The Widdershins

La La Land

As I sat down to write Wednesday morning’s post on Tuesday night, I realized by the time it published it would already be out of date. The dizzying speed with which Bannon and Trump are trashing our democracy is impossible to process and stay up to speed on. In just 10 days they’ve managed to create multiple constitutional criseses [sic]. Aside from the original sin of conflict of interest we don’t know the full extent of because Trump has not and will not release his tax returns (WikiLeaks says they plan to find them and release them… the irony of that can not be avoided, to paraphrase Angus King’s comment to steinJames Coffey at a Senate hearing after Comey said he does not comment on ongoing investigations when asked about FBI’s investigation of Russian interference in our elections). But since then Trump/Bannon’s multiple executive orders, that anathema he and other Republicans screamed at Obama about for 8 years, have created nothing but chaos in our system. The biggest one, of course, was the refugee executive order. Throwing people’s lives into chaos by refusing previously vetted refugees into the country, but also by refusing people with green cards into the country, they revealed – well, it’s hard to tell. Incompetence or malice? Perhaps a combination of the two. Bannon and another Trump aide Stephen Miller wrote the executive order and forced it to be signed without consulting with any other agency, or even Congressional Republicans. Though Congressional aides helped write it….without telling their bosses. That is a big deal. I wish I could see the expression on McTurtle’s face when he learned of his aides secrecy. It would be funny if the secrecy also wasn’t terrifying.Senate Luncheons

To add to the chaos, Border Patrol defied a judge’s ruling that people detained be allowed to see a lawyer. That is a very big deal as well. We now have the judicial branch being openly defied by the administration and part of its security force. Federal Marshalls would have to go in and force Border Patrol to follow court’s orders. Imagine how that would play out. Because I can’t.

Which brings me to this: for many months now Democrats have been waiting and begging Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell to save us from Trump. Throughout the insanity of the campaign Ryan and McConnell became almost sane. But in truth they were just sane compared to Trump and that’s not a fair comparison. In fact, Ryan and McConnell are fucking scum. We have been waiting for them and the Republican Party to come in and paul-ryansave us all from Trump. That didn’t happen during the election. The Republican Party never turned on Trump, no matter how awful he became. Even John McCain (when will be get used to the fact that the war hero died when McCain ran for President?) didn’t fully turn against him. McCain just refused to talk about him, which isn’t the same thing. So no, McCain and Lady Graham won’t save us either. The endless articles being written about how Trump will alienate Republicans enough that they will turn on him are as tiresome as the endless articles about what white men want. It’s nonsense. Nothing Trump does will ever make the Republican establishment turn on him and impeach him. Nothing. McConnell and Ryan are not biting their tongues. They are not cowards who just need a little bit of encouragement and courage. They are not spineless – they are soulless. They want everything Trump is doing. They might be annoyed at some of his methods. But they want what Trump wants. That’s the truth we have to face.trump-nixon

So where does that leave us? I honestly have no idea. I’m sorry for the downer post. I’m sure the comments that follow over the next couple of days will fill us with even more dread as Bannon/Trump continue their destruction of America and the world around us. I do fear, however, that Trump’s Presidency will not end peacefully. I don’t know how big the violence will be or who it will be directed against, but I think that is the only way this can end.

Please tell me that I’m wrong!

Right there with you DYB. There will be blood, either here or on foreign soil or both. What horrifies me is that half the country seems pleased with him, the other half appalled. Our enemies feel vindicated and our friends are stunned or pissing their pants. Trump is getting more infantile as each day passes; he will either get propped up like Reagan or replaced with Pence. We won’t ever be the same country with either outcome. And, I’M TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT!

Rethuglicans change rules about quorum and advance nominations of Price and Mnuchin to the full Senate vote.

And that’s how Republicans play the game and follow rules.

He’s a fucking idiot.

