The problem with the Russians is that they are always fighting a world war. No matter what it is. An actual World War or the Eurovision contest. The public and the government treat the two with equal ferocity and dedication. When the Soviets formed a human shield around Stalingrad in 1943 they beat back the Nazis with the same fanaticism with which they try to defeat foreign pop singers, especially the transvestites. Wall-to-wall coverage on the news, front page headlines, celebrity coaches, personal visits and encouragements from members of the government – all the way up to Comrade Putin – it’s literally all the same thing to them. There is always an enemy at the gate, ready to destroy Mother Russia and all that is Holy about it. Sometimes the enemy carries a machine gun, sometimes a microphone. But to come in second is to come in last.

So when the mighty Soviet Union fell, something Vladimir Putin once declared to be the greatest tragedy to befall His people, it brought with it festering and oozing scars of humiliation and anger. USSR fell not because it was incapable of functioning, but because the West destroyed it.  The West – and Reagan specifically – happily embraced this view of events. But they underestimated just how deeply these events cut the Russian people.

The West – and America as its face – have always been the Enemy of Russia. As much as the Russian public is obsessed with American money, culture, fashion, etc., it also views it as a perversion of purity and righteousness which Russia represents to its people. It is very much like Gollum and The One Ring. It hungers for The West and hates it in one breath. This belief among the general public that the West generally and America specifically are always trying to destroy Russia should not be underestimated. It’s why the Russians love strongment leaders like Putin. These leaders are the forces who will protect the people from Western interference. Because the West wants all that is Russian: to take it, eat it, consume it and destroy it like it destroys everything. The West is an agent of greed and sexual perversions – and Russia is always under attack. They believe these things with the sincerity of saints.

Russia’s rejection of The Other has over the years taken on odd forms.  For example, in his day Tchaikovsky’s music was seen as too European, his embrace of Europe suspect.  The real champions of Russian music in the 19th century were The Mighty Handful, consisting of Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, Cui, Balakirev and Borodin.  They deeply resented the fact that Tchaikovsky was conservatory trained and attacked formal education of music.  Though they tolerated Tchaikovsky himself, Rimsky-Korsakov once wrote that “Tchaikovsky’s Conservatory training still constituted a considerable barrier between him and us.”   (None of the Five received a formal education in composition.)  To this day Russia – a deeply homobigoted country – refuses to acknowledge that Tchaikovsky was gay.  Russia – also a deeply racist country – refuses to discuss that Alexander Pushkin, its greatest poet, was half black.  These ideas are revolting to them, too Other.

So as we learn more details about Russian interference in American elections, we must understand that this is Russia’s war for survival. The attempt to reverse decades of what they see as humiliations at the hands of the West – and America specifically. Russia is like a Holy Land, its people its righteous pilgrims, and the barbarian Western hoardes are at the gate.

The news of Russian interference on Trump’s behalf (and they are now attempting to take down Angela Merkel too), isn’t news to anyone who paid attention before November 8th. Hillary Clinton discussed it in the 3rd Presidential debate on October 19th.

CLINTON: Well, that’s because he’d rather have a puppet as president of the United States.

TRUMP: No puppet. No puppet.

CLINTON: And it’s pretty clear…

TRUMP: You’re the puppet!

CLINTON: It’s pretty clear you won’t admit…

TRUMP: No, you’re the puppet.

CLINTON: … that the Russians have engaged in cyberattacks against the United States of America, that you encouraged espionage against our people, that you are willing to spout the Putin line, sign up for his wish list, break up NATO, do whatever he wants to do, and that you continue to get help from him, because he has a very clear favorite in this race.

So I think that this is such an unprecedented situation. We’ve never had a foreign government trying to interfere in our election. We have 17 — 17 intelligence agencies, civilian and military, who have all concluded that these espionage attacks, these cyberattacks, come from the highest levels of the Kremlin and they are designed to influence our election. I find that deeply disturbing.

WALLACE: Secretary Clinton…

CLINTON: And I think it’s time you take a stand…

TRUMP: She has no idea whether it’s Russia, China, or anybody else.

CLINTON: I am not quoting myself.

TRUMP: She has no idea.

CLINTON: I am quoting 17…

TRUMP: Hillary, you have no idea.

CLINTON: … 17 intelligence — do you doubt 17 military and civilian…

TRUMP: And our country has no idea.

CLINTON: … agencies.

TRUMP: Yeah, I doubt it. I doubt it.

CLINTON: Well, he’d rather believe Vladimir Putin than the military and civilian intelligence professionals who are sworn to protect us. I find that just absolutely…

TRUMP: She doesn’t like Putin because Putin has outsmarted her at every step of the way.

