The Widdershins

Lazy Weekend: Cock and Bullshit

Posted on: May 22, 2021

Happy Weekend Widdershins!

Well here we are, another day, more bullshit. (Pardon my French.) Two Politico articles this past week were all about how VP Kamala Harris was too black and not Asian enough and then how furious the Bidens were with her a year ago when she called out Biden’s crime bill at one of the debates. I suppose the palace gossip of the second story is what it is, but the topic of the first is beyond offensive. To dictate to a biracial woman that she’s not biracial enough is just…something, isn’t it? Worth noting the woman who wrote that story threw a going-away party for Sarah Huckabee Sanders when she retired from being Trump’s chief liar. Then the Associated Press fired a young journalist who in college belonged to a Palestinian rights group after right-wingers like Ben Shapiro organized a campaign to get her fired. (Cancel culture!) The woman who runs the AP and ok’ed the decision to fire this young reporter because of a group she belonged to in college is about to become the executive editor of the Washington Post. This type of knee-jerk reaction to pressure from right-wingers does not bode well for the future of WaPo. (The blowback on social media about this decision from many journalists has been quite strong.) But CNN did finally fire Rick Santorum, 3 weeks after he delivered one of his more racist speeches and considering how racist he is, that’s quite something. Oh and let’s not forget the CDC advised people not to get intimate with chickens, which naturally brought out Republicans’ desire to own the libs by getting Biblical with fowl. They once claimed gay marriage would lead to bestiality, but so far they’re the ones defending their right to make out with their chickens.

Oh and btw, speaking of Rick Santorum, did I ever share my Rick Santorum story with you? A couple of years ago I was walking my dog late at night. A man was walking towards us on 34th St in Manhattan, clearly headed towards Hudson Yards. A woman, dressed in high heels and a revealing outfit, was headed in the opposite direction. Our paths converged. The man looked at the woman most suggestively as she passed; looked her up and down. Then looked at me with a knowing smirk and winked. That man was Rick Santorum.

This is an open thread!

PJ, to answer your question on the previous thread, I do believe Trey Gowdy is a regular guest on various Fox News shows.

Oh and if you care about the “Kamala Harris isn’t Asian enough” story…

Hmm. Given that Repubs think they’re Humpty Dumpty and they own the words and can make them into anything they want (often the opposite of what they mean, eg see “patriot,” “freedom”) maybe they really meant “wright”? As in wheelwright, wainwright, playwright? 😆

With the Dump confined to his gilded cage, crashing paying guests’ dinner parties, the amount of revolting garbage is much reduced. But now in quick succession I’d barely done averting my eyes from the crap about Harris, when along comes Greene Marg, bemoaning whatever non-problem in her life (mask-wearing?) by comparing it to the concentration camps. Next she’ll be comparing a spoon to a sewage spill. Where is cancel culture when we need it?

@5 quixote>

Mags Greene. I like that nic because of the reference to gun magazines and her own bodily “guns”. She’s got them. I won’t deny it. She’s a stud.

Her mind is fucked, of course. And her soul. But her body looks pretty damn good. Put her next to fat, potbelly Ted Cruz (or his master, Lumpy), she looks pretty damn good.

But yuck. On the whole mess.

OMG

DYB, it’s so great to see you! @1, yeah, I’m not surprised. All rats eventually find their sewer, you know?

Whoa on Rick S! OMG. Frothy in person? No one deserves that. I feel so bad for you. I have bad people around me (for real), but no one that bad.

Someone I follow on Twitter liked this song which was Ukraine’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest going on today. Says it’s an old Slavic song for arrival of spring with lyrics on the beginning of Earth’s recovery for Chernobyl. I like the song.

DYB, thanks for the new thread and good to see you.
Love the cartoon, Tweety is in Hillary’s place.

Thanks for the video song Luna, I hope the band isn’t anywhere near Chernobyl. That vehicle looks like it is out of Mad Max.