Why not take a break from all the negativity and learn about each other? 😃

1. Who are you named after? There is a literal, fascist administration in office in the United States.

2. Last time you cried? Resist it, unerringly, with all your strength.

3. Soda or water? A woman, scheduled to be deported, attempted suicide in the airport.

4. What is your favorite lunch meat? Donate to the ACLU.

5. Longest relationship? Law enforcement is illegally enforcing the ban, even though a stay has been issued by the court system.

6. Do you still have your tonsils? Soon, we won’t have the courts to depend on, either.

7. Would you bungee jump? Get your news from Twitter, not Facebook. FB manipulates what you see. Getting an account is easy. Ask me who to follow.

8. How many years at current job? Stand up for minorities and women’s health and freedom of the press.

9. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off? Make sure to take care of your mental health in this tumultuous and stressful time.

10. Roller coasters? Punching unapologetic actual Nazis is illegal and you definitely should do it every chance you get.

11. Favorite ice cream? Many of the Democrats are folding. Keep the heat on them, keep writing and calling them.

12. Favorite thing to do? This is not normal. Don’t act like it is. You can’t ignore this.

13. Football or baseball? Steve Bannon has said himself he is a Leninist who wants to destroy and remake society, and he is manipulating the POTUS to sow chaos as a pretext for crushing civil liberties and seizing permanent power.

14. Leggings or Jeans? Install the Signal app to make sure your messages are end-to-end encrypted and stop using FB messenger, Google Voice/Hangouts, and texting, which are easy to spy on.

15. What are you listening to? Keep up with everything going on, do not let up.

16. Favorite Color? Prepare for the increased repression of American citizens. It is coming.

17. Tattoos? Keep in mind that he is constantly lying to us. Do not believe anything he says. If he says the sky is blue, look up and check it, yourself, or save time and assume that he’s lying.

18. Married? They still haven’t fixed the pipes in Flint, Michigan.

19. Hair color? Stop being complicit.

20. Eye color? Stop being obedient.

21. Favorite to eat? Stop fooling yourself that you won’t have to fight somehow.

22. Scary movies or happy endings? Stop being scared. Stand up for what you believe in.

23. Android or iPhone? America is a country of immigrants. We are better because of our diversity.

24. Chevy, Ford or Buick? We will not re-center the white working class at the expense of minorities, women, and LGBTQ+ in the hopes of poaching voters. Elevate people less privileged than you who are being actively repressed.

25. Favorite holiday? It will get worse. You are stronger than you think, and you can take it.

26. Beer or wine? You have to. We don’t have any other options.

27. Night owl or morning? Your children and grandchildren will remember you by what you did during these years.

28. Favorite day of the week? Dissent is American. *All* enemies, foreign *and domestic.*

Come on….someone do this with me. 😄 Let’s have some fun, take a break from negativity and learn about each other.

These people are freaks:

@4, Love the double commentary btw!

Drumpf has taken off on Air Force One to an undisclosed destination. White House won’t say where he’s going.

@8, that sounds ominous. What the hell is going on?

Never mind. It looks like he went to Dover AFB because the remains of the Navy Seal that was just killed are being flown in.

And he’s going to make the scene & people will believe he really cares. And I am sick to the core of my being

@10, drat, I was hoping the CIA renditioned his ass to a very black site…..I read that Yemen op went south real fast and a leak is suspected. Can’t wait to see what Rachel reports on tonight, so much to choose from.

Tamron Hall leaves NBC after Megyn Kelly gets her time slot. Too bad, I really like her.

Some staffers came to Hall and Roker’s defense and questioned the 9 a.m decision. Observers writing for web sites like Jezebel and The Daily Caller drew attention to the racial context of the change — two black hosts being replaced by a white woman who spent a decade at a conservative cable news channel.

“This news is more than disappointing, since the two most prominent black faces on” the “Today” show “are losing out to accommodate a white conservative with a history of questionable rhetoric with regard to race relations in America,” Paula Rogo wrote for Essence.com.

Has Trump said anything about the 8 year old American girl that was killed in that raid?

cats said: And, I’M TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT!

