What Is This New Devilry?

I think we can all safely assume that the depths to which the Republican party will sink to prop up Trump is a bottomless pit. There are still, believe it or not, those who think that the next big thing that happens will be the moment the GOP will turn on Trump. But we have all collectively been expecting the next big thing for almost two years. It did not come before the GOP primaries, it did not come during the GOP primaries, Trump did not pivot after securing the election, Trump did not pivot as the 2016 race heated up, Trump did not change after he “won,” he did not change after beings worn in, the GOP did not turn on him after his 100 days and they will not turn on him after he nukes California. If I am wrong about this, Tucker Carlson will eat my shoes. I say that because I am not a betting man and I have no desire to eat my shoes, but Carlson should have shoes shoved down his throat every day he breathes.

GOP did not turn on Trump after he fired Comey. Instead, they have gone after Comey. In 170517175257-03-robert-mueller-file-large-169recent days Trump has indicated via carefully leaked stories (which he then denies…) that he is considering firing Robert Muller. If anyone thought this would turn the GOP against him – LOL. Newt Gingrich has already began an assault on Muller. The most recent news (sorry, it’s by Haberman and Thrush, the Times Twins) is that Trump thought leaking the story that he’s considering firing Muller would make Muller more likely to exonerate Trump because, in Trump’s twisted head, Muller is desperate to keep his job.

The president was pleased by the ambiguity of his position on Mr. Mueller, and thinks the possibility of being fired will focus the veteran prosecutor on delivering what the president desires most: a blanket public exoneration.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions also declined to offer his support for Mr. Mueller during testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

This is, of course, patently bananas. I doubt Muller cares about this job beyond conducting an investigation. Perhaps Trump thinks Muller is another one of his dim-witted White House monkeys like Sean Spicer and Reince Priebus, people who are – for reasons that defy comprehension – so desperate to hold on to their jobs that they debase themselves each and every day.

On behalf of the entire senior staff around you, Mr. President, we thank you for the opportunity and the blessing that you’ve given us to serve your agenda and the American people. And we’re continuing to work very hard every day to accomplish those goals.

“…the blessing that you’ve given us…” This was the former head of the RNC groveling before Trump and the entire cabinet and 1494875127256many cameras, dragging his pathetic broken body across a bed of nails and fire to lick the athlete’s foot fungus off Trump’s feet. Sean Spicer, his eyes hollow, hideous black bags under them, skin bloodless like a vampire, screams at the press The President has made it very clear that… each and every day. (Except the days he is replaced by Sarah Huckabee Sanders (I never fail to marvel at the glory of her name; God really does have a sense of humor), who is as haughty with the press as Spicer is hysterical. Huckabee Sanders yells at them too, but hers is a thinly veiled Fuck you, you numb nuts ratfucking pigs sort of contempt. The White House press deserves both.)

What it is the GOP at large wants to accomplish I’m not entirely certain. Yes, I know they want to repeal the ACA (chances of this have increased by a lot), and lower taxes on rich people and take grandma’s social security away. But it seems to me the long-term damage done to their party is irreparable. The Republican who stands up and leads the chant of “Impeach Trump!” is likely to be glorified in the future. Everyone else will be forgotten in infamy as a blob of GOP scum. If we ever thought John McCain would lead a Republican resistance, McCain never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity to stand on actual principles instead of talking about them. After an embarrassing partisan display (but her e-mails) and humiliating mental collapse while questioning Comey, we now also learn Cindy McCain will work for Trump in the State Department.  But then again, I have been wrong before and if I am wrong about any of this again, I will let let Tucker Carlson eat my shoes.

This is an open thread. What’s on your mind Widdershins?

There was a shooting this morning at Capitol Hill baseball practice. Scalise among 4 people who were shot. (Scalise has an A+ rating from the NRA and has a government subsidized health insurance…) Thoughts and prayers….

Great post DYB.

RE: The multiple shootings at the GOP baseball practice.

