Activist Monday: Evil Is Stupid

Posted on: March 13, 2017

Good Monday, Widdershins. I hope you had a good International Women’s Day. I saw quite a few women wearing red at my client site last week in honor of “A Day without a Woman.” It was inspirational. I think there are several more actions planned from the organizers of the Women’s March, so stay tuned!

Now to the title of my post. This comes from some research I’ve been doing on the human brain, and the way it works to keep us alive and protect us from threats. This won’t be a super-science-y piece – more of a meditation on the state our country is in, and how it’s possible for sub-human cretins like Drumpf, Bannon and their minions to win even one vote, much less 60-odd million.

As I’m sure many of you know better than I, there are older, more primitive parts of our brains that only exist to make sure we quickly and instinctively respond to threats. From an evolutionary perspective, these parts of the brains are extremely important. They initiate the “fight or flight” response, which actually also includes a “freeze” as well, giving us microseconds to decide either to go to war, or to retreat.

After millions of years of evolution, we actually developed the capability to process these responses and evaluate them. Ah, the frontal lobe! Human beings develop this part of the brain in young adulthood. At least, some human beings do.

…It organizes responses to complex problems, plans steps to an objective, searches memory for relevant experience, adapts strategies to accommodate new data, guides behavior with verbal skills and houses working memory. Its orbitofrontal circuit manages emotional impulses in socially appropriate ways for productive behaviors including empathy, altruism, interpretation of facial expressions. Stroke in this area typically releases foul language and fatuous behavior patterns [bolding mine].

My argument today is that Drumpf and his supporters have either not developed their frontal lobes, or they have developed them, but are unable to use them. Their amygdalae are in charge, causing them to respond unthinkingly to perceived threats without the calming influence of the orbitofrontal circuit. This inability to counter the constant screaming of “Danger, Will Robinson!” makes them extremely susceptible to manipulation by other like-minded people, who deeply understand the constant state of anxiety in which these primitive brains exist.

In other words…they are stupid. And because they’re stupid, they’re evil.

Think about the words bolded in the quote above. Emotional impulses are managed by the frontal lobe in societally appropriate ways. So if you are, say, a candidate for President, and you get exposed as a sexual predator – indicted by your own words on a video tape, and then by the testimony of 12 women who back your words up – a socially acceptable response would be, of course, to apologize, sincerely. (A TRULY acceptable response would be to quit the race in shame. But as Prolix has demonstrated all-too-convincingly, the Mango Meerkat doesn’t do shame.) As we know, apologies were not forthcoming, and this stunned most of America. How could a man who aspired to the highest office in the land be incapable of understanding how disgusted we were by his remarks about women, and his behavior towards them? Well, the joke was on us. As Drumpf said, he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and he wouldn’t lose any votes. That’s because his voters are incapable of empathy, which is a frontal lobe enhancement they lack. They don’t care about anything except themselves, and trying to manage through their anxiety, minute by minute, day by day. Der Trumperer himself knows all about this, because he is similarly stupid, and evil.

Yes, I know that evil people can, allegedly, be smart. Bush’s Brain, KKKarl Rove, was touted as a Machiavellian genius. Granny-starving 1% fellator Paul Ryan is supposed to be a conservative policy wonk. And Dick Cheney, founding member of the manifestly dastardly Project for the New American Century, originally argued against the invasion of Iraq because it would cause the country to break apart into warring factions, empower Iran and allow the rise of Al-Qaeda. In your own life, perhaps you know Republicans who have jobs requiring a high degree of intelligence, yet still believe that Alex Jones’ InfoWars is a reliable source of information, there is such a thing as “alternative facts,” and the “lamestream media” is victimizing white Christian males by promoting “political correctness” which prevents them from saying “Merry Christmas” every year. At least anecdotally, this doesn’t square with my assertion that evil is stupid, does it?

First of all, these alleged evil geniuses aren’t really that intelligent. What they are, and this is really important to realize, is willing to go to lengths that we more evolved creatures are not, due to that d*mned empathy and altruism endowed upon us by our frontal lobes. The Roverers and Cheneys of the world develop elaborate schemes to alleviate their constant anxiety and sense of persecution; when they’ve got enough power, people like Ryan take it to an incredible extreme, elevating his own security and comfort over the health and welfare of tens of millions of people. Their inability to regulate their own emotions appropriately also leads to an inability to recognize reality, and to prefer “alternate facts” that play into their overall sense that everyone is out to get them. Bill O’Reilly must be right, because their amygdalae tell them so!

