What a year this week has been! I’m going to try to run through some of the exciting developments.

Beto O’Rourke has won the Democratic primary in Texas and will now face Ted Cruz DXuu3JXXkAAAqwn.jpgin the election. While generally people think it’s still a long shot for a Democrat to win in Texas, we have seen some surprise elections and flips since Dump lost the popular vote. Democrats have flipped deep red seats which Dump won by  40 points. So who knows what will happen in November. We do know that Cruz immediately began blasting O’Rourke. Cruz’ first shot was a radio ad which said: “If you are going to run in Texas, you can’t be a liberal man. I remember reading stories, liberal Robert wanted to fit in. So he changed his name to Beto and hid it with a grin.” Ok fine, Rafael “Ted” Cruz. What’s your excuse for changing your name? When confronted with the hypocrisy, Rafael Cruz gave the most predictable answer you can imagine from a Republican today: “Satire! LOL!” Everybody’s a goddamned comedian.

Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress, is suing Donald Dump.

“Despite Mr. Trump’s failure to sign the Hush Agreement, Mr. Cohen proceeded to cause $130,000.00 to be wired to the trust account of Ms. Clifford’s attorney. He did so even though there was no legal agreement and thus no written nondisclosure agreement whereby Ms. Clifford was restricted from disclosing the truth about Mr. Trump,” the document states.

In her lawsuit Daniels also says that she has photographs and/or text messages from Donald Trump… which, lord help us, means there are dick pics. Which also is one step 180306203120-trump-stormy-daniels-split-medium-plus-169.jpgcloser to a pee tape. Sarah Huckleberry Sanders, when questioned about all this, said that there was no hush agreement, but that Ms. Daniels is in violation of one. Or something to that effect. Republicans in Congress are livid about all this and are demanding Trump resign. LOL, satire! I’m a comedian too. Nobody in the GOP cares. It’s almost as if decades of hunting and complaining about Bill Clinton cheating on his wife wasn’t a real moral outrage on their part. Because they are just fine with candidate Trump paying hush money to a porn actress a month before the election and demanding she sign a hush agreement after having an affair with her while his wife was pregnant. Perfectly normal, peak Trump-age.

Hope Hicks, the mute former White House Communications Director, told the House Intelligence Committee that her private email account was hacked. So, Hope Hicks was using a private email account. LOL, she’s a comedian too! And it was hacked. I’m just gonna leave it at that.

And finally, the New York Times, that putrid rotting corpse of the old grey lady, just demonstrated why it’s an irredeemable rag. They just promoted Patrick D. Healy to bepatrickhealynyt.jpeg.256x256_q100_crop-smart.jpg their Politics Editor. Healy is one of their leading Clinton Derangement Syndrome carriers. Healy is the one who came up with the “Clinton cackle” line to describe HRC’s laugh. Healy is the one who wrote their massive 2,000 word investigation into the how the Clintons spend their time together as a couple, going as far as suggesting that Bill was still having affairs. Healy’s writing history with the paper, documented here, is full of attacks on both Clintons and softness on Trump. It is further proof that the Times’ coverage of 2018 and 2020 is going to be just as catastrophic as their coverage of 2016 was. Brace for impact.

In light of You-Know-Who’s election to the White House we have witnessed an unprecedented increase in Democrats registering to run for office. This is true particularly of women. Enraged by how Dump and the media treated Hillary Clinton, women are ready to fight back. One of the brightest stars of those already running was Kim Weaver for Iowa 4th Congressional District. That’s the seat currently held by one of the most vile people in America, racist/misogynistic/homophobic scum-pig Steve King. The district covers 39 counties, including Ames, Fort Dodge and Sioux City. Weaver’s campaign was getting a lot of attention on social media. Then suddenly, on June 3rd, Weaver dropped out of the race. This was a surprising development. But Weaver’s announcement was more shocking still.