The irony of the GOP NRA supporters of every gun is a good gun and saves lives, isn’t missed. Men aren’t men without a way to kill others, and semi automatics are even more fun.

I am anxious to find out why the shooter targeted these Congressmen.

Looks like the shooter also expected Hillary to concede the primary to Bernie, called her a Republican lite, and endorsed Bernie’s view of socialism…

https://twitter.com/search?q=James+T.+Hodgkinson&ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Esearch

Developing headline, but no article yet…

Suspect in GOP baseball practice shooting is dead, Trump says

Yep, he seems to be a Bernie Bro. Bernie is about to deliver a speech on the Senate floor acknowledging it and condemning him. Maybe screaming “revolution” for a year carries some consequences and it’s not just “locker room” talk. People are listening…

Love the post DYB. You got all the monkeys covered. People wonder about what happened to all the Ringling Bros. acts when they closed. Not to worry, they traded the big top for the Rethug tent. And I must say, “How much can you love Patti LuPone?” I mean honestly. I wonder if we could find a mountain like Rushmore and put Hillary, Patti, Bette, and a few others in their rightful place of honor.

A year go.

I’m still not seeing coverage on the SF shooting on CNN – not even a mention.

SF shooting? There was also some sort of shooting at Barclay’s Arena area in Brooklyn, but I’ve only seen it mentioned by local NYC friends.

@13: It was at a UPS facility in S.F.

Scalise is my congresscritter from the La. 1st. Cong. District.

Fredster, oh I did see something about a UPS facility. Didn’t realize it was San Fran.

Scalise sounds like a scumbag. And I just love how everyone on the Left is “Let’s not politicize this!” And the Right is: “It’s all Democrats’ fault!” And Bernie’s people are: “But he said peaceful revolution!”

Hodgkinson, the shooter at the GOP baseball game, has a 2006 “domestic” (i.e. misogynist) violence incident in his record.

I’m sure Congress will now

a) stop swallowing whole the NRA dogma that more guns is always always always better, and

b), will establish a watchlist of men who commit violence against women, which so far has been the only reliable leading indicator of tendencies to mass murder, and

c), stop worrying about brown people and/or turbans.

@15: DYB, he once said “I’m David Duke without the sheet”. In fact when he first ran for a seat in the La. lege it was the seat that Duke had previously held.

@16: And quixote when the repubs start talking about gun violence (doubtful they will) but if they do I hope someone brings up Gabby Giffords.

In the comments for one article at nola.com I saw a commenter say “the libtards have been against Trump since the election, yadda yadda. I asked him in a reply where his outrage was about the repubs being against the black man in the Oval for eight years.

DYB, Love the post and your first 3 comments are perfect!

On another topic, here’s Jason Miller on CNN yesterday talking about Kamala Harris being “hysterical” and a woman on the panel was not having it. Can’t embed this because it’s an mp4 format.

http://shareblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Powers061317.mp4?_=1

@10, Prolix, I so agree!

@12: contrask you must have been ecstatic with the Sooners football news the other day.

@20, Fredster, I saw that cnn moment and it infuriated me. I’m glad the cnn anchor called him out on it, but why does cnn have to have these inflammatory jerks on all the time? Its why I haven’t watched cnn in years. Harris was anything but hysterical, she was professional, calm and tough. Reminded me of Hillary. I hope she runs for prez someday.

@23: annie, that guy Miller along with Jeffery Lord both deserve a pie right in their kisser and on live tv. Then the pie thrower could say “call me hysterical”.

@24, LOL! That would be fun to do. Mrs. Betty Bowers is on snark-fire on twitter, and I think this is ironic:

Don’t intend this to sound mean, harsh or anything like that, but I’m sure Scalise’s health plan will cover his medical costs very well.

According to a spokesman for the DC Health Benefit Exchange, lawmakers and their staffs select from 57 plans offered by four health insurance companies.

I’ve had this bookmarked for some time.