Annie, are you okay? I hope so.

Great post, D. Figures about Rick Santorum. Religious ones are the worst.

@2, ha! It figures. Re: Trey Gowdy, my favorite pic of him is the one where Hillary is happily greeting a friend after the 11 hour imbroglio and TG is seen slinking past with a defeated look on his sweat drenched face.

PJ, you really think mtg looks good? I find her awkwardly proportioned myself. Twitter went berserk over her comment comparing mask wearing to the holocaust.

Great SNL clip. Sorry it’s the end of their season until Thanksgiving. They were one of the things that made me laugh through the ugly Dump days.

I’m with Annie on Greene Marg. I have a hard time reading what’s being said about her because I keep trying to figure out pics of her. She’s an Uncanny Valley denizen, like Zuckerberg and Kelly Anne Conway. Wait. Her face is too big. No it’s too small. No, her forehead is too small for that thuggy jaw. Her shoulders are weird. Padding? No, she’s in something sleeveless. And this goes on and on until I remember that life is too short to worry about Mags.

Shadow, I’m doing good, thanks! How are you and your son?

MB, re last post: I also chose to not have a traditional wedding with a big white dress and veil and promising to “obey”. We were married in Bermuda and our friends gave us a party when we got home. It was fun getting married in another country. We had to arrange it in advance, fill out applications and mail them, and also they did that funny British custom of “posting the banns” in their newspaper (announcing we were getting married, didi anyone know of a reason why we shouldn’t). We were married by the Registrar General of Bermuda, a lovely black woman which we thought was cool, being married by a woman. It was non-religious and no mention of “obeying.” We did one traditional thing there which was leaving the parliament bldg in a horse drawn open carriage. The driver drove around the tiny town (Hamilton) and people everywhere were waving and shouting congratulations to us. (Excuse if I’ve already told this story. Our anniversary was last week & hubs made me bring out the photo album I made of it, so its still fresh in my head.)

Q, on twitter, people are comparing her to Iggy Pop.

I heard that Kate McKinnon is leaving SNL. I hope she gets to do something great.

If true, this is good news.

You did it right too, Annie! Just like MB. Good for you! and great to see you.

I think you and quixote are right about Mags. Now I’m grossed out (as I should be) and just want her to go away.

Annie @19, oh no…she is my favorite. No one is as good at playing multiple characters as she is.

Glad to hear you are feeling better, Annie. My son and I are doing well, thanks.

Okay, I guess I am the only one so far that had a long vail. I didn’t get married in a church with any specific religion, we got married in the Glass Church in southern Calif. Some man that goes with the church did the honors. None of that, ‘obey’ stuff for me either…this was in the seventies and women’s lib was a big issue then.

Here’s a picture of the church, it’s beautiful. https://www.wayfarerschapel.org/

I designed my dress and vail, and my mom was a top shelf seamstress, (as a hobby and her passion), and made it all for me. She took it to the next level and hand beaded the vail and some of the dress. I was so very lucky to have such a wonderful mom, and my dad was great too.

@23, I know where that is–that’s a beautiful spot. There are lots of pretty places in the Santa Monica Mountains. Been to several weddings at various locations in the canyons there. You’re lucky to have a seamstress mom, and your dress and veil sound lovely. My mom and grandma were also good at sewing and I remember my mom sewed my bridesmaid dress for my big sisters wedding, and the ones for the other bridesmaids. That was also in the 70s.

This cracks me up. Baby probably heard one of her parents saying something like “that fucking goat is back.” This is in New Zealand:

On SNL, yes the rumors are that McKinnon is leaving, along with Cicely Strong. If true, that skit of her singing “My Way” as Judge Jeanine is her swan song to SNL. She’s been on for a long time. Also rumored to be leaving are Keenan Thompson and Heidi Bryant. The four of them were all shown together in the cold open of the final episode of the season. That’s kind of SNL’s A-team. (Keenan Thompson is the longest-serving cast member.)

