It seems that 99.9% of all political sex offenders are always Republicans, but the .01% of Democrats all seem to come from New York! I’m annoyed, pissed off and disappointed at how these New York Democratic men have been conducting themselves over the past several years. Governor Cuomo is only the latest example of Manhattan Men Behaving Badly (and frankly, I want him to wait out the investigation because something smells Al Franken-y about this one). Is there something in the water?!

2008 – Governor Eliot Spitzer, a rock star of the Party and seemingly headed for higher office, was caught using prostitutes – and didn’t hide the money trail so well either.

The investigation of Spitzer was initiated after North Fork Bank[1] reported suspicious transactions to the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network as required by the Bank Secrecy Act, which was enhanced by Patriot Act provisions, enacted to combat terrorist activity such as money laundering.[2] Spitzer had at least seven liaisons with prostitutes from the agency over six months, and paid more than $15,000 for their services. Federal agents had him under surveillance twice in 2008.[3][4][5] According to published reports, investigators believe Spitzer paid up to $80,000 for prostitutes over a period of several years – first while he was attorney general, and later as governor.[6][7][8] Governor Spitzer, referred to as “Client 9” in an affidavit filed in US Federal Court,[9] arranged to meet at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington on February 13, 2008 with a prostitute named “Kristen”. “Kristen” was later identified as 22-year-old Ashley Dupré.[10][11] She intended to travel from New York City for the planned tryst and Spitzer agreed in advance that he “would be paying for everything—train tickets, cab fare from the hotel and back, mini-bar or room service, travel time and hotel”.[12] After the meeting on February 13, 2008, Spitzer paid her $4,300 in cash.[13] The payment included $1,100 as a deposit with the agency toward future services.[14]

2011 – Next there was Democrat Anthony Weiner, an up-and-coming seven-term New York Representative whom MadamaB saw speak at a single-payer advocacy group meeting (he was terrific) – but alas, he couldn’t keep it in his pants either, and ended up several years later disgraced, divorced from Hillary’s BFF Huma Abedin, and registered as a sex offender. WTAF!

2018 – Now this one was ugly and mind-boggling. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (yes I voted for him!) was a long-time favorite in the Empire State. He had a history of advocacy for liberal causes, including the cause of protecting women from harassment and abuse.

In its first year in office, the Trump administration sought to scrap numerous Obama-era environmental regulations which Trump had often referred to as an impediment to business.[40] Saying, “Over and over again, the Trump administration has put the profits of multinational polluters over the health and well-being of everyday Americans,” Schneiderman filed over 50 lawsuits opposing Trump’s environmental revisions.[41]
In February 2018, Schneiderman brought a civil rights lawsuit against The Weinstein Company, alleging the company “repeatedly broke New York law by failing to protect its employees from pervasive sexual harassment, intimidation, and discrimination”. The lawsuit delayed the sale of The Weinstein Company with the Attorney General adding, “Any sale of the Weinstein Company must ensure that victims will be compensated.”[42][43]

When it came out that four women had accused Schneiderman of physical and emotional abuse, I really couldn’t believe it, but the women were credible and it was clear he had to resign.

Now in case you were noticing that all these men are Jewish, take heart! There’s a Christian on this list as well.

2021 – New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo is caught up in yet another cosmic clusterf*ck. Is he corrupt and a sexual harasser? Is he the victim of a setup a la Al Franken? I don’t know, but frankly, I’m tired of hearing about all this sh*t from New York Democratic men.

Maybe try electing a woman now and then, eh Noo Yawk?

Tawk amongst yerselves!

There are so many ways to look at Drumpf’s lack of fitness for the job of POTUS. To name a few:

  1. His abuse of the office of President for his and his cabal’s personal gain, for which the Democrats have opened an impeachment investigation.
  2. His indebtedness to hostile foreign countries like Russia, China, North Korea and Saudi Arabia.
  3. His well-documented history of sexual assault and rape, including a long-time association with pedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
  4. His corruption of the Senate, the Justice Department and the Supreme Court.
  5. His racism, which infects and contaminates all his foreign and domestic policy decisions.

These are all ample reasons to declare that gob of orange goo unfit for office. But there’s one reason I don’t notice a lot of punditry talking about: he’s too emotional to be President.

It often strikes me how the language used to describe the Mango Moron is so very different from the language used to describe any other President. Here are just a few examples from the past few days.

Went rogue

Panic

Erratic, abnormal, bizarre, unhinged, off the rails

Toddler, temper tantrum

Angry, in a panic

Crazy

Meltdowns

This is not how any leader should act, much less the leader of the free world. Yet where are the judgments being passed on his lack of fitness for being President because of his overabundance of emotion? Where are covers like this?

Where’s all the condemnation of his endless tweeting about his own imaginary genius and “great and unmatched wisdom?” Why has the media ignored his acting like an insane person every day, in public? Why aren’t they constantly demanding his resignation?

