Latest 2018 Predictions

Posted on: January 2, 2018

Hello Widdershins! It’s the 2nd day of 2018, and already I’ve got my favorite prediction for the year right above the fold. It’s funny how cautious the press is being when every single indicator shows that Drumpf and the GOP are going to get crushed…then again, they don’t have the best record on the Mango Moron, do they?

In any case, here are some other predictions I’ve seen and liked in the past few days. Please feel free to add your own in the comments!

By Jack Goldsmith in Lawfare: The President Can’t Kill the Mueller Investigation

Not so happy, but important, from Eric Holthaus in Mother Jones: The Arctic will Never be Frozen Again

Here are some really interesting, wide-ranging predictions from the Washington Post.

Is Ivanka about to be arrested for fraud? Oh please, oh please….

Is Devin Nunes going to federal prison? Oh please, oh please

#MeToo becomes #TimesUp: I predict this new organization will change working culture, and relationships between men and women in the workplace.

And one more from me: I predict that Hillary’s organization, Onward Together, will grow exponentially, as the fortunes of all of the men and women who threw her under the bus decline in equal proportion.

This is an open thread.

Catching up from last thread —

@71, GAgal, I understand why you’d feel that way about Franken’s 2005 book. The Bush/Cheney malfience seems … uh, sophomoric compared to Trump’s treason and stripping our country down for parts to sell.

Snowshoes — ouch! Feet about shoulder-width apart is best for stability in snow, but yes, they must have been too big/wide for you.

Oh the poor kitty! But that must have been funny!

@76, me too!

@81, Frester & 83, GAgal, heard a lot of that happened in the Alabama race. 😦

Very nice post MB, very positive!

God, I loved the Midnight Special when I was young. My friends and I would gather at one of our houses after having gone out to watch it.

The Lawfare article is interesting, I hope they’re right.

Can you imagine if we lost Al Franken, and ended up with Michele Bachmann?!?

Mitt Romney changed his location (home) on Twitter from Massachusetts to Utah within the last 20 mins. LOL.

@3Can you imagine if we lost Al Franken, and ended up with Michele Bachmann?!?

Love the comments on “Knit” Romney! 😀

Chocolate must NEVER go extinct! The very idea.

I gotta say that Michele Bachmann is bonkers looney-tunes, and everyone knows it. Minnesota will not elect her. Don’t worry!

Really, I don’t know why anyone cares if Mitt Romney runs for Senate. He’s just Orin Hatch in a different suit. Their votes would be the same.

Trump tweeted (about Rocket Man) ‘My button is BIGGER … and it works!” Your button? You don’t say. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

@4 socalannie> I hope Kim Jong-Un gets us before the chocolate runs out.

Is this why Dump gonna get us all nuked?

This person is a WaPo reporter. (You should all go and comment on the thread, for the ratio.)

I feel like I don’t laugh much these days, but DYB @14 and the fake (but BIG) red diversionary button had me laughing out loud.

The thing that doesn’t get mentioned often enough is that Clinton’s famous zomg eleventy private email server that the idiots are so exercised about … was the server Bill had set up and secured by professionals for unhackable communication. With a past Prez and a SoS in the family, they knew who to call.

So this is not the same as just using your throwaway account at (as, I think it was, Colin Powell did). This is not the same as me running email through my feebly secured home server. And it was obviously better than the State Dept. post-Clinton, who did get hacked.

All she did, like every other gov and academic employee in the 00s, was use non-institutional accounts when she wanted to get anything done until IT depts started to catch up with the realities of computing. The only difference was she did it better and more securely than everyone else. Typical.

@19, facts are so inconvenient to the GOP and Bernie progbros.

@16 – Yup, that’s why. That plus the endaround with South Korea.

So funny!

Most of the Trumpists’ days must be spent thinking up ways to be mean and stupid.

Oh, those overpaid government workers. Who needs national security anyhow? Russia is our friend, sez the President*.

NSA’s top talent is leaving because of low pay, slumping morale and unpopular reorganization

The National Security Agency is losing its top talent at a worrisome rate as highly skilled personnel, some disillusioned with the spy service’s leadership and an unpopular reorganization, take higher-paying, more flexible jobs in the private sector.

Since 2015, the NSA has lost several hundred hackers, engineers and data scientists, according to current and former U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter. The potential impact on national security is significant, they said.

Headquartered at Fort Meade in Maryland, the NSA employs a civilian workforce of about 21,000 there and is the largest producer of intelligence among the nation’s 17 spy agencies. The people who have left were responsible for collecting and analyzing the intelligence that goes into the president’s daily briefing. Their work also included monitoring a broad array of subjects including the Islamic State, Russian and North Korean hackers, and analyzing the intentions of foreign governments, and they were responsible for protecting the classified networks that carry such sensitive information.

Apparently, a lot of people have been reporting dump’s insane tweet to KJU, but twitter has been posting back to them that it doesn’t violate their standards. An insane American president taunting an insane dictator about starting a nuclear war “doesn’t violate their standards.” They clearly have no standards.