OMG, between the child spotting the fucking goat and the whirling Dervish of a dog…I am LOL.

Thanks for those Annie and GAgal.

Yes Annie, the mountains and canyons of southern Cal. are wonderful and some of my old stomping grounds. I grew up in the Valley.

How did that lovely work out, Shadow?

@28, Shadow, I did too. In Encino, then Sepulveda, right next to Northridge. We moved to Westlake in ’69 when it was new.

Oh, that poor dog!

Bob Dylan is 80 today. Where did the years go?

Annie @30

Wow, we were so close in the Valley. For me, Granada Hills, Woodland Hills, off to college on Oahu, Manoa Valley, Europe, then to the Bay Area.

Just like domestic abuse… On a large enough scale, it’s considered “culture” or “conservatism”. h/t quixote.

The same goes for people living in an alternate reality. Like if it was just one guy coming into your house and peeing on your carpet and you’re like, OMG, dude. WTF? You just peed on my carpet. And he’s all, “no I didn’t, no I didn’t, no I didn’t” over and over and you can tell he really believes it. You start to feel a little scared and almost bad for him. You say, “Can’t you… like um, see….and um, smell what you just did?” No. He cannot. Whoa. He’s freaking coo coo clock. But in large enough numbers? He’s the Republican Party.

@31 Luna, I had the same reaction to that video of the dog: I was upset about the dog and how they were treating it!

Have you guys been following that insane story out of Belarus?? Just absolute madness. And such a dangerous escalation. If the US and Europe do not punish the dictator Lukashenko (and punish him hard), we have entered new territory for state sponsored terrorism. Being concerned is not enough, it’s Susan Collins level concerned.

@36, DYB, thx for posting that. She was a good musician and a fabulous woman.

@37, It’s horrible. And the airline saying it’s in their charter or regs or whatever bullshit that they’ll hand a person over to violent thugs is abhorrent and sickening.

The EU has just banned the Belarus airline and won’t fly their planes over Belarus territory. Biden needs to do the same or better, and do it fast.

Let’s try that again —

Apparently Martina Navratilova avoided flying anywhere near Russian airspace too.

I want one! The pygmy marmoset, not the insect. Actually, no, they shouldn’t be kept captive as pets but they are really cuuuuuute.

Baryshnikov starred in a great 80s or 90s movie called White Nights, in which he plays a ballet dancer who has defected and is kidnapped back by the Soviet Union. Gregory Hines & Isabella Rossellini also star in it and there is some amazing dance scenes.

@41, how cute! And the insects wings look like leaves.

@39, I’m glad the EU did that.

I am missing my Mom so much. And my dogs. It hurts. Cuts like a knife. To be left behind like this… I know for sure they feel bad about it too.

PJ *hugs* Have you considered getting a dog (or a cat) again?

What kills me is that to really smack the Eastern bloc dictators upside the head, all the US and UK (mainly) have to do is stop sheltering their mobster billionaires’ money for them. Including Putin, obviously. It would change the whole horrific Navalny situation too. But noooo. More important to save the loose change of our own ripoff artists.

You’re right, DYB. Getting into Archduke Ferdinand territory.

PJ, take care of yourself as much as you can. And seconding DYB. You need at least one sensible and kindly living organism around.

DYB, thank you for the hugs. And for the good thoughts and good sense! from you and quixote. *hugs back* to you. I think it would help a lot, for sure. And I loved the way quixote said it. 🙂

PJ, adding my good wishes. A companion animal is good for the heart.

annie, I didn’t know about Baryshnikov’s role in a movie. He was a strong supporter of Hillary, and made an impactful ad for her in 2016, about how he trusted her on Russia and that Trump’s sucking up to Putin was dangerous.

WaPo reports a grand jury has been convened to potentially indict Trump Org executives.

Yes DYB @53, this is the tip of the iceberg on the rowboat of T-Dump.