But for reasons that will spend decades trying to understand, the story never found traction in the media or among the patriotic Americans who supported Trump. John McCain and Lindsay Graham were silent. The New York Times did not cover the story above the fold of its print edition, like they covered FBI’s announcement that they were looking at Anthony Wiener’s computer with 3 stories above the fold in a single edition. I suppose we should be grateful that finally people are taking notice, although Mitch McConnell prefers not to drag Trump into it.

This was a very long game played by Putin. One really should try to admire it, if one was not the victim of it. Putin will have Trump’s election engraved on his own tombstone. “Here Lies Vladimir Putin, Wrestler of Bears, Shirtless Horseback Rider, and Conqueror of America.” Putin is making Russia Great Again. With the assistance of Julian Rapist Assange and Glenn “Leftwing Dictators are grrreat and Putin totally has nothing to do with this election” Greenwald. Bernie Bros reposting fake news stories on social media and the American news media that never met an e-mail it didn’t like to speculate about. Soviet leaders spent decades trying to bring Red Russia to Blue America. Putin has finally succeeded.  Putin has put a momentary numbing balm on Russia’s persecution mania.

Note that the color Blue in Russia represents homosexuality. That depraved Blue America has taken on the color of Red Mother Russia means so much to them. Hail Comrade Putin! We thought we would all have to learn Chinese in the new century. I suggest people start taking up Russian instead.

No seriously, where is the Democratic Party in all this?

Great post, DYB. Is that a real Time cover?

@1, yes, that is very disturbing. Everyone is wondering. They should make some kind of public statement.

Thanks for the history lesson and the debate transcript DYB. The transcript really sums up our divided nation in a nutshell, doesn’t it? How did Louis ck characterize the upcoming election, the grown ups vs the suckers and the assholes? Will the grown ups ever prevail again? I still have a scintilla of hope that Hillary will be our FDR.

Really well presented DYB. So wrong how the election went. And still no one but us seems all that concerned that Putin is America’s new chum.

Good post! And why, why, why do the Dems keep expecting the other side will do what’s fair and what’s good for the country and not just the rich? They haven’t, and they won’t — that’s exactly why they’re Republicans. Fight them!

Great and insightful post DYB.

It’s supposed that Krushchev said they would take America and bury it without every firing a shot. Thanks tRump!

we must understand that this is Russia’s war for survival.

Oh they could survive. Perhaps not as the empire Putin and others want but they could survive.

I suggest people start taking up Russian instead.

Nah. I’d never be able to learn that Cyrillic alphabet. 😳

OMG I got into a fight with a friend today who is a Bernie Bro. I actually prefer Trump supporters to Bernie Bro. Did you know that Bernie would have won against Trump and that everything is our fault, those who supported HRC, because we only care about the cult of personality and not the country?

I quit everything.

@11: Whatever your friend is smoking…it’s good.

@12> The sad part is he’s completely serious, not under the influence of anything stronger than rage and arrogance.

Tremendous, outstanding, wonderful post. I learned. If I’m learning, I’m happy and I was very happy reading your post. I particularly liked this phrase:

They believe these things with the sincerity of saints.

What a wonderful turn of phrase!

With the confirmation coming out tonight that Putin was directly involved, I’m suspecting there will be more and more leaks. Leaks about Carter Page’s meetings as well as Donnie Trump and Chatty Kelly’s meetings. If there is one agency I don’t think you should piss off it is the CIA. There will be more leaks — count on it.

By the way, haven’t heard from our friend Julian Assange — you remember him, the long-term sluggardly slugabed of the Ecuadorian embassy. Just haven’t heard from him since the election. Probably Greenwald and all the other emailphobics have forgotten about him, but they kept us safe from dastardly email and pushed us into the groping arms of Pussygrabber and shirtless PootiePoot.

This is from the case in NY about the search warrant surrounding Comey’s “reopening” of the Hillary email case eleven days before the election. This is fast becoming a Ludlum/Le Carre/Forsyth worst nightmare kind of thing. Fortunately, that barking mad Giuliani might be implicated — I’d like him to spend some quality time at Gitmo or the SuperMax prison in Colorado.

“There’s a possibility that somebody gave them false information because they wanted them to reopen the investigation,” Schoenberg tells Newsweek, likening that possibility to someone falsely telling police there were drugs in a house to prompt a police raid that terrorized the house’s occupants. He also questioned what communications Rudy Giuliani, a former Manhattan U.S. attorney, or other Trump supporters had with the FBI personnel behind the investigation. “There’s no way to know whether that actually happened without looking at the search warrant and learning what they relied on,” he says.

He added that he wants to find out who in the FBI—and which judge—signed off on the warrant. “We should find out something from this. Where it will end, it’s anybody’s guess.”

@15> Thanks Prolix!

It is interesting that the CIA is leaking these. So we have the FBI helping Trump and the CIA opposing him.