Amen to that!

@14,,GA: he probably doesn’t consider her “American.” Isn’t she the daughter of the American-born terrorist Obama droned?

@4: Now that’s cute DYB! I like it. Don’t know if I’m gonna play right now, but I like the idea of it. Very clever.

Hope this hasn’t already been posted:

Hillary Clinton Re-emerges, Announces New Book, Wellesley Speech

Hillary Clinton will reflect on her loss to Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election as well her life in politics in general in a new collection of personal essays set to be published this fall, Simon & Schuster announced Wednesday.

It has a tendency to do that. 😉

Wow, Megyn Kelly replacing two black hosts on NBC. Wow.

@26:Leaving both NBC and MSNBC. Damned shame, just to make room for the Ice Princess.

@18, 20 million for that shitty “beauty” pageant? Ugh, I hate pageants. Always have.

@27, I haven’t watched nbc for a long time, but that’s a real shame.

@25, trump, bannon and kushner, threatening to invade a formerly friendly nation on our border? Again, what could possibly go wrong with that? I’m sure the military would be thrilled to fight brutal drug cartels whom I’m guessing don’t follow the Geneva conventions…

DYB, I’m witcha 110%. Great post. I always feel better after I hear you kick the wheels and take some names. This breakneck change the subject every 15 minutes of Bump (Bannon and Trump) will soon be a thing of the past — let the first scandal surface and they won’t be able to shake the shiny object and tease the doggy treat.

@12, cats, this Yemeni raid was what I was talking about a few days ago. Something is not right about it. Here’s what I think.

Bannon wanted this raid and the Muslim ban to happen last weekend. My bet is this — he said to the Pentagon what do you have in the works. They said, “Well, we have a raid planned in Yemen and we might get a big time bomb maker.” For publicity, Bannon got Trump to green light it before it was ready to go.

Seals don’t make the mistakes that occurred here. Something stinks. I am heartened by the media pushing on this. They sense it too. Something isn’t right. Someone is going to leak the truth. It won’t be today or maybe this week, but someone will leak because this sticks in the craw of professional soldiers.

Perhaps this is my overly active sense of paranoia, but Trump going out to Dover might just be damage control. It has to be in his interest because he wouldn’t do it for any other reason. Lord Commander Marmalade is soulless.

Two articles on the Yemeni raid. A WaPo article, and then one from The Guardian.

And no link from me but the Fox storyline was this: Yemen anti-terror raid turned up intel ‘treasure trove,’ sources say. Yeah, okay.

Judge Neil Gorsuch has been front and center as Oklahoma’s death penalty process has been repeatedly called into question in recent years, hearing key cases at the US Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit over the state’s handling of executions — and siding with the government.

Just a few months ago, Gorsuch — now President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court — ruled against the estate of a man who was executed in one of the worst botched lethal injections in US history. Gorsuch and two other judges ruled that it was an “innocent misadventure” or an “isolated mishap,” but not cruel and unusual punishment.

In that case, Clayton Lockett’s estate sued the state of Oklahoma for constitutional violations in his 43-minute execution. Lockett was given a controversial sedative called midazolam, then two drugs that cause immense pain: a paralytic and a drug to stop the heart.

After he was injected with the drugs, Lockett raised himself on the gurney and said, “Shit is fucking with me.” Executioners had thought he was already dead.

Also, this:

The state’s attorney general, Scott Pruitt, said that some executioners were “careless, cavalier and in some circumstances dismissive of established procedures that were intended to guard against the very mistakes that occurred.” (Pruitt is now Trump’s nominee to run the Environmental Protection Agency.)

Years before these mistakes happened, Gorsuch was one of the judges who upheld the use of midazolam as an execution sedative, as well as Oklahoma’s execution procedures.

The inmates “have failed to establish that the use of midazolam in their executions, either because of its inherent characteristics or its possible negligent administration, creates a demonstrated risk of severe pain,” Judge Mary Briscoe wrote in an opinion that Gorsuch joined.