Over the last several weeks, I have been evaluating personal circumstances along with the political climate regarding this campaign. After much deliberation, I have determined that the best decision for me is to withdraw my candidacy for the U.S. House race in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.

One consideration has been raised again by recent events at my home. Beginning during my 2016 campaign, I have received very alarming acts of intimidation, including death threats. While some may say enduring threats are just a part of running for office, my personal safety has increasingly become a concern.

But there is actually more to Weaver dropping out of the campaign than death threats. As reported by Shareblue writer Matthew Chapman on Twitter, Weaver also revealed that Republicans conspired to punish her as a civil servant. Weaver works at the Iowa Office of Long-Term Care Ombudsman, an agency that investigates problems in nursing homes. This year the Iowa General Assembly cut funding to this agency. Weaver’s supervisor relayed a message to her from a state legislator that the cuts were intended to punish her for challenging King. This placed the agency and its other employees in danger.

The Republican has become the mob, but without an honor code. They feel untouchable. And let’s face it, they have been. McConnell has bullied Democrats into obedience for 8 years. As we learn more and more about Russian hacking of our elections (the newest documents leaked to The Intercept raise the stakes significantly… I won’t link to The Intercept just like I won’t link to Breitbart), but as we learn more and more about how much Russia did to steal the election for Trump, we must remember that one of the things that stopped Obama from announcing what they already knew in the summer of 2016 was Mitch McConnell telling him to keep his mouth shut. And Obama kept his mouth shut. This is the sort of behavior that inspires Iowa legislature to punish anyone having the gall to run against Steve fucking King. When and how will this stop?

As a side note, after Weaver announced she was leaving the race, she received a phone call from Hillary Clinton. Weaver tweeted: “She was very sweet and wanted me to know she was thinking about me.”

On an unrelated note, Newsweek reports that last year Bernie Sanders made $1,000,000.  We already know he owns 3 homes and Jane Sanders is under FBI investigation for shenanigans at Burlington College. These are the socialists from Vermont who were 2016 election’s original sin. I don’t think any of us have problems with Bernie making money. We just have a problem with Sanders being hypocrite who doesn’t want anyone else to make money.

Do you know who else makes money – as a special speaker? Cornell West. That paragon 1000wof… I don’t even know. What the hell is he a paragon of? He certainly thought Hillary was corrupt for giving speeches and he didn’t want Obama making any money speaking post-White House either. And here’s Dr. West, making money…speaking.  West earned $25,000 to speak at Coastal Carolina University. One might argue that $25,000 pales in comparison to what Clinton and Obama earned. But one would also argue that Dr. West is a far less significant figure than either Clinton or Obama. And the real kicker to West’s speaking fees is…

The records obtained by the newspaper revealed something about CCU’s priciest orator: West did not want the public to know how much he was paid for his Sept. 16 keynote address.

The speaking contract included a confidentiality clause.

And there you have it folks. The honorable Bernie Sanders and Dr. Cornell West, mere mortals who like new things; just like everyone else after all.

After the May 22nd attack on young women leaving Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester, Grande vowed to hold a benefit concert for the families impacted by the attack. On June 4th she did (before the concert she visited survivors of the blast in hospitals.) She managed to convince several of her friends who were available to sing with her. Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Pharrell Williams, and others. There was a roughness to the concert, obviously not a lot of rehearsal took place. But that made it all the more real. Here Grande sings with Miley Cyrus a cover of Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over.”

morning joe meeka lies

 Good afternoon Widdershins!

I think we’ve all come to the conclusion that watching Morning schmoe has become an exercise…not so much in futility but more of an arm exercise because the show has become something that makes you want to throw things at your teevee.

Not being satisfied with deliberately mouthing untruths about Hillary Clinton’s email server, they have now gone to the point where they will purposefully edit out anything that may sound favorable to Hillary.