I think the fact that rogue FBI agents in NYC conspired to help Trump should be a big story. I actually vaguely know one of these men. He used to come to my gym, though some time ago switched. But we have many “friends” on Facebook in common. I always remembered him from the gym, however. “Soulless” and “humorless” would be two words to describe his demeanor.

@17, interesting. “Soulless” would be enough by itself.

Prolix, having read a bit of Russian history (not a great deal) I do believe the good folk of Rossiya-Matushka loves them a heavy-handed leader. Peter was The Great. Ivan was Terrible but seemed they had a love for him. Nicholas II, meh.

What do you think DYB?

@13: I recall one writer saying he saw some of the oppo research the Repubs had on Bernie and it was many, many, many binders of stuff. The Republicans would have ripped hm apart.

Russians don’t want Democracy. They want Putin.

pushed us into the groping arms of Pussygrabber and shirtless PootiePoot.

Well talk about nice turns of phrases. LOL

I got started reading some Russian history with the book Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert Massie. Wonderful book.

Massie got interested in Nicholas because he himself had a son with hemophilia.

@20> I think it was Kurt Eichenwald at Newsweek who reported on the Sanders opposition research.

@24: Thanks for that DYB. That’s the bad thing about reading so much of this stuff; you (or at least I) forget where you read what articles. 🙄

@24, 25, yes I recall reading some of Eichenwald’s tweets and he mentioned that in several.

I often check his Twitter feed online as one of my news sources.

@26: Here’s the article where he made that statement:

Here are a few tastes of what was in store for Sanders, straight out of the Republican playbook: He thinks rape is A-OK. In 1972, when he was 31, Sanders wrote a fictitious essay in which he described a woman enjoying being raped by three men. Yes, there is an explanation for it—a long, complicated one, just like the one that would make clear why the Clinton emails story was nonsense. And we all know how well that worked out.

Then there’s the fact that Sanders was on unemployment until his mid-30s, and that he stole electricity from a neighbor after failing to pay his bills, and that he co-sponsored a bill to ship Vermont’s nuclear waste to a poor Hispanic community in Texas, where it could be dumped. You can just see the words “environmental racist” on Republican billboards. And if you can’t, I already did. They were in the Republican opposition research book as a proposal on how to frame the nuclear waste issue.

It would not have been pretty.

Oh! I did make my call to the D.o.J. comment line. I hope it was overwhelmed.

Alas, I used those two of those examples myself back in February? March? at my local Dem caucus. WA state is pretty blue, but we are cursed with the abominable caucus system. This year I gritted my teeth, brushed up on my oppo research, and went again, thinking it may not be as bad as in ’08 with the Obots. No such luck — it was worse this year with the Bernie bullies, including some women (in T-shirts saying “Hot Chicks for Bernie”, which gives you a clue).

They didn’t believe the nuclear waste deal and hadn’t heard of it before. The fact that Sanders had voted with the Rs on (lack of) gun regs didn’t bother them, and they didn’t believe he voted for the reg with the prohibition against research by the CDC into gun violence — “no, that must be for nuclear weapons or bombs instead.” When at the end of the “discussion,” I exasperatedly said that Hillary was working on children’s issues, healthcare, and against unfair rental practices back when Bernie was writing rape fantasies, the woman who was the foremost Bernie proponent said “Well, I have rape fantasies.” Fortunately, right then was the bell to get into our separate precinct groups and she wasn’t in mine — don’t know what I would have said to her. I left that caucus feeling alternately numb and psychologically battered. Now I suspect more than a few were ratfkers.

@28, good!

@29: Oh my, that must have brought back some bad memories.

There is no better example than North Carolina of the “Banana Republic”ans. The Repub members of the legislature have called themselves into a fourth special session to try and undue as much of the election as they can. They have no respect for the voters. It is all about the holding and securing of power. It is shameful.

@29, oh my — what a horrible experience Luna! I can’t imagine what that must have been like. All I can think is that you have some pretty good karma coming your way for going through that.

I swear I am not surprised by this in the least. Trump supporters now threatening “political reprisals” against Republican electors if they try to vote against Trump in the E.C.

@29 Bernie and he bros are a blight. Someday when I get to heaven I’m going to ask why Alan Thicke has to go at age 69 while Bernie, McConnel, tinyhands, Puti & their ilk are allowed to exist past their expiration dates.

@34, again with the Dem and Rep electors supporting a moderate rep not on the ballot over Hillary. Didn’t Kasich say no already?

For the electors, unless the ones that break for HRC – it’s a wasted protest vote.

Also, the complete madness happening in Aleppo… Just wow… These are the things Putin does.

“The trouble with all this Russian gamesmanship, Pavlovsky said, is that it is making enemies among people with long memories. And that is the paradox at the heart of the Putin worldview. Russia’s leaders may enjoy watching the West chase its tail looking for clues of Kremlin meddling, but Moscow does not want to shoulder the blame.