@53, ooooh! (gets popcorn ready)

I have long felt that Douglas Adams was wrong about white mice. The real creatures in control are cuttlefish. I mean, just *look* at them!

I need yet one more cute critter video because today’s been crappy work-wise. Co-worker tells me she needs 2 weeks’ advance notice to add 1 paragraph (8 lines) to an electronic newsletter that goes out on the 1st, so I’ve missed a deadline. 2 weeks. Riiiiiight.

That pup looks so proud of the branch he found. Great gatherer of firewood.

PJ, also sending love and hugs. Hope you can find the perfect pet for you. My mom (91) lives alone and treasures her little dog. It’s a snotty little yapping and snapping spoiled little thing that is possessive of my mom, but we are glad she has him.

Luna, Baryshnikov was also in a ballet movie called The Turning Point which had wonderful ballet scenes. I’m glad he campaigned for Hillary.

@56, Amazing. I’ve heard of them, didn’t know they were smart.

@58, What a cutie.

Did we talk about the funny snit Rand Paul is in because of Richard Marx? Yes, Richard Marx the pop star. Marx tweeted that he would like to hug Rand Paul’s neighbor and buy him a drink. Sniveler Rand insists that Marx was calling for people to commit violence against him, Rand! Seriously! I think I’ve seen 1,000 tweets from people praising Rand Paul’s neighbor, but he chose to carry on about the one from Richard Marx. So today (or yesterday), Paul gave a presser where he claims someone sent him an envelope with white powder and blamed Marx for it. Marx of course, is making the most of it:

Oops.

@63 The white powder is for his baby nappies.

I had no clue who Richard Marx was, but I like this little song.

Shadow, he was quite popular in the 80s. Had several pop hits and some videos on MTV. He still performs.

Shadow, yes Richard Marx had a few big hits in the 1980s and early 1990s. He is married to Daisy Fuentes, who was one of the biggest MTV VJs.

Hi Shinners! I came back from my vacay on Monday, only to find out yesterday morning that one of my best friends from college (whom I’ve been speaking with on Zoom almost every week) suddenly passed away. His widow called me and we were both just sobbing on the phone. It has been a tough couple of days.

Seeing this post is a great distraction. I’ll come back and read the comments later!

Oh, mb, so sorry to hear that! {{{}}}

MB, I am also very sorry to hear the sad news about your friend. Sending you a big hug.

I’m sorry, MB. I know how bad it hurts.

MB, that’s awful; sorry to hear this.

Thank you Luna and Annie – your story cracked me up, Annie. Too funny! I truly hope I don’t have to live that long, but if I do (and please God, no… Black Lady In the Sky, if you care about me at all, please don’t do that to me) there needs to be a dog like that. Or a cat. A boss baby. Who owns me even though I’m the one paying the bills and providing food, etc.

So I’m getting checked out at the grocery store. This lady checking me out appears to be Hispanic. Maybe from Mexico? Or from Guatemala. I can’t tell because being born white makes you a little bit braindead. Just watch the crowd at a WV basketball game. Or a Trump rally. Or WWE. Oh my GAWD. (I’m not wanting to make any white people here feel bad. But you know, seriously…)

She tells me the price in Spanish. And then immediately blushes and is all embarrassed. I’m like, “you speak two languages?” I think that’s (fucking) awesome. I wish I understood what you just said.

I think quixote said she speaks like five (?) languages. Isn’t that amazing?

Mc Turtle is asking senators to support filibustering the bill creating a January 6 commission as ‘a personal favor’ to him.

CNN

“Personal favor” Riiiiiiight. Is that a threat or a promise?

Thought-provoking and infuriating thread. Biden needs to release the full Mueller report.

I’m really on an animal kick.

Yipes, The Tasmanian devils there are just babies. I would hate to see what a grown up one looks like.

They look like they have been chewed on already and those eyes and teeth…frightening to me.

Luna, you have a much bigger heart that is inclusive to insects and animals I would avoid at all costs.