This is a form of stupidity that only a shock to the system can alleviate, such as, perhaps, the threat of removal of life-saving health care – whether it be Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security or the ACA. Again, these people are too stupid to “get” what Republicans are about, because they have no empathy, no ability to put themselves in someone else’s shoes. Their lack of a developed frontal lobe also prevents them from “adapt[ing] strategies to accommodate new data,” so, they aren’t great at changing their minds either.

What in the world should we do with these people? It depends on whom you ask. Some Democrats think they are desperately needed in order to win the next set of elections in 2018. Some pundits think they are the “real Americans” we should all be courting. I think we should let them be, because Drumpf and his friends are very busy curing them of their evil stupidity by trying to deprive them of health care, education and economic security.

While we wait and watch them learn, we can show off our evolved frontal lobes by resisting the stupid, evil agenda being promulgated by the Rethuglican Party. Because that’s the amazing thing about these seemingly powerful men and women – inside, they’re all anxious animals trying to decide whether to fight or flee, and standing up to them makes them run like scared rabbits. Let’s peacefully help them make the right choice, and run them out of town on a rail.

This is an open thread.

Some good news to start your day folks! Chris Cillizza is leaving Washington Post to join CNN. It’s a perfect fit for his idiocy. Bye bye!!!

Great post MB. Perhaps we would all be better off if all these dolts allowed the “flight” side win out.

Just as an aside, trying to dig herself out of yet another hole about Obama wiretapping when she bleated about microwave cameras, Kelly Conjob said to Chris Cuomo, “I’m not Inspector Gadget.” Well, she might not be, but she is a reasonable facsimile.

Kellyanne Conjob

That photo of Conjob, kneeling on Rump’s couch, taking a photo for Putin on her microwave is hilarious.

Good post MB, undeveloped lobes or self-entitled Cro-Magnon man.

CBO projects that 24 million people would lose their health insurance under TrumpCare. 24,000,000.

Ms Pessimism here. What is starting to worry me is that the only way 45 supporters are going to “snap out of it” is if the country collapses and they literally feel the pain of the consequences of their actions (not that they will feel in any way responsible for said pain). I am envisioning a country where the govt is decentralized because of the “deconstruction of the administrative state,” i.e., Bannonization, and any attempt to herd those 50 cats would probably end in mucho bloodshed (Negan is that you?). Any social services, law enforcement, civil rights protections, food, drug or environmental safety, you name it, will be at the discretion of whomever controls the state where you live. Once the Federal government is knocked off its axis, we will be ripe for invasion and/or plunder by outside sources as well as those that have been gnawing on us from the inside for decades. IF we are ever in a position to have another “free and open” national election, the next non-repub will win in a landslide (Goddess, no, not Bernie!). Who could possibly put Humpty Dumpty back together again? Certainly, no woman we know. Yet another kick in Hillary’s lady parts to top it all off.

Ready for rescue by the nearest optimist, circling the drain here. Please send help.

@5: Does anyone who didn’t vote for Hillary even care?

@6 – Well, they are already snapping out of it – you see them at the town halls. This health care debacle cuts right to the heart of who they are. Ultimately, most of them rely on what Ryan and his fellow stupid evildoers call “entitlements” to live. They feel they deserve these, as superior white people (just saying! don’t agree at all). The fact that Drumpf is going to let Congress take those away has shocked them into awareness. But I agree, there is going to be a lot of pain before we get out of this horrible mess. Hang in there, Cats! We’re here for you.

I find this hilarious and sad. Obama is still clinging, bitterly, to the idea that he can be “post-partisan” and still save the Democratic Party he destroyed.

What a complete joke this man is. How did he even get anything done? I’ll bet Congress did a lot more of the work than he gave them credit for.

@8, thanks madamab! Blowing up the federal government has made me a wreck on so many levels (imagine Munch’s The Scream). This site is a tether to my sane(er) self!