@27, Fredster, I don’t think its mean at all to bring that up. I’m not glad that scalise (a asshole of the highest order) and the others were shot, but I’m glad people are using the crime to point out the hypocrisy of the rethugs slavish devotion to the nra, at all costs. Twitter has some really excellent pieces today. The rethugs stance on gun control, and their callous brushing off of our many mass shootings is one of the most immoral things in our government. The gun industry, the nra, and the rethugs (in politics & the media) are complicit, and this is a good day to call this out, imho.

@28: annie, I got into that exchange one time (had to dummy up some info) and the plans they had available, my goodness, they had some very good benefits and hell, they still had platinum level plans available. The exchange here only offered those for one year and then stopped.

Wow Fredster, that quote from Scalise is everything we need to know about him… And yes, I have no doubt this insurance will cover all the costs. Sadly “racist asshole” does not appear to be a preexisting condition, but it should be!

Muller investigating Trump for obstruction of justice. I wonder how that’ll play out…

“The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

The move by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump’s own conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.

Trump had received private assurances from former FBI Director James B. Comey starting in January that he was not personally under investigation. Officials say that changed shortly after Comey’s firing.”

@31: DYB, the history of that seat in the La lege: David Duke, then lil bobby jindal, and then Scalise. Scalise got the seat after lil bobby went to congress and then he became guv for 8 years. When lil bobby got the congressional gig, Scalise ran for the state seat. And then when lil bobby became guv, Scalise ran for the congressional seat.

I would not wish what happened to him on anyone. Still, when he’s up for reelection (if he runs again) he won’t have my vote, he never has.

And fwiw, I get to still vote in La because I was registered there before the storm in ’05. The lege passed a law that said if you were displaced by a natural disaster you could still vote there. I’ve never registered anywhere else and still own property and pay property taxes there.

@32, re: wapo breaking that Mueller is investigating dump for Obstruction of Justice.

Good. Let’s hope this is just the beginning.

@32 & 34: Agree. Hope it’s the tip of the iceberg.

My comment a couple of days ago on the last post:

As I said awhile back – imagine if neither Bernie or Trump had run and stirred up all this anger and hate? Was this country really so angry before they showed up? I don’t think so.

D, I forgot to say I loved this:

This was the former head of the RNC groveling before Trump and the entire cabinet and, dragging his pathetic broken body across a bed of nails and fire to lick the athlete’s foot fungus off Trump’s feet.

Muller investigating Trump for obstruction of justice.

———–
This leak is a Hallelujah moment. It eases my mind a little to know that our Constitution is working and we still have heroes in our country.

I would love to see the Whitehouse cams now, showing pulled out orange plug hair all over the floors and poor Melania silently cussing under her breath, “Why the Hell did I decide to move into the Whitehouse?”

The Washington Post is the bright and shiny star, making all the other big deal stations run behind them.

Shadowfax, here’s an interesting article on the team Muller has assembled.

https://www.wired.com/story/robert-mueller-special-counsel-investigation-team

@39 Fredster, I was afraid the imagery might be too nauseating. Maybe it just made everyone mildly nauseous?

@41 Oh and yes, I’d be very interested to see Dump’s attitude right now. You know it’s his birthday! His lawyer released a statement saying the leak is outrageous and illegal… But not denying it.

Of course, the thinking now is: will Dump try to fire Muller?

I don’t really want to hear anyone call this shooter a Democrat. He was a Bernie supporter. That doesn’t make him a Democrat. He hated Hillary and supported Jill Stein after the primaries. As far as ‘everyone needs to tone down the rhetoric on both sides’ – it’s not the Hillary people who are screaming about how horrible our government is. That’s all on Bernie and Trump.

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/06/heres-what-accused-gunman-james-hodgkinson-posted-on-social-media-before-firing-at-gop-lawmakers/

Thank you GAgal! yes – I already jumped on a fb person along the same lines. I told her that shooter doesn’t represent Democrats any more than Timothy McVeigh represents Republicans.

@ 37, GAgal, very intuitive of you. I’m glad you reposted that.
Also, I won’t call the shooter a democrat either, been referring to him as a Bernie-bot all day.