@44, awwwww!

Too bad most of us didn’t vote for a President with stamina.

Oh, wait. We did.

@46, ahem….@40.

@46: And what was it he said about HRC and stamina?

Hope that didn’t come across as too sarcastic…There is such a flood of info on the flood of Bad Things happening that it is hard to keep track of everything. I’ve certainly posted things without reloading the screen. I should have kept quiet.

Prez Orange is going to be pissed at that article — it implies that Obama had better judgment than Trump. As if there’s any doubt.

@45 And because she liked to burrow, when she got on and in the bed she kept my feet warm. LOL!

@48, funny how it keeps being shown that whatever Trump accuses others of is exactly what he himself has or does!

@50, a heater dog! I had a heater cat for a while. Ah, those rare pets who will lay at the foot of the bed as footwarmers! The current 2 who join us in bed like snuggling between us, or over my neck (possessive beast).

@49: I should have kept quiet.

Why? Your comments and thoughts are valued here.

@49, no, I should have checked before I posted the article. I hadn’t refreshed. No worries.

@52: Exactly! Something with the doxies, they love to burrow and nest.

I remember one morning getting ready for work, poured a cup of coffee and sat down to catch the local news/weather. There was this hump in Chloe’s bed. I turned the lights and tv on. I look over and see covers moving. She stuck her head out, looked at me and snorted. Then it was back down under the covers.

It was good that I was sitting down because I was laughing so hard I jiggled the cup of coffee and sloshed it around. LOL!

@54:No biggie, that happens to all of us.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/compost/wp/2017/02/01/we-cannot-possibly-confirm-judge-gorsuch-before-the-election/?postshare=4821485975149249&tid=ss_fb-bottom&utm_term=.e00c1a42a411

We should nominate someone once we have the results of a democratic election, and not a second before. President Trump of all people should be fighting to stop this immoral process. As he keeps reminding us with his accounts of millions upon millions of fraudulent votes cast, this was apparently no democratic election. How can one possibly proceed?

It is important to stand on principle regardless of the merits of the nominee, which may well be substantial.

Besides, we are still in the throes of a campaign. In fact, Trump has already gathered enough funds to begin his 2020 reelection bid — more than $7 million. The fundraising has begun. The sloganing has begun. He has sent a letter to the Federal Election Commission and everything.

In such a harshly partisan election environment, we cannot possibly proceed.

This is brilliant:

@55, bet you wished you could stick your head back under the covers too!

@59, I’m surprised they only lost one SEAL.

….wonder if any of the military and the vets are having 2nd thoughts yet….

@62: Oh hell yeah, so many times!!

@61: Gotta retweet that one.

This is from the NYT story that just went up:

With two of his closest advisers, Jared Kushner and Stephen K. Bannon, joining the dinner at the White House along with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., Mr. Trump approved sending in the Navy’s SEAL Team 6, hoping the raid early last Sunday would scoop up cellphones and laptop computers that could yield valuable clues about one of the world’s most dangerous terrorist groups. Vice President Mike Pence and Michael T. Flynn, the national security adviser, also attended the dinner.

@68,

“They kind of knew they were screwed from the beginning,” one former SEAL Team 6 official said.

…and then the Orange Asshat turns the SEAL’s body return into a photo op for himself. No. Words.

Halleluja! May we have more victories! So keep calling, writing, tweeting.

Y’all gotta check this out. It gives info on the people Stump met with concerning his SC pick. Un effin’ believable.

From Charles Pierce. I didn’t even know El Douche was supposed to go to Milwaukee.

@71: That was totally nauseating.

This morning at the National Prayer Breakfast Drumpf asked for prayers for ratings of The Apprentice.

He also said he wants to get rid of separation of church and state.

It’s astounding how the military supports Republicans.

Interesting read on Marie Le Pen’s courting of LGBT community in France. Hitler did that too, then he killed them all.