@8, I’ve had more than enough of Obama and his bipartisanship or “post-partisan”-ship (aka -shit) thinking. Thank you for Trump. Not.

He should have shut the eff up back in ’07 and made way for the far better candidate.

Yes, I am bitter about having the next goddess-knows how many years screwed up for me and millions of others.

Okay, I just heard a miner say he only cares about WV, he wants his mining job back and FREE healthcare and that’s what 45 promised him. Another miner just thanked SANDERS for signing a bill that helped miners. Senator from the NE (Bernie) cares more than his own senator (McConnell). Think I am going to be ill.

FYI, on CNN now, a special report on Putin and basicly why he hates Hillary.

@8 No one is surprised that Obama is still pandering to the right. The Gallup link in that article says Michelle left office with a 68% approval rating while Hillary left with 56%. Yeah it’s not hard to leave with a high approval rate if you have expended zero political capital, as Hillary did trying to get Healthcare For All.

Michelle Obama didn’t rely on political support on Capitol Hill, billions of dollars in the federal budget, or the vast apparatus of the White House to achieve her goals.

Is that suppose to be a dig at Hillary?

Also, Gallup says O left with a higher approval than Bill.(58 vs 57) Then at the end of the article it says O will leave in he ‘mid-fifties’. 58 is not mid fifties. I remember other polls showing Clinton leaving with well over 60. Interesting that Gallup started their favorable/unfavorable polling in 1992 – just in time for the Clintons.

That particular poll says they used 70% cellphone and 30% landlines. If it had been 50/50 or even 60/40 those #s would be quite different. There was no such cellphone polling back in the nineties, to my knowledge.

@cats3: Not all of the W.Va folks are so stupid as to not know what’s gonna happen. Here’s article to check out. Yes there are some Trump voters who thought “well he’s not really gonna do that is he?”. The NP who is the focus of the story was not a Trump supporter.

Oh and McConnell is from Ky. The two from W.Va are Joe Manchin (half-way D) and Shelly Moore Capito (R). She, by the way is against the Repub bill because of what it does to medicaid.

@7 Cats, if you check out the TrumpRegrets link in madamab’s post (watch them learn) there’s also some links there of people scared to death they are going to lose their insurance. It all boils down to – Trump told so many lies during the campaign, they thought he was lying about that, too. Hilarious that so many people on that thread, are mainly mad at Trump for not locking Hillary up. heads

I noticed a banner on the screen on FOX today that said Bill O’Reilly’s show was going to be about “The Clinton-Russia Connection”. Man, they are getting desperate.

@15, thanks Fredster I will read the article tonight. I thought the second miner praising Sanders was from KY and I thought he said McConnell by name. Didn’t McConnell also state in no uncertain terms that mining jobs would NOT be coming back? It was that Hayes special tonight (I was waiting for Rachel).

@16, GAgal, are those trumpregrets legit? I thought I read somewhere that they were suspect. If real, do these people bitch to their congress critters? Will they still vote Repub (against their interests) in every other election from here to eternity? Do they still think 45 was a better choice than our Hillary? No need to answer, in my little world, once a shithead, always a shithead.

@17, say what now??????? Is that to “balance” out the special Shadow said CNN was doing (@13)?

@18: Yeah McConnell said after the election that “sorry, the govt can’t help to bring back coal jobs – it’s a private industry decision”, or words very similar. And yep it’s so perfect that they say this afterwards.

I didn’t see the Hayes/Sanders thing because : Chris Hayes/ Bernie Sanders. It’s possible they had someone from Ky there.

I did catch Shelly Capito in an interview on one news show and she was very emphatic about the medicaid thing. She knows if medicaid is block-granted to the states that many, many people will lose their eligibility for it.

LOL Trump ‘un-followed’ Joe Schmoe and Meeka. Someone must have taken his phone away if he had no comment about that.

Liberal Redneck Trae Crowder on Trumpcare. Note: adult words and themes used.

@23 Damn dude dun and gone moved to Santa Monica!! Traitor!! Godless liberal hippie freak!

@23: LOL! Yep he done moved to the land of milk and honey.