@38, Fredster, yes, I assumed that the hip would be a dangerous place to be shot.

@40, that was good, wasn’t it? She’s been on fire all day.

@48, contrask, good one! 🙂

Interesting detail from the new articles on Muller’s investigation (from WaPo and WSJ.) They say that part of the investigation is Trump asking Coates and Rogers to deny the Russian investigation in public, and that both refused. At the testimony, Rogers said he never felt any kind of pressure from Trump about the investigation. Warner pressed him repeatedly (in link below), mentioning a memo that existed that documented such a conversation and Rogers repeatedly says he stands by his statement that he felt no pressure. Now WaPo and WSJ identify that the memo was written by Rogers’ now-departed deputy and it summarized that Trump wanted Rogers to play down the investigation. Which means Rogers may have perjured himself, even though Warner really tries to help him…

GAgal, I agree with you and contrask. On the Bernie supporters twitter site he not only adores his St. Bernie, he also agrees with his SOCIALIST political views. Dems were stupid to let Barnanimal get away with hijacking their party and trashing Hillary.

43 DYB
Holy smokes!! Trump should be very scared. I’m sure the case includes the little prince and also the Rump sons and adoring daughter. When this case is finished…the IRS will be on his back like tree sap and feathers.

Rump is going to curse the day he decided to run for President and leave the comfort of his golden man-cave.

@44: Absolutely not. It was a totally appropriate and vivid image of rancid p*nis. (Look: I was nice and didn’t type penis).

@51: I just livestreamed the tv news from nola and apparently Scalise has had an additional surgery plus a number of transfusions.

DYB, very interesting. I hope a lot of the collaborators that helped dump get caught up in this investigation.

“Rump is going to curse the day he decided to run for President and leave the comfort of his golden man-cave.”

Shadowfax, I wonder if he already does!

A couple of quick points.

@53, the emphasis Rogers and Coats placed on whether or not they had felt “pressure” or “undue influence” to say or do something that ran counter to their responsibilities was a red herring. Not only a red herring, but a dead rotting, stinking, red herring. Here’s why: Obstruction of justice doesn’t have to be successful to be a crime. Simply put, it doesn’t have a thing to do with the mental state of Coats or Rogers — their mental states have nothing to do with the crime of obstruction. The crime, among many things, is taking an affirmative act to impede or otherwise stymie an investigation or legal proceeding. That impediment doesn’t have to happen. The crime is trying to make it happen and whether or not Dolt 45 had the requisite intent to want to make it happen. Fat chance that didn’t happen.

The other point is this: As we have been talking about around here for weeks now, finally, the NYT is catching on. Mueller’s team is focusing on money laundering. In tonight’s story after WaPo dropped its story on the Mueller investigation, the NYT ultimate paragraph is this:

A former senior official said Mr. Mueller’s investigation was looking at money laundering by Trump associates. The suspicion is that any cooperation with Russian officials would most likely have been done in exchange for some kind of financial payoff, and that there would have been an effort to hide the payoffs, most likely by routing them through offshore banking centers.

The Treasury FinCen can do searches in nanoseconds that used to take months in conducting forensic accounting. This investigation is going much, much faster than anyone expected. It won’t be finished in days or weeks, but Trump will never see New Year’s in the White House.

Prolix @61, “Trump will never see New Year’s in the White House”

Aaah. /*dreams beautiful dreams*/ Could we have that set to a full symphony orchestra and sing it?

One of the other people that was shot today, I think it was a staff member to a congressman, is also in critical condition.

60

Probably, SoCalAnnie. He is somewhat delusional when it comes to his ‘winning’ talents, so he is probably still in denial and ranting around the WhiteHouse. Will he tweet in the middle of the night?

@63:

Authorities said five people were taken to hospitals, including Hodgkinson. Matt Mika, a lobbyist for Tyson Foods, was in critical condition at George Washington University Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Zach Barth, a legislative correspondent for Williams, was shot in the leg and released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

The House speaker’s office identified the injured Capitol Police officers as Special Agents David Bailey, who was treated and released from a hospital, and Crystal Griner, who was struck in the ankle and hospitalized in good condition. Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said both are expected to recover fully. Police identified a third officer who participated as Special Agent Henry Cabrera. They did not say which officers fired their weapons.