@27: Well here’s a good 2018 prediction courtesy of No More Mister Nice Blog. Includes some appropriate music too.

Okay Eastcoasters, before the nukes arrive you’re gonna have “bombogenesis”

@30 I’m in the outer part of that and my sinuses have been insane lately. I’ve had to go lay down because there are ‘squigly’ ‘ things affecting my vision.

GAgal, Luna can correct me on this, but it seems unlikely to me that the atmospheric pressure, low as it is, could be low enough to be causing squiggly visuals. If they don’t go away after a lie down, hie thee to a doctor.

And, yes. Winter hurricanes. Isn’t climate change fun? And we ain’t seen nuthin yet.

@33 quixote> I’m not a doctor so take what I say with a grain or two of salt, but are you hydrated? I’ve had weird things like you’re describing and it was because I was severely dehydrated (during the summer.)

With Mitt Romney, I’m afraid all those brave Republicans who spoke out against Dump during the primaries have crawled back into their shells. Paper tigers all. Romney will not stand up to Trump. In part because Romney wants what Trump wants. It is true of Jeff Flake and Susan Collins and Murkowski and Corker and all the rest. They agree with Trump, they just don’t like his methods. That’s the scary part. They will not save us. There are no principled Republicans who will choose country over party. Their transformation is complete.

I saw some fun discussions on twitter about Lindsey Graham’s 180 on Trump. Everyone suspects blackmail – about his boyfriend. Stolen emails from these people would reveal private messages between Graham and his man, which Trump is using to whip him in line. I certainly have little doubt Graham has a boyfriend.

Oh yes, the snowmageddon is already messing with my work and life! It’s winters like these when I seriously wonder why I don’t live in California like most of my family. Quixote and Socal, you have the right idea!

Meanwhile, my sinuses have also been awful lately, but no squiggly things. I agree with Quixote, GAGal. There may be something else going on.

Bannon goes nukular on Jared and Junior.

@37, that would be my definition of Hell.

Trump responds to Bannon and holy hell.

GAgal, barometric pressure changes might slightly affect clogged sinuses. Pressure changes are known to influence achey joints because of effects on the synovial fluid in joints. Wriggly optic images though? Could be visual aura effects prior to migraine headache, though unusual that they are new symptoms. Occasionally people only have the aura and never get the headache. Or possibly aura symptoms of epilepsy, though very unusual to start now.

I’d call an ophthalmologist or optician pronto if they continue or come back. I can’t use an ophthalmoscope across the cyberwaves, alas! Vision is precious.

Mitch McConnell’s office just tweeted this.

Wow, between Drumpf trying to out-schwing Kim-Jong Un, and he and Bannon getting into a catfight, the Mango Moron’s approval rating is going to tank even farther. Twitter is on fire today!

I want the Ds to go on all the cable news shows, point to the “my button’s bigger” tweet, and start calling out Republicans for not impeaching Drumpf. I would say treason is a high crime and misdemeanor, as is obstruction of justice, which Drumpf admitted to on national Teevee when he said he fired Comey to stop the Russia investigation. That is corrupt intent.

The Democrats need to start attacking these traitors head-on and hold them accountable for their inaction.

The Democrats need to start attacking these traitors head-on and hold them accountable for their inaction.
This would be the wise thing to do instead of letting someone like Gilibrand, Harris and others eat their own.

These actions show that having a big mouth on TV does not equate with being highly intelligent.

madamab, “treason is a high crime … as is obstruction of justice.”

Watching them start to mix it up in the old mud pit, and finding out that even Ivanka doesn’t believe in her Dad’s hair, who knew that treason was also farce?

Trump versus Bannon. It’s like Godzilla against Mothra. I hope they both go down in flames.

“And this is what the book says “Hicks sat in Trump Tower with Trump and his sons, worried about Lewandowski’s treatment in the press and wondering aloud how she might help him. Trump, who otherwise seemed to treat Hicks in a protective and even paternal way, looked up and said, ‘Why? You’ve already done enough for him. you’re the best piece of tail he’ll ever have’ sending Hicks running from the room,” Jansing read.

There was a fire at a SS facility of Hillary and Bill’s home.

The New Castle Police and the Chappaqua Fire Department firefighters responded to the Clinton property in Chappaqua, in northern Westchester County, after receiving a call about a fire at 2:51 p.m, according to local reports. The fire was extinguished at 3:17 p.m.

A Clinton spokesman, Nick Merrill, said the fire occurred in a Secret Service facility not connected to the couple’s home in Chappaqua.

Merrill added on Twitter that the “small fire” occurred while the Clintons were not at the”residence. “All is ok!” he wrote.

@32: GAgal, it was too late/early (?) this a.m. to go into this but it sounds like you are having “floaters” with your eyes/vision.

@52 – Per Rachel:

Ohhhhh, snap! I was hoping it was impeachment.

And re Dems calling out Repubs, looks like Schumer is starting. FINALLY.

Thanks everyone for your comments on my vision/headaches. I definitely have floaters in my eyes. (sign of aging :() I only have the squiggly lines occasionally with headaches. If I doze off an hour or so, I’m good as new. Thank goodness it has never turned into a full blown migraine.