The letters to the editor in my local paper have been strangely silent with no Trump supporters lately, but I knew this guy wouldn’t be gone long. He always ends his letters the same. (sorry so long)

“Just when you start to have real hope in keeping our country out of the hands of socialists and communists, Obama ramps up his hate. If anyone thinks the Obamas, Jarretts and Clintons are not out to destroy our way of life, they are wrong.

A few things you don’t hear are four names that were ready to testify against the Clintons and the Democratic party: Seth Rich, John Ashe, Victor Thorn and Shawn Lucas. These are all men who, between June and August of 2016, were murdered mysteriously as they were about to testify against the Clintons and their criminal enterprise. Please look it all up and read about it yourself and don’t forget Vince Foster, the Clinton’s good friend.

What Obama is trying to do to President Trump is no less than sedition. Valerie Jarrett is moving in with them so they try to hide everything that they pull to keep control of the government. Jarrett’s daughter is now employed by CNN as a justice department correspondent, with absolutely no credentials or knowledge.

The so-called main stream media could all be named as co-conspirators in seditious and treasonous activities. We must support our President in every way possible. You may lose some friends, or even family, but they have to open their eyes to see what’s happening.

Obama is afraid to get out of Washington. He is the typical wannabe tyrant that is really a coward. It is time to take the fight to the likes of Schumer, Pelosi and even people like Graham and other Republican obstructionists.

When you see a story that pops up against Trump’s cabinet or him, dig into it to look for the truth.

Fifty percent of our youth think they will have college debt forgiven. How about four years of military service and get your education? The colleges are just breeding grounds for hate and intolerance toward the conservative right. Keep your powder dry!”

Here’s a little nugget that passed through the House with no coverage by the media. It will be folded into Trumpcare.

A little-noticed bill moving through Congress would allow companies to require employees to undergo genetic testing or risk paying a penalty of thousands of dollars, and would let employers see that genetic and other health information.

Giving employers such power is now prohibited by legislation including the 2008 genetic privacy and nondiscrimination law known as GINA. The new bill gets around that landmark law by stating explicitly that GINA and other protections do not apply when genetic tests are part of a “workplace wellness” program.

A small yellow robot submarine, called Boaty McBoatface after a competition to name a new polar research ship backfired, is being sent on its first Antarctic mission.

The name it was given came in the wake of a campaign by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) that asked members of the public to suggest names for its new polar research ship.

When the former BBC Radio Jersey presenter James Hand jokingly suggested Boaty McBoatface, it quickly became the most popular choice and the name won the vote by a huge majority.

@25: How can you do that to yourself trying to read that stuff GAgal?

**edited to try have that make sense**

@26 So, while outside contractors who run the wellness programs would be able to see the employees name and condition, the employers will not see the name?

While the information returned to employers would not include workers’ names, it’s not difficult, especially in a small company, to match a genetic profile with the individual.

So what’s the point? If one employee tends toward heart disease are all employees going to have to do cardio rehab? It sounds as much like a marketing campaign for medical related companies as much as anything else. So much for the days when employer provided insurance was considered a benefit.

@28, oh that guy cracks me up. Generally someone will call him out the net week. I do worry though, he’s gonna go postal someday.

@25> Bananas! Bonkers! Oy.

@29: Well if you don’t participate in the “wellness” programs the companies sponsor it could cost you:

The ACA allowed them to charge employees 30 percent, and possibly 50 percent, more for health insurance if they declined to participate in the “voluntary” programs, which typically include cholesterol and other screenings; health questionnaires that ask about personal habits, including plans to get pregnant; and sometimes weight loss and smoking cessation classes.

And in rules that Obama’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issued last year, a workplace wellness program counts as “voluntary” even if workers have to pay thousands of dollars more in premiums and deductibles if they don’t participate.

That was under ACA.

If an employer has a wellness program but does not sponsor health insurance, rather than increasing insurance premiums, the employer could dock the paychecks of workers who don’t participate.

The privacy concerns also arise from how workplace wellness programs work. Employers, especially large ones, generally hire outside companies to run them. These companies are largely unregulated, and they are allowed to see genetic test results with employee names.

And you can bet the info will get back to the companies.

Hey DYB! Are you getting hammered with the snow yet?