My theory is that Drumpf is allowed to be emotionally unfit for office because the media doesn’t take him seriously as President. They think of him as a clown and an entertainer, so they just give him a pass on everything.

As we’ve seen, however, IQ45 is more than happy to exercise the powers, real and imagined, of the President of the United States. As unfit and clownish as he is, he really in charge of the military. He really has the nuclear codes. He really can make horrible deals with foreign countries that deeply damage our economy. He really can lift sanctions on Russia and expose allies, like Ukraine and Syrian Kurds, to death at the hands of his foreign masters.

The media had better get its sh*t together, and soon. I don’t think we’re going to make it past 2020 with this lunatic at the helm.

He’s just too emotional.

This is an open thread.

GOOD WEEKEND WIDDERSHINS!

Not having Prolix writing his fantastic, informing and erudite Fridays posts anymore has played havoc with our posting schedule, but I know we all understand.  We just miss his posts.  Since DYB normally writes his posts for Wednesday I’ll now try to have mine ready for Saturday.  Naturally none of this is guaranteed.

During this past tumultuous week I was watching one of the news shows someplace and saw a mention of the time when the Ku Klux Klan had a mindbogglingly huge march in our nation’s capital.  In fact there were two such marches, and from what I could gather they were in 1925 and 1928.

It appears that back then the guys (and kids and gals) didn’t feel the need to hide their faces.  I suppose that came about in later years.

From the Washington Post:

The Ku Klux Klan was at the height of its popularity when more than 30,000 members — racists and anti-Semites marching 22 abreast and 14 rows deep – paraded down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington on Aug. 8, 1925.

“White-robed Klan cheered on march in nation’s capital,” read the front-page headline in The Washington Post the next day.

The Washington Post almost waxed rhapsodic over the march in D.C. which was still segregated at the time.

Nearly a century ago, the Klan was welcomed to segregated Washington by its white residents, as the breathless coverage in The Post demonstrated.

“Phantom-like hosts of the Ku Klux Klan spread their white robe over the most historic thoroughfare yesterday in one of the greatest demonstrations this city has ever known,” read The Post’s account.

“the Ku Klux Klan booked 18 trains for their march and rally. Hotels filled with the hooded men. Lunch stands and tobacco shops quickly sold out. The Klan even brought their own ambulances to escort those felled by the August heat.”

Sounds like business was good for the city!

The Kluxers marched for over three hours and ended at the Washington Monument where speeches were supposed to be given.  The event got rained out.

The evening of the next day the Klan had a gathering at Arlington Park horse grounds and lit up a huge 80 foot cross.

More from the Post article:

Many of the hooded marchers showed their faces — a rather telling indication that the group, responsible for lynchings and other acts of terror, could operate with impunity. At the time, the Klan boasted a national dues-paying membership of nearly 5 million men and 500,000 women. The shedding of the masks was a subject of internal debate for the group, a move that some felt would grant their organization added legitimacy and respectability. (bolding mine)

[snip]

“You had many members of the KKK who were politicians — senators, congressmen, statehouse representatives,” said Kendi, “and that only encouraged the members to appear publicly without their hoods.”

Indeed, the 1924 Democratic convention was known as “the Klanbake,” because the party by a razor-thin margin voted against an anti-Klan plank in its platform.

OMG – the Klanbake!

All of this made me kind of curious so I went out looking for images of those marches and downloaded a bunch of them.  I’ve created a slideshow of them for you to view some of these images.  I also got a pic of the newspaper report of tRump’s dad Fred being arrested.

I won’t say I hope you enjoy viewing these images but I hope you consider it as something that happened before and in these times, something similar could happen again. Click the middle button to start the slideshow.

NYHQ1996-0959

Over the weekend I edited a short fundraising video for organizations that help victims of human trafficking. These are all religious institutions and the women interviewed were all nuns. One from NYC, one from London, and one from Mombasa, Kenya.

Human trafficking is the 2nd largest crime industry in the world, only behind drug trafficking. It generates hundreds of billions of dollars in profit – at the expense of human lives. And it is also the fastest growing “industry” in the world today. In 2012 it was estimated that as many as 20.9 million people around the world were victims of human trafficking. Imagine what those numbers are in 2017. Human trafficking includes sexual exploitation (including sexual slavery), forced labor, organ harvesting. The International Labour Organization (a United Nations agency) last compiled their statistics in 2012. Some excerpts:

90% are forced to labor for private economies or corporations

22% are in forced sexual exploitation

55% are women and girls & 45% are men and boys

26% are under the age of 18

Sister Jane Kimathi, from Mombasa, speaks of victims as young as 4 years old, forced into prostitution. Many, she says, come to their safe houses unable to speak because of the trauma. Some stay with the Sisters for as long as two years, as they try to rehabilitate them and find new homes. While their order is Catholic, they welcome all victims and their prayer room is nondenominational. She mentioned that Mombasa is a popular tourist destination. But the “tourist destination” designation is people who come there specifically searching for young children to abuse. Because of the many conflicts in Africa, the number of refugees spikes the numbers of slaves. They are people looking for ways to support their families. Nobody is looking for glamour or prestige in the sex trade, Sister Kimathi says. “It’s poverty and desperation.” Some of the children were sold by their parents into slavery. Some are orphans and some are runaways who were promised happiness by relatives, who then exploited them.