Trump disbands the voter blocking commission!

@57, GAgal, I had floaters even when I was a teenager. Lots of young and middle-aged people have floaters as well as older people. They’re rarely squiggly-line shaped, though. Sounds like your squiggles are connected with headaches. Glad to hear you don’t have full-blown migraines.

@54, finally! Only about 11 months too late, but at least they’ve started.

@55, hurrah!

OMG! a journalist is using the term “baseless claim” about Trump. This is another “It’s about time!”

Trump abolishes controversial commission studying alleged voter fraud

The decision is a major setback for Trump, who created the commission last year in response to his baseless claim that he lost the popular vote to Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 because of millions of illegally cast ballots.

GAgal, I had the squiggly lines in one eye a few months ago. Scared the crap out of me. Like you, I laid down and it went away. Laker & I both get auras, with Laker it can be prelude to a seizure (usually is not), with me usually a prelude to a migraine. I get a weird aura where both my temples get a swirling tingly feeling for a while, then it goes away. It scared me for a long time, but I haven’t been able to find anything like it online, and I did go to a neurologist a few years ago, who had no idea what I was talking about. I insisted he give me an eeg and he did and there weren’t any abnormalities. Anyway, it actually kind of feels good.

Regarding eye floaters, hubs & I have a couple of tiny ones; hubs had one that bothered him a couple of years ago, and he started using these eye drops that are supposed to help, and it did! His floaters shrank dramatically he says. I’ve been using it all year and my floaters are microscopic now, my eyes aren’t dry anymore, and I am using weaker reading glasses! Here it is, we buy it off Amazon:

@62, floaters go away by themselves 95+% of the time. That neurologist should have told you that a normal EEG does not rule out a seizure disorder. Around half of the time EEGs are normal in people with epilepsy — it’s just that during the short time of the EEG there’s no seizure-type activity.

That swirly tingly feeling in your temples — not sure if you meant it happened prior to a headache? Sure sounds like a pre-migraine aura, or a migrainous aura by itself without the headache. Possibly a very faint focal (used to be called temporal lobe) seizure or just the aura by itself. Doesn’t sound dangerous. You’d probably have to see a sub-specialist in headache and/or epilepsy to get more of a proper work-up if you wanted to. But if it’s not a problem for you, that’s good.

Ivanka’s the only one allowed in his bedroom in the morning? Creepy.

@65 Ewwwww.

Knows that if he showed up the whole place would be carrying protest signs.

…while Sen. Jones smiles at Pence’s discomfort and Louise Jones signals son “don’t you dare laugh just yet — I can barely keep a straight face myself!”

@68 Luna> LOL

Lawmakers concerned about President Donald Trump’s mental state summoned Yale University psychiatry professor Dr. Bandy X. Lee to Capitol Hill last month for two days of briefings about his recent behavior.

In private meetings with more than a dozen members of Congress held on Dec. 5 and 6, Lee briefed lawmakers — all Democrats except for one Republican senator, whom Lee declined to identify. Her professional warning to Capitol Hill: “He’s going to unravel, and we are seeing the signs.”

In an interview, she pointed to Trump “going back to conspiracy theories, denying things he has admitted before, his being drawn to violent videos.” Lee also warned, “We feel that the rush of tweeting is an indication of his falling apart under stress. Trump is going to get worse and will become uncontainable with the pressures of the presidency.”

Every time one of these pundits says ‘The Trump Tower meeting where they were promised dirt on Hillary’ I wish they would finish the damn sentence ‘where they conspired to release stolen emails through WikiLeaks in exchange for lifting the sanctions on Russia’. So what if it’s only speculation? They spent plenty of time speculating about Hillary’s every move. She couldn’t even cough with out it.

Luna @68, omg, that is awesome! Love the tweet and your comment–you should retweet it with your comment.

The swirly auras that I get come in both temples at the same time, and last about a minute. My migraine auras are on one side (whichever side the migraine is on) and usually start around the eye, then the migraine kicks in, so if I take an Excedrin when I feel the aura, the migraine isn’t as bad. Interesting the way that works. I’ve never had a seizure, that I know of, and I’m your age. I did know that about EEG’s. I wish I had Laker’s neurologist, his is a woman who is very thorough and concerned. I got a man that wasn’t the least bit interested.

Laker is currently undergoing a change in his seizure meds, which takes several weeks. So far, we are very happy with the new drug, as he is much more cheerful and easy going, like his old self again.

DYB @69, I love that! @72, Oh good grief! Well, he seems to be as dumb as he looks.

GAgal @73, I think she hit the nail on the head. @74, agree!

Too bad the media didn’t pay this much attention to Bannon back when Trump first brought him and David Bossie (Citizens United) onto his campaign – you know, when Hillary was warning everyone that Trump was surrounding himself with white supremacists? Even now, it’s just for the gossipy reasons instead of who he really is.

Oh look. Wolff managed to get a knock in on Bill Clinton in his book, too. Because…why not?