Graham and McCain’s comments about the DOJ’s cooperation about the wire tapping.

Meanwhile, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, who also made a request to the Justice Department alongside fellow Judiciary Committee member Sheldon Whitehouse, D-Rhode Island, said he hasn’t heard back from the agency.

“I’m getting very ill-tempered over this,” the South Carolina senator told reporters. “I expect them to take some time, but Judiciary has control over the FBI–oversight. So I have said, OK, let’s keep the committee process in place, regular order, so if the FBI runs over to the Intel committee and they testify there, and they don’t respond to my letter, I think that’s a mistake, because the FBI is under our jurisdiction.”

Graham said he’ll give “them a little more time” but warned that (FBI Director James) Comey ought to respond to the letter.

“You’ll run afoul of the Judiciary Committee. If I were you, I wouldn’t do that,” he said. “Director Comey, trying to give you a little advice here.”

The Repug’s Workplace Wellness Programs: Ah, you have a 30% chance of getting X type of cancer? Well, look at that, your performance review just got worse. Hmmm, you answered that your parents both had high BP? You’re now on our list of who to let go next month.

@36: And gawd forbid they find out about that sister who had breast cancer.

With all the noise about the explosive diarrhea that is Trump/Ryan Care, this story has flown just below the treetops and under the radar.

Young Jared Kushner, in his first big boy transaction for his family’s company after Krispy Kreme sent Daddy Kushner to the big house, was for 666 Fifth Avenue. He badly overpaid for it. Long story short, they have labored under the debt service and have had to refinance to keep it afloat.

Then a strange thing happened: A sweetheart of a deal materializes as if from some magic fortune cookie. The suitor in this deal is none other than Anbang Insurance Co. from China. Anbang is rumored to be a government vehicle.

The deal is forgiveness of 80% of an outstanding Kushner loan, $400 million that looks like a “John payment”, and a retention of commercial rental percentage.

Normal humans don’t get this kind of deal. You can bet when the Chinese President Xi comes a’visitin’ he’s going to evoke a “Sequoia woodie” from Kushner and Trump cause he’s money on hoof.

In any event, you can read about it here:

These people are just shakedown artists in nice suits. The are common thieves. I’m thinking the whole grand scenario was to put Kushner in a position of power — forget Dolt 45 — it was to get Kushner to run foreign policy.

@38: Caught part of that on Maddow. Gawd, just open the doors at Treasury and bring in the armored cars.

I don’t know if everyone heard about Steve King’s tweet ‘we can’t restore our civilization with someone’s else’s babies.’ Cuomo is pretty good here.

@38 Huh…

Anbang would pay a hefty price for both sections of the 666 Fifth Ave. project but score its first U.S. real estate investment of the year. The company’s ties to the Chinese government are sufficiently unclear that former President Barack Obama declined to stay at the Waldorf after Anbang bought it because of fears of espionage. Now Anbang will be business partners with in-laws of the First Family.

I’m trying to remember something in the Steele dossier that mentioned distractions and deflections from the Trump campaign was to steer away from the biggest grift of all – his deals with China.

Got this at dailykos. Have no idea who about the guy who tweeted it, but HuffPo has the video. Ellison questioned by The Young Turds-I mean Young Turks.

@42: Well, anyone who has bad words for Bernie or his supporters is okay with me. Main reason I did not even bother with Hayes tonight. I mean Sanders, a town hall in W.Va? Really? WTF!

@40: I read about that. Iowa totally deserves him.

@43 Yeah, Sanders in W.Va. Where a yoouuuge percent of his voters said they planned to vote for whatever Republican won their primary in the general, regardless. Cross over voting by Repubs to bring Hillary down. Period. Hope he’s proud.

MB, I love your brilliant post! I’ve said for years that people that are evil are also stupid, although I never made the connection to the frontal lobe of the brain. It makes perfect sense! Thanks for this interesting article!

Well, Stella is here! Easily 4 inches of snow here in Cortlandt Manor NY. We’re supposed to get between 12-18 inches.

Re the corporations’ opportunity to penalize people for not doing what they consider healthy, I did write a play about that once. I knew something like that would be in the ACA. Maybe I will re-publish next Monday.