Recently Washington Post columnist David Ignatius was on the show and attempted to provide, not so much a defense of Clinton’s actions, but rather an explanation that no, she did not do anything wrong or criminal, and in his WaPo column he explained (but apparently not clearly enough to #socklessdeadintern and #drunkmika) that there was no similarity to the situation with David Petraeus’ situation.

Potential criminal violations arise when officials knowingly disseminate documents marked as classified to unauthorized officials or on unclassified systems, or otherwise misuse classified materials. That happened in two cases involving former CIA directors that are cited as parallels for the Clinton e-mail issue, but are quite different. John Deutch was pardoned in 2001 for using an unsecured CIA computer at his home to improperly access classified material; he reportedly had been prepared to plead guilty to a misdemeanor. David Petraeus pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in April for “knowingly” removing classified documents from authorized locations and retaining them at “unauthorized locations.” Neither case fits the fact pattern with the Clinton e-mails.

But going back to my first item, when Ignatius was on the show, in the initial segment Ignatius said:

“As I talked to a half dozen of lawyers who do nothing but this kind of work, they said they couldn’t remember a case like this, where people informally and inadvertently draw classified information into their phone conversations or their unclassified server conversations, where there had been a prosecution.
(Bolding in the original C&L article)

Now, #socklessdeadintern wasn’t happy with this so he had to add his own little twists and turns:

JOE SCARBOROUGH: David, so you have over the past week or two turned a bit in some of your editorial, in some of your op-eds, you’ve said you would rather hear Hillary’s policy positions than more talk about the servers, you said you don’t think she faces any criminal prosecution. You haven’t exactly said nothing is here, move along, move along, but you’ve certainly —

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Getting tired of it, which is what they’re hoping.
(thatagirl #drunkmika!) -my comment

SCARBOROUGH: — Yeah, I mean aren’t you playing into what the Clinton sort of scandal response team wants, which is so much stuff comes at you that at some point you just say, “Come on, let’s just move on.”

DAVID IGNATIUS: Joe, I’ve tried to respond as a journalist but in particular I’ve tried to look at what is a real prosecutable offense here. There are violations clearly both of administrative procedure and probably technically of law and how classified information was handled. As I talked to a half dozen of lawyers who do nothing but this kind of work, they said they couldn’t remember a case like this, where people informally and inadvertently draw classified information into their phone conversations or their unclassified server conversations, where there had been a prosecution.

But #sockless…still not happy, has to keep harping on his preconceived ideas.

SCARBOROUGH: But this isn’t happenstance. This is a very calculated move to say if you want to communicate with the Secretary of State, as Edwards Snowden said, whether you are a foreign diplomat or a spy chief from another country or a leader of another country, which they all did, you’ve got to come to this unsecured server, whether it is in Colorado or wherever it is, and there is a standard in the U.S. Code under prosecutions for this sort of thing which is gross negligence. It’s not a know or should have known –
(Italics mine.  Now neither lawyerJoe or (former) congresscritterJoe cited what title and part of the U.S. Code Hillary was violating.)

So Ignatius, trying to be as patient as possible I guess, explained it a bit more s-l-o-w-l-y and thoroughly for #sockless:

This issue comes up surprisingly often because there is an administrative problem where people do these things and their security officers summon them and warn them and issue reprimands and it goes in their file and it’s a serious personnel administrative problem. My only point is I couldn’t find a case where this kind of activity had been prosecuted and that’s just worth noting as we assemble our Clinton e-mail – and more thing, Joe, legally there is no difference between her using her private server and if she’d used, which is also not a classified system. The idea that, oh this would have been fine if she used, not legally, no difference.

And here is the edited version that they re-aired later in the program, leaving out that key part.

As Peter Daou and Tom Watson said over at HillaryMen, “How Low Can Morning Joe Go?”