“Trump will never see New Year’s in the White House”

———
I hope to God it’s true, and everyone involved in this cabinet of corruption is kicked the heck out of Hillary’s Whitehouse. That would leave Paul Ryan as President????

An Esquire article with some background info on Scalise. (I remember the Duke quote as hm saying the sheet instead of the baggage).

http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a55631/who-is-steve-scalise/

@66> Yep, that leaves Paul Ryan, assuming Pence goes. Then Orrin Hatch. There really are no good options. We’ll be stuck with an evil Rethug until 2020 election.

Trump is “partially to blame for demons that have been unleashed” with his rhetoric. —

———
I absolutely agree and was saying this to my coworker yesterday.

We’ll be stuck with an evil Rethug until 2020 election.

——–
This infuriates me! Hillary should be there and everyone knows it.

@62, singing aloooooong with youuuuuu!

@61, appreciate the nuances you discussed. The concept is far more clear now.

This infuriates me! Hillary should be there and everyone knows it.

And that ^^^ infuriates me!!!!!

Here’s a hint: MOURNING TIME IS OVAH! There are congressional elections coming up in 2018. You people on the left coast and parts of the right coast are very fortunate in that you have a ton of Democrats in Congress in your districts. A lot of the other parts of the country – like mine – not so much. That being said, it behooves every Democrat everywhere to try to work toward regaining the House. This will probably be the best chance we’re going to have to do that. Further, 2020 is on the horizon whether you want to believe it or not. Potential candidates are already eyeing that race.

We Democrats need to start trying to look ’em over to see who we might be willing to support and who we won’t. And you know who I mean.

Hillary Clinton is not going to be getting out of a limo to walk into the White House; not unless she decides to run again in 2020 and wins. She has said she won’t be running for anything again. I’ll take her word on that.

2016 is over. We didn’t get the results we wanted, no matter how it happened. You want to fix that? Then work to insure we get a Democratic House and maybe we can get a constitutional amendment to cover what occurred and maybe we can get rid of the Electoral College.

Rant over but put your widow’s weeds away and get to work!

I’m staying away for a few days. Catch y’all later.

Dump is on a tweet-storm about Hillary. There have now been multiple tweets. It’s bananas! Doesn’t he have a job????

Oh also, Putin has offered Jim Comey asylum if he wants it…

How is this real life?!

Prolix @61, omigosh, that sounds exciting! Thanks for explaining!

Fredster, enjoyed the Rude Pundit piece. Hope you enjoy your days off!

DYB @77-79, good grief! 3 insane leaders that get crazier by the day.

Interesting. Pence has lawyered up concerning Russian probe…

I’m glad to see Stanford say something. I noticed Meeeka was the only pundit this morning anywhere who wanted to talk about Trump’s angry rhetoric being to blame.

oops, I mean Sanford @71!

@85, yes, that surprised me.

@83 yep GAgal, I was about to post that about Pence! Maybe he has something to hide….

I’ve seen Sanford say a few things over the past few months that were definitely outside of the current GOP norm. He seems to give fewer EFs than most Rethuglicans right now.

I get confused by all the technicalities. Didn’t we learn this yesterday? Or is this different?

@61 Prolix – Oh, please! All I want for Christmas is to say “former” in front of choice adjectives for 45. So, they impeach him for obstruction of justice and then prosecute the criminal acts to the hilt – I hope

77
I wonder if this poor young.man can ever recover or if he is being kept alive on machines?

@92 Shadowfax, I haven’t done too much reading on that guy, but some of the headlines suggest he is in a vegetative state. It’s horrible. I don’t think anyone has any idea what they did to him. Supposedly North Korea claims he slipped into a coma right after being arrested because he contracted botulism. That is probably a lie; the doctors here say they see no evidence of that.