I hope you ‘Shinners on the Right Coast are surviving the snow storm. Good grief, we’re having crazy weather. It was 90 in L.A. yesterday.

@47, Do!

@25, GAgal, I can’t believe your paper posted that letter. Thanks Fox, Breitbart, Drudge, Info Wars and all the other sewers out there.

Just leaving this here:

@40, I don’t like how he said it, but I agree with the point on assimilation. I don’t know how prevalent it is, but I understand there are enclaves where the individuals within that group just want to transplant their culture here and have no interest in assimilating, peacefully coexisting or integrating their culture with ours, especially when it comes to complying with our laws; honor killings, genital mutilation, child labor, child brides, human trafficking and animal abuse/exploitation, to name a few, ain’t how we roll. I don’t want every American to think alike, look alike or worship alike. I just don’t want one group’s culture or belief system to override our basic values and protections even if they are always a work in progress.

Come to think of it, the Repubs are looking like one such enclave. Greed, power and corruption are their gods, their pursuit of money trumps our laws, our rights, our Constitution, our very lives.

The snow is a dug. It’s already been downgraded for NYC. But at least I got a snow day out of it!

Here’s something to warm your heart:

#snow is a DUD.

@38, @Khannoisseur has been tweeting about Kushner’s yuuuge indebtedness and the 666 property bribery–er, business transaction — foro a while. So really good to see it get some MSM exposure.

And now more — just saw this:

@53: Awwwww! Thanks — that is heartwarming. Good to see.

238, Awk! Apologies! I didn’t read to the end of your comment (bad reader) before I went hunting how to spell “khanoisseur” (which I see I misspelled by making it 2 ‘n’s) and got distracted by reading my TL, then saw the tweet w/bloomberg info, and …. gawd, how sophomoric of a screwup.

@42, really good to hear Ellison put them in their place!

Alex Jones is challenging Alec Baldwin to a bareknuckle fight because he wants to “break his neck.” Don’t forget: Dump gets his news from Jones.

@55 & 57, what is really crazy, nutzoid, no sense-making about this whole deal is that they are going from a reasonably performing office space to luxury condos. Luxury condos at a time when the market is already saturated. The problem wasn’t the office space, the problem was that Jared massively overpaid during his first time at the rodeo. It was just too much to originally pay for the property, then they had to refinance, and now they are completely “zeroing out” their agitated partner with a shady Chinese insurance company.

This screams for a deep dive by the Committee on Foreign Investment, but it is now festooned with Trumpanzees. And there are no U.S. Attorneys to take up a review. Welcome to the swamp!

@53, soooo sweet. They were meant to be together.

@55, they all need to go to jail but I suspect Hillary would go to jail before any of them, because as we all know, she is so much worse. It is their corrupt system after all and no one is stopping them; then again there is Preet, the Sheriff of Wall Street. Rachel implied that demanding to be fired bought him an extra 24 hours with the files…..

@60, charming, violence always is the go to position for Neanderthals like Jones. Not only is he unhinged he is a huge lump of a man. I wonder if that “challenge” could be construed as a threat? He would pulverize me!

@60, 62, Is this why Baldwin said he’s not going to be playing Dump for much longer? Cats, agree with you, it does sound like a threat. I wonder if Baldwin could get a restraining order. I would love it if some of these wealthy celebs (& journalists, politicians & others) would start suing these RWNJ’s for slander/libel/whatever. Tie up their money and time. Go on the offense. I think Hillary put up with way too much shit.

@53, that was adorable!

@55, sounds like Kushner is as dumb & evil as his dear FIL. He fits right in with Dumps circle of crooks and traitors.

The confirmation hearings for Neil Gorsuch begin Monday. Wonder what the Dems will do…

@66, they better fight this.

@53: That was just soooo sweet.

Congrats on your snow day DYB! Enjoy it.

Fromm the Salon piece:

Question: Do you think it is fair to say that Trump and his cadre are traitors and that they should be held accountable based on those criteria?

Nance’s reply: If we use the rhetorical definition of treason, the common vernacular definition of treason, and it turns out that anyone at any time in this campaign was aware of Russia’s operations, decided to use Russia’s operations and coordinate with Russia’s operations, that right there would be treason. That would be betraying the trust of your nation.