As Hillary Clinton attempts to make history as America’s first woman president, Morning Joe has emerged as the global headquarters of the He-Man Hillary Haters Club, with Scarborough and co-host Mika Brzezinski presiding over a daily boys club that relentlessly attacks Hillary’s candidacy, her accomplishments, her very humanity. It is an ugly and self-righteous spectacle, rife with misleading allegations, insinuations and false indignation. Searching for words to describe Morning Joe’s particular brand of anti-Hillary invective, we’ve described it as “an unhealthy and unhinged combination of envy, awe, muted rage and dripping disdain.”

And #socklessdeadintern has never been one to back off, even if it comes to bullying his own guests.

and perhaps on a previous show that’s why Jeremy Peters did this:

Also, if you are curious about how we came up with #deadintern for schmoe, then you can go here and read about it.   Prolix, catching something in an article about schmoe’s tendency to go sockless thought it was a good idea to add that to the hashtag.  Works for me.

But back to that article:

Just the facts: Scarborough got a divorce. Then he suddenly resigned from Congress, just six months after re-election. (Invoked old fallback excuse of wanting to “spend more time” with children.) Then he suddenly resigned as publisher of the Independent Florida Sun. Then, just as suddenly, Lori Klausutis, 28-year-old staffer to Scarborough, was found dead in Scarborough’s district office in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Date was July 20, 2001. Cause of death: Blow to the head. Conclusion: Heart condition caused her to collapse, fall, hit head on a desk, and die. Story barely a blip on the radar. Lots of people left with lots of questions.

Lotsa good stuff at that link and some other links on that site.

And lastly, if you think I’m being sexist or misogynistic about #drunkmika, I’m not.  As they say on the teevee, let’s roll the tape.

Okay, this is a completely open thread so feel free to take it wherever you wish.

They did WHAT??

Ewww they did WHAT?

Good afternoon Widdershins.  This is going to be a quick post.  A friend of mine had to make a very unanticipated trip to the hospital  Tues. evening and I got to take him since he does not have a car.  He was recently diagnosed as diabetic and has had some issues with developing sores that rapidly become infected.  That was his situation so he was referred to a surgeon and he thought they would just open up and lance the place and he’s be back home.  The doctor instead told him that he, the doc, would rather do it in the hospital so he was to go to the emergency room and get admitted that way.  Now I was not supposed to be the driver to the hospital but rather be the pick up guy.  I ended up staying with him until they got ready to take him upstairs and got back somewhat late.  So, let’s take it from there.

We all know that Michael Sam was a college football player and is now with an NFL team, the St. Louis Rams.  However, you may or may not know about his college football career and the awards he won.

Sam was named a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Associated Press, Sporting News, the American Football Coaches Association, and the Football Writers Association of America] He was also named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, the Hendricks Award, and the Lombardi Award.[2][13] Missouri played in the 2014 Cotton Bowl Classic, in which Sam forced a fumble that was returned for a touchdown, securing Missouri’s victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

And we know that after his last college game, Michael Sam came out as a gay athlete.  Then came the NFL draft and michael-sam-nfl-draft-kiss-vito-cammisanoMichael got drafted in the 7th round with the 249th (I believe) pick of the draft.  So anyway Michael gets the call that he’s been selected and much like many another athlete who has maybe won the pot of gold, he reached out to his partner and kissed him.  It was carried live on ESPN and that’s when the proverbial fecal matter hit the fan.

We’ve had two more states strike down unconstitutional laws banning same sex marriages with Oregon and now Pennsylvania joining the move.  That makes 19 states, including D.C. where same-sex marriage is or will be legal.  But apparently not same-sex kissing.  Duh!

HuffPo conducted a poll asking Americans how they felt about gay athletes playing for their favorite sporting team.

According to the new poll, 60 percent of Americans said they would approve of their favorite sports team signing an openly gay player, while 20 percent said they would disapprove. Among NFL fans in particular, 65 percent said they would approve and 21 percent said they would disapprove.

Majorities of Democrats (80 percent) and independents (56 percent), as well as a plurality of Republicans (42 percent), said they’re ready to cheer on their teams with openly gay players.