It’s a story the Sister from New York, Joan Dawber, picks up on. Sister Joan runs safe houses in Queens. She described one woman’s story: She came to New York to be a student, sponsored byp1562069350-3 an extended family. When she arrived, the family forced her to become their slave. She never attended school. She was forced to take care of the family, including raising their young children. She was forced to eat off the floor. Not just having her plate on the floor, she didn’t have a plate. Whatever food she was allowed to eat was put on the floor. If she was hungry and snuck any food out of the fridge, she was punished. She was her family’s slave in Queens, NY for five years. Her salvation came in the form of a neighbor who suspected something odd based on the young woman’s behavior in public. She tried to speak to her repeatedly, ask her how she is, only to have the young woman run away. Eventually the neighbor gave the woman a cell phone with pre-programmed numbers for the police and safe shelters. The young woman finally found courage to escape, using the cell phone to call for help. She has since finished school and lives in New York.

Sister Dawber points out that human trafficking exists in every state of the USA. It is not an issue that only happens out there somewhere. It exists all around us. It could be the waitress in a restaurant, or a manicurist at the nail salon. They could be of any age and any race. It can be almost impossible to know that this person ringing up our groceries is indentured to someone.

Sister Lynda Dearlove runs a safe house in London. Their organization primarily helps prostitutes. The interesting thing is that their mission isn’t strictly to “rescue” the women from prostitution. It is to offer them a safe home and counseling when in need. Many only come to sister-lynda-dearlovespend the night, take a shower and eat. Some then return to the streets. The Sisters there never force anyone to stay. Many women have been coming to them for years for a night or two of peace. The Sisters hope that by offering women a shelter and offering them counseling they can help them enable themselves. Sister Dearlove passionately says that the can not force anyone to do anything. The best they can do is show the women that there is hope and they need to find it for themselves. Maybe not today, but possibly tomorrow. “They are valued and they are loved, and if anything happens to them we want them to know that we will miss them.” She says that people blame women for becoming prostitutes and that it is one of the biggest challenges we as a society face: The need to understand that if any of these women choose prostitution it is only because they are fleeing abuse, or drugs, or so many other possible traumas. Many are trying to support families and stay alive. They must never be judged or condemned, she says. They must be offered hope.

Note: Sister Dearlove was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire in 2010.

This is an open thread. What’s on your mind fellow Widdershins?

A murderer and an abuser walk into a locker room…

Many activists in the field of domestic violence feel that the qualifier “domestic” is one thing that helps enable its persistence. If we were just to call it “violence” when one partner physically assaults the other, would we see these heinous acts as more serious, more criminal?

What if the two didn’t know each other? Would the subtext of “She was asking for it” still be there?

Think about it. What if you saw that infamous Ray Rice video on your local news station, and it was presented this way:

“This horrifying video of a man beating a woman unconscious in an elevator was sent to the police and released to Eyewitness News in the hopes of identifying the criminal. Please call 311 if you have any information about who this person is.”

After that story, wouldn’t you be hoping to next see that man in handcuffs, doing the perp walk, instead of, say, at a high school football game in New Rochelle?

Ray Rice made his first public appearance with his family Saturday since being released by the Ravens and indefinitely suspended from the NFL. Rice, along with his wife Janay and daughter Rayven, returned to his hometown of New Rochelle, New York to watch his old high school team play. Rice’s middle school in New Rochelle removed Rice’s framed jersey from the gymnasium, which drew a mixed reaction from students.

See, right there. Removing the jersey “drew a mixed reaction from students.” The man beat the sh*t out of his wife! The very LEAST he deserves is to have his f*cking jersey removed from the middle school he attended! And sorry, no, the idea that Ray Rice hit his wife like this only once, is about as credible as the idea that Chatblu and Fredster will stop watching college football and take up the harp instead. (Sorry guys, couldn’t resist. :-))

Oh, but it gets worse. MUCH worse.

New Rochelle [high school] head coach Lou DiRenzo said that the team stands behind Rice in a statement to the media at halftime.

Via LoHud.com:

“The New Rochelle football program is a very strong program, and once you’re a member of that program, you’re a member of that program for life. Ray is a part of our family and a part of this program, and that’s why I’m very happy that he’s here today. He made a mistake — and he made a very terrible mistake — but I know the character of the man, and he will rise from this. The mistake that he made will be erased by the good deeds that he will continue to do.”

If you saw that video presented in the way discussed above….would you say he “made a very terrible mistake?” Or would you want him locked up, and the key thrown into the Marianas Trench?