Protests in CA universities over white supremacists coming to campus’.
Of course, when it gets dark, all the crazy anarchists take over and ramp up to violence. I have a feeling this will be more and more common with El Douche in OUR house. Last night was just another day in the Bay Area. Trump is soooo hated here.

Nancy Pelosi (finally) calls Bannon a “white supremacist” during a press conference. This is a word every Democrat should be using.

@84: It’s about time someone did that.

Mr. Pundit has a good post about how Democrats (elected and voters) should be handling the Repubtards.

So, the White House turned off recording equipment during Trump’s conversation with Putin.

Rand Paul and Kellyanne are trashing Iraqi refugees who planned the Bowling Green massacre. No such thing ever happened. No such massacre. They made it up.

*sigh*

Well this should give everyone a warm, fuzzy feeling.

The National Rifle Association on Thursday evening applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for striking down a measure that would have kept guns out of the hands of people with such disorders as schizophrenia and severe anxiety.

-snip-
The regulation was introduced under the Obama administration after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

-snip-
Individuals with mental illnesses account for only 4 percent of all violence in the country.

However, a report out of the National Institute of Health suggests that up to 60 percent of perpetrators of mass shootings in the United States since 1970 displayed symptoms including acute paranoia, delusions, and depression before committing their crimes.

Lol, Fredster, I was just coming to post that.

If only we could get them to shoot Republicans.

Oh noes. She’s going to get tweeted at, bigly. Sad!

How ’bout we try this -Fredster:

@99, drat, posting links late at night again after a crazy work day….That’s in re:

Good for us! Keep it up.

We are so fk’d:

Thanks for all the great tweets and links, everyone. Loved reading the Shinner’s profiles! What a great idea that was.

Yay for Nordstrom’s. I swear this is true… I was actually in one of them today, picking up a friend for lunch, and while waiting while she was helping someone, I noticed another woman standing there, then the manager of the store approached her and introduced herself, and then the woman launched into a “I love Nordstroms and have been shopping here for years, but…can’t while you sell Trump products…etc” So I heard that they were dropping the line earlier today.

Luna, you’re on a roll tonight! Love the Trump Wars & pengy tweets! Really scared about the “limited” nuclear war options.

Laker says he saw on FB that PTSD now stands for Post-Trumpatic-Stress-Disorder. Sounds appropriate.

Rude Pundit is spot on. Wish he were running the Dem party.

Hahaha! Fredster, love that visual!

@102: I just bought some Cheetos for the Super Bowl!

@104: Can’t imagine what they want unless they are thinking of “theater nukes”, but we looked at those and had them before.

I cannot fathom the idea of a “smaller scale limited use” nuclear weapon. I don’t see that working out well at all.

The link in the tweet @104 goes to an article behind a paywall, but here’s another CQ/Rollcall article about the same thing.

Fredster, when I was young (70s or 80s) I remember reading an article in Time or Newsweek that was about a study on the feasibility of limited nuclear war. It sounded insane. Can’t believe this is being talked about again. Trump & Putin are going to end up being the worst thing that ever happened to this poor planet, and us.

annie, from the link in 112:

Critics of such an expansion say that even these less explosive nuclear weapons, which pack only a fraction of the punch of the bombs America dropped on Japan in 1945, can still kill scores of thousands of people and lead to lasting environmental damage. They worry that expanding the inventory of lower-yield warheads — and the means for delivering them — could make atomic war more thinkable and could trigger a cycle of response from adversaries, possibly making nuclear conflict more likely.

“…could make atomic war more thinkable and could trigger a cycle of response from adversaries, possibly making nuclear conflict more likely.”

That sounds extremely likely. Its pouring down rain here again. Haven’t seen rain like this in many years. Well, I have to get up in 6 hours. Must hit the sack. Catch you over the weekend.

Yeah but y’all still need the rain don’t you?

Get some zzz and see ya over the weekend.

New post upstairs.