More information from the Natl. Geographic –

Ranger was holding one of those “Tazi devils” without even wearing gloves!

They remind me of a cross between an opossum and a pig, lol. I find them interesting, though I wouldn’t want one as a pet of course. But they were part of the Australian/Tasmanian environment for a long time when it was in balance.

There’s a reason they’re called Tasmanian devils. Enough teeth for a sawmill and the disposition to rip off your arm just in case it tastes good.

They start training that temper from birth. From Wikipedia: “Females average four breeding seasons in their life, and give birth to 20 to 30 live young after three weeks’ gestation. The newborn are pink, lack fur, have indistinct facial features, and weigh around 0.20 g (0.0071 oz) at birth. As there are only four nipples in the pouch, competition is fierce, and few newborns survive.” How’s that for a system?

“Enough teeth for a sawmill.” LOL

In the article about the devils, some of the Australians who are breeding the devils say since there are way too many cats, and not enough predictors to cut their numbers way down, the devils would keep the balance.
They go on to say that the devils would need to be protected from their own predictors and be fenced in to protect them.

Now let’s assume that at some point the devils population grows so that they can ‘balance’ the population by killing a boat load of cats.

My question is, how do the devils get to the cats if they are fenced in? Will some humans have to throw the feral cats over the fence to feed the devils?

Yikes, that would be horrible.

Oh my, Annie got the J&J jab and was hospitalized! That is terrible. I hope you are feeling better, Annie.

I also had a bad reaction to the J&J as you all might remember. I didn’t end up in the hospital but I had facial numbness on one side, severe muscle pain and numbness in my legs and lower back, and numbness in both hands. Also petechiae on my arms and legs.

For two months after getting the jab, I woke up every morning with the numbness in my hands and legs. It has finally gone away. I still have some petechiae.

I would not recommend the J&J since the other two vaccines are now widely available.

Yipes, not ‘predictors’ in 91 above, predators

Good to see you Beata and sorry you had such bad reactions to the J&J.

The only lingering bad reactions from the Moderna shot I have had is 34 days of being dizzy, helped to stop it by 500 mg of vitamin C, and I have lost a little of my sense of smell and taste. I hope in time the two last symptoms come back as strong as before the second shot.

PJ, good to see you!

Get yourself a pet, ASAP. Pets are such a comfort and we all need as much comfort as we can find these days!

I had a Guinea Pig once. It was adorable. They purr when you pet them and chirp when you give them treats ( mine loved dandelion greens ). They can be litter trained, too.

Shadow, I hope your lingering side effects will soon be gone. My problems with numbness went away exactly 60 days after I got my shot!

Vertigo is a nightmare, isn’t it? I have it constantly from a brain tumor that compresses my lower cranial nerves. I even have it when I am lying down with my eyes closed. The only time I don’t feel it is when I am asleep.

Vertigo is awful. Beata, I’m glad your side effects are finally over. Shadowfax, I hope yours will stop soon.

The Tasmanian devils — I think they’re keeping them fenced off and zoo-fed until they have a good plan and approval for releasing them into the wild. And no one they’re vicious if they have to plow over and kick their sibs out of the way to get fed. The poor mothers having so many litters a year!

Cicadas are cute! They are all over our yard. I pick them up and let them crawl on my arms. Doesn’t bother me a bit. They don’t sting or smell bad or anything like that. They are harmless.

I fell in love with my first boyfriend because he could eat worms without throwing up. Sigh. We were both 5 years old and he lived across the street.

Oh Beata, so sorry you have vertigo, it really is horrible. I wish there was something they could give you to help you, I guess 500 mg of Vit C won’t help, but I get chewable ones and maybe they might help, if not, it does help your body and they are yummy. Sending you a big hug.

I’m not going to argue with your boyfriend selection criteria, Beata, because it sounds like you have a real keeper right now, buuuuut … worms?? /*backs away slowly toward the exit*/