But then there seems to be a line drawn.  Gay boy:  you can play for a professional sports team.  Gay boy (or girl) you may not kiss your partner in public and where we can see it.

But although most Americans approve of gay players in theory, many are less comfortable with the reality. Male athletes kissing their wives or girlfriends is routine territory for networks covering victory and other sporting celebrations, but coverage of Sam’s kissing his boyfriend after he was drafted has generated controversy. Forty-seven percent in the new poll said it was “inappropriate” for networks to show the kiss, while only 36 percent said it was “appropriate.” Seventeen percent said they weren’t sure.

The poll found an ideological divide over the celebratory kiss. Democrats tended to say it was appropriate to show (53 percent to 32 percent), but a plurality of independents (45 percent to 36 percent) and a large majority of Republicans (69 percent to 16 percent) said it was inappropriate.

The survey likewise found a major generational divide. Americans under age 30 had no problem with coverage of the kiss, by a 55 percent to 29 percent margin. Those between ages 30 and 44 were evenly divided: 40 percent said it was appropriate; 39 percent said it was inappropriate. And a majority of older Americans said it was inappropriate, including 52 percent of those between ages 45 and 64, and 69 percent of those 65 and older.

I remember a saying from “my day”,  “yeah it’s okay to be queer but just don’t flaunt it.”.  Now Michael’s boyfriend Vito michael sam boyfriendis an attractive young man and even has himself a bit of a six-pack going there on his skinny self.  Now I’m old enough to remember when interracial dating and marriage (even after the Loving decision) was looked at with a raised eyebrow.  So hell, I’m kinda surprised no one made a comment about Sam having a white boyfriend.

Now one of the funniest things I’ve seen about “the kiss” was from the talking ladies on a local Dallas tv show trying to emulate The View.  They had one woman on the show, Amy Kushnir who must be their  local Betty Bowers, America’s best christian.  She got into a huff over “the kiss” and when her cohorts kind of chastised her about it, she walked off the show.  She also made a comment along the lines of  “they don’t show that with football players and their wives or girlfriends” -see pics below (I read that Fox News called her and she was supposed to go on some show there – I didn’t see it.)  But Anderson Cooper had her on his Ridiculist and it was humorous to watch.  Sorry, this won’t embed.

So to sum up:  this is okay and this:

But this one:  Not so much.       michael-sam-nfl-draft-kiss-vito-cammisano

What Are They Smoking?

What Are They Smoking?

You can’t make this stuff up. Apparently, some GOP operative ran up $1946.25 in expenses for “meals”at “Voyeur Hollywood”, a club featuring lesbian bondage-type acts. If that wasn’t good enough, the RNC reimbursed him, then actually filed the expensed item with others on an FEC report. Whoo-hoo! The party of family values/fiscal conservatism strikes again.

If that wasn’t enough, there are other expenses that are simply laughable. Thousands upon thousands of dollars have been billed for private jets, five star hotels, and that ridiculous convention in Hawaii. Take that, individual RNC contributors! Those $25.00 and $50.00 contributions that you scrimped and saved up to grease the party wheels is being put to good use – good times for them, anyhow.

Michael Steele has again come under fire for this, but I have to wonder what it will take to offload him. Remember when he was charging for his speech at Republican fundraisers? If that didn’t get him fired, as his job is to raise funds for the RNC, you have to wonder what will. Remember when he stood on teevee and said something to the effect that if they didn’t like the way he did things, they could fire him? I still wonder why the RNC didn’t take him up on that deathless statement.

The RPF, in the State Which Must Not Be Named, has had its own share of troubles. Marco Rubio, Jim DeMint’s protégé and Tea Party darling, has yet to completely explain his “fund raising” expenses of haircuts, wine, auto repairs, and six airline roundtrip tickets for his wife. Where is the outrage for these fiscal f**ckups, folks? Did they have to do all of these things in order to fight the fascist Democrats and keep Wal-Mart safe from socialism?