That Salon piece was really good.

Naughty Navy officers charged with corruption.

During a port visit by the Blue Ridge to Manila in May 2008, for example, five of the Navy officers attended a “raging multi-day party, with a rotating carousel of prostitutes,” at the Shangri-La Hotel, according to the indictment. The group allegedly drank the hotel’s entire supply of Dom Perignon champagne and rang up expenses exceeding $50,000, which Francis covered in full.

On another port visit by the Blue Ridge to Manila in February 2007, Francis allegedly hosted another sex party for officers in the MacArthur Suite of the Manila hotel. During the party, “historical memorabilia related to General Douglas MacArthur were used by the participants in sexual acts,” according to the indictment.

So Rachel Maddow just tweeted:

BTW, I already wrote tomorrow’s post. If Maddow has Trump’s tax returns, it won’t be covered in my post because I can’t keep up with the news (which is something I say every week and it’s true every week.)

OMG!! Rachel will be must see tonight.

Sorry DYB. It’s nuts how quickly things change in the Drumpf era. Obama was slow as a damn Ent.

Maddow is clarifying the taxes are from 2005.

She got nothing.

@76 – hahaha!

Hubby also said “maybe Donald leaked it.” It’s hardly revelatory. Your post is safe!

Bill Kristol is right:

Yes, Dump leaked it. The two pages say: “Client Copy.”

2005 taxes…leaker needs to get something closer to 2016.

Good thing I didn’t hear about the tax return hoopla until getting off work just now. Much ado about not very much. If one got the entire return that would be interesting, and recent returns very much so.

Let’s see just how fast that shiny disco ball can spin — 14M losing insurance, 24K deaths because of it, Comey releasing a statement tomorrow, Kushner getting a $400M fortune cookie, and two days before Dolt 45 will have to face the press in front of a woman he said had “ruined Germany.” Avoiding bankruptcy and taxes were a lot easier than this.

My guess is the spin of the shiny ball is about to .come to an abrupt halt.

If only reason for Dump to hide his tax return is so he can lie about his worth – then we’re screwed because not being worth $10 billion won’t get him impeached.

Sheer coincidence, riiiiight.

The coincidences are piling up.

Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev last week disavowed any contact with President Donald Trump. But speculation again was stoked when his state-of-the-art yacht Anna sat anchored in the British Virgin Islands on Friday night and another equally resplendent luxury liner, the Sea Owl, sidled up, according to a website that tracks the movement of yachts.

The owner of the dark-hulled yacht? President Donald Trump’s biggest financial supporter and Breitbart News moneyman, Robert Mercer.

Rybolovlev has repeatedly said he has never met Trump or had any dealings with anyone in his campaign. The oligarch did purchase a Palm Beach mansion from the developer in 2008 through a family trust, Rybolovlev’s spokespeople say.

Within days of the election this past year, Trump’s and Rybolovlev’s jets were parked on the airport apron in Charlotte, N.C., on Nov. 3. Trump had a campaign rally that day in Concord, N.C. Rybolovlev said he was there for business. The two planes were also in Las Vegas at the same time in October.–politics/yachts-trump-financial-backer-russian-oligarch-seen-close-together/gI074W3JLqvEYrQ0hm9zlN/

The Mercer/Rybovlev yacht rendezvous was the most interest info of the night!

Plus Lawrence O’Donnell’s burn at Melania. Did anyone notice it? O’Donnell read out that there is $1 million income in salary on tax returns and that’s unusual for someone like Trump. Tax guy said that may be Melania’s salary for being a model. O’Donnell sneered: She was never in the $1 million league. OOOOOHHHHH BURN!

@89> That’s funny!

@90, that one got a good laugh out of me. And you know that Trump goon is furious about it, because a) he’s insecure, and b) thinks size matters.

@91, We’ve heard more than enough about Trump voters, and eff them all.

@91, I think we need more reports on why Chuck Todd is still employed and not back in the tree baking cookies.

Help me remember where I left this if I need it later:

@88: Oh two snaps for Lawrence!

@91: Charles Pierce has had plenty to say about these “journalists” who think there needs to be more reporting on those people. (eyeroll here)