Did y’all notice the only two no-votes on the Russian sanctions bill was Rand Paul and …. Bernie Sanders.

Oh and WaPo confirms Muller is also investigating Kushner’s business dealings.

“FBI agents and federal prosecutors have also been examining the financial dealings of other Trump associates, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Carter Page, who was listed as a foreign-policy adviser for the campaign.

The Washington Post previously reported that investigators were scrutinizing meetings that Kushner held with Russians in December — first with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, and then with Sergey Gorkov, the head of a state-owned Russian development bank. At the time of that report, it was not clear that the FBI was investigating Kushner’s business dealings.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/special-counsel-is-investigating-jared-kushners-business-dealings/2017/06/15/5d9a32c6-51f2-11e7-91eb-9611861a988f_story.html?tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.38a89b0f8924

@94> I read his statement and wasn’t sure what he was talking about.

Joe Biden needs to go away.

93 DYB

On life support, yes, it sounds that way to me when they say that all areas of the brain have been affected.

My guess is what ever N. Korea did to him last year, beatings, chemical toxin, or what ever…not sure if traces would necessarily show up now or not. If he can’t breath on his own…they had to have had him on life support for awhile.

My heart goes out to him and his family.

@94 GAgal I saw that & then someone else I follow said Bernie did vote yes. Where is it recorded at? https://twitter.com/BistyCSRoss/status/875485467785011200

I sure hope Jon Osseff wins next week. But this is stuff we have to contend with:

“I was just looking for PDFs or documents,” he recalls, hoping to find anything that might give him a little more sense of the center’s work. But his curiosity turned to alarm when he encountered a number of files, arranged by county, that looked like they could be used to hack an election. Lamb wrote an automated script to scrape the site and see what was there, then went off to lunch while the program did its work. When he returned, he discovered that the script had downloaded 15 gigabytes of data.

“I was like whoa, whoa. … I did not mean to do that. … I was absolutely stunned, just the sheer quantity of files I had acquired,” he tells Politico Magazine in his first interview since discovering the massive security breach.

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/06/14/will-the-georgia-special-election-get-hacked-215255

@101> They do keep telling us that the hacking did not stop on November 8. But if they know what is happening – nobody is really saying much. Just vague warnings, but are they doing anything about it????

Rosenstein just released a bizarre statement! WTF! And how does he not recuse himself! This is nuts.

@103, Rosenstein has kompromat on him, is my guess. Or else he’s a spineless sycophant (that’s probably redundant).

@91, I’ll get over it never. But I will go on.

@97, those examples got elected to high office and accomplished stuff earlier in life. Biden couldn’t win a Dem presidential primary. Twice. And he has foot-in-mouth disease.

@103, in the Twitterverse, some people are saying he released the statement because of the WaPo story about Douchener’s finances being the subject of interest. I’m not sure I buy that.

As we have suspected around these parts, there were lots of foreign intelligence services that had “eyes” on Dolt & Co. during the campaign. I would not be surprised if we might see a story based on some of that; thereby giving rise to Rosenstein’s weird statement. Maybe there’s a PeePee Redux video?

Or maybe Rosenstein’s sending disguised S.O.S. messages.

@109> The joke in twitterverse is that it’s Rosenstein’s coded plea for help. And it does appear to be in response to the WaPo story. Apparently WaPo just updated their story to say that their sources are American… Which seems childish, but funny.

Luna, yes, the whole Biden-mania in some circles just seems nuts. Being Obama’s VP and becoming a beloved uncle has made people forget what a disaster Biden is. Not just all the craziness with Anita Hill, and that he wrote the damned crime bill Hillary is excoriated for, and that he couldn’t go a day without saying something incredibly stupid and offensive…but in addition to all that he ran twice and log bigly. Yugely.

Meanwhile, someone made a funny observation about Bernie and his Bros being outraged that Bernie isn’t treated as the front-runner for the 2020 race. It’s almost as if they expect a…what’s the word? Oh, a coronation!

76. I’ll get over it, when I get over it.

Well then you sit on your ass shadow and whine and cry. You could accomplish something positive but I’ll leave you to wallow.

Oh and just because I said Iwould be away for a few days does not mean I’m not going to check things out from the admin side…just like Uppity Woman.

@91, I’ll get over it never. But I will go on.

Well at least that sounds like something positive.

Another thing about Joe Biden is he can’t keep his hands to himself. If he ever came up from behind me and pulled that shit, I’d elbow him in the gut with my pointy little elbow.

112 Fredster

What’s up with you anyway? If you want me to leave your blog, just say so. I don’t know where all your negativity towards me comes from.

What’s up with me? Why, nothing. But this bugs the living shit out of me:

The Democratic Party is stuck in a moment that it can’t get out of. That moment is 2:30 a.m. on November 9, 2016, when Donald J. Trump took to the podium at the Hilton Midtown in Manhattan to deliver his victory speech, having just won the presidency of the United States. Since then, Democrats have been reliving the shock that was the day before, aware they have to most past the trauma of a devastating loss but unable or unwilling to do so.

Seven months later, they remain stunned, their questions ultimately focused on a fundamental inability to explain how they could blow a 50-point late-fourth-quarter lead, in a contest that had them holding every advantage. If “she-didn’t-campaign-in-Wisconsin” became a popular refrain in the days and weeks after the election, it is only because people needed some means to explain away the inexplicable.

If we aren’t careful, the Bernie folks will become the dominant players in the Democratic Party. I don’t want that and I suspect neither do you. Bernie Sanders does not speak for me as a Democrat.

With Trump’s favorable numbers in the dumpster the Dems have a chance to possibly retake the House. But the Dems have to be willing to get together on the same page to accomplish that. And a big part of that involves moving on from Nov. 2016 – no matter how painful that is. Forget? No. Look forward and be active? Emphatically yes.

I don’t believe there was a more fervent supporter of Hillary Clinton than I was. I know I donated far more money than I comfortably should have to her campaigns, all of them. I knew, knew she was going to win and become the first woman President of the United States. But it didn’t happen.

I don’t care for Tom Perez. But he is the head of the D.N.C. And even though I don’t care for him, when I’ve gotten letters from the DNC I’ve donated a few bucks to the organization. (I spent more than $5 at Wendys) But those dollars also had a two page letter to the D.N.C. saying what I believe the party must do to move forward and attempt to retake the House. And despite the fact that what happened is painful, hurtful, terrible, we have to look forward to see what we can do to accomplish the things I just wrote. Otherwise we’ll continue to have Paul Ryan as Speaker and the Repubs in charge.

Forget? No. Look forward, yes.

Fredster, don’t assume that because I am still furious about what happened in 2008 and 2016 to Hillary, that I don’t think winning the House and or Senate back in 2018 isn’t massively important to keeping the safety net for our citizens and getting more Dems in Congress to stop this Rethug train of destruction. I have never said otherwise.

Does it hurt me to think of the next President never being Hillary, yes it does.

@shadow: Fair enough then.

Oh man. It never fails. Never, ever, ever. I thought it seemed out of character for the Dump to be doing Rubio a favor. And I was surprised to learn he even knew where to find Cuba on a map. Crapping on anything Obama did, yeah, okay, that does seem to be a major motivation in what passes as his mind. And then this shows up and it all makes sense:

With shift on Cuba, Trump could undercut his company’s hotel-industry rivals

Trump … through his official actions … undermine[s] a growth area for his industry rivals who have raced in recent years to establish a foothold in a lucrative new market.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts, which merged with Marriott International to form the world’s largest hotel chain, last year debuted the first Cuban hotel managed by a U.S. company in nearly 60 years….

@119, That does make sense! Mindblowing that he could be such a crook so openly.

Ted Nugent is scared because a Republican got shot. It shows right-wingers aren’t the only ones with guns. That’s a scary thought to a right-wing nutter. So now he wants to be nicer? LOL. Two weeks ago he said he stood by his comments about hanging Hillary.