“The fact that there are people who are convinced that Russia acted on behalf of Donald Trump is frightening,” one senior Russian official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press, said Tuesday. “In the long run it could be very dangerous for people to think that Russia may interfere with other people’s elections.”

But in the meantime, Putin’s domestic approval ratings are up to 81% (and I don’t think that’s a fake number.) And he’s more popular with a certain segment of the American population than ever before.

@31, 33, 35, thanks. It was pretty surreal. Some friends had similar encounters. There are too many tech brogressives in the area. Given their tactics, they’d fit right in with the Rs in NC changing the rules and with Trump’s bully-boys’ “political reprisals.”

Yes, definitely about power and not about the American people.

Interesting — and troublesome — switch in attitude quite recently:

@41> We’re through the looking glass here people!

@37, completely agree. I don’t know why those actors put up that video asking the electors to vote for anyone but Trump but it doesn’t have to be Hillary. So then the knuckle draggers in the House get to pick the prez, and they’ll probably pick someone like Ryan. Yeah, lets have a president that no one voted for…just install the rethug of our choice. They are already working on getting rid of “entitlements” (that word really pisses me off). We need to get rid of that fucking electoral college. I would donate and work for that and also will donate to any dem that challenges that bastard Bernie. The brute fact is that majority of voters are getting screwed. I am so angry and depressed at what has happened, I can hardly think about it. I took a second job to take my mind off it. I’m utterly exhausted, and my clothes are hanging on me like a gunny sack (I don’t know what a gunny sack is, or how to spell it!).

Anyway, sorry, but you can expect insane ramblings from me til the end of the year!

Luna, I sooo hope Washington gets rid of its stupid caucuses. What a bloody waste of money. Thank you again though, for enduring that.

@45: Hilarious, DYB. I would love to see Trump’s face when he sees this or that Time cover. I hope the ridicule is non-stop.

I was watching Joy Reid last night. It appears Ivanka is going to be our First Lady. Does anyone else find that creepy not to mention insulting to his wife? So it looks like Ivanka is going to be helping her Dad with the government, helping with her Dad’s business as well as conducting her own, AND subbing for her step mom. That child care proposal of hers when enacted should come in mighty handy….

@47> She probably really wants that childcare passed so she can bill the government for it.

@45, omg!

@49, I retweeted that.

@41: A comment from that tweet.

@43 annie said: Anyway, sorry, but you can expect insane ramblings from me til the end of the year!

Ramble away! 🙂

@36 & 37: I get what y’all are saying. However to threaten “political reprisals” if an elector doesn’t vote for Trump is pretty over the top.

@53> Yes, absolutely. They are allowed to vote as they please, it’s literally in the rules. So…

@43> Totally, speak your mind here!

Cats, I find Ivanka extremely creepy. And her numbskull brothers. And Melania. I’ll give the kid a pass. How enormously hypocritical of the “family values” rethugs to embrace these creeps as their First Family.

@53, yes Fredster, it is definitely over the top but it is exactly who he is, you do what he says or he crushes you. He makes this point clearly and incessantly and always gets away with it. This is the new normal. Any Repubs or Dems pushing back on that statement? Do any of his voters give a flying f***? They probably even admire him for it. He’s a Dalek. Dr. Who must be regenerating….

Yep, you knew those sanctions were gonna go away.

Hope this will resize appropriately for the space.

@58> That’s not surprising, but yet another terrifying thing. Putin will invade more than Crimea.

@60 That is terrifying.

@60 & 61: I didn’t even bother to play the clip. I’ve heard Kingston’s hick voice before.

He’s the one who suggested that poor kids should “do chores” or sweep the floor in payment for getting their reduced or free lunch.

The jury found Dylan Roof guilty on all charges in the Charleston murders.

@63> Well at least that’s something!

@64: True dat, because with the trial being in South Carolina anything was possible.

@66: Sigh. And there will probably be more incidents like this throughout the next 4 years.

This is accurate and I hadn’t even thought of this. There are two words for “truth” in Russian. One more important than the other.

@69 Now that is scary

@69: See the linked article ref’d in your link:

You can only read part of it because it’s premium content. However Estonia is part of NATO.

As Prolix and I were discussing in emails, one of the first things Putin may try after tRump gets in is to try an assault on one of the Baltic States to see if the U.S./NATO respond.

Obama will be holding a press conference tomorrow about retaliations against Russia for the election. Supposedly he’s already spoken to Pooty-poop on the subject. This will be interesting.

Also, here’s a cartoon for you:

@72: As you said, this should be interesting.

Here’s some good news: The Women’s March on Washington finally got a permit.

@71 & 69, This was from a few days back:

@72, That announcement should include the arrest of the Usurper-Elect for treason. Oh, but that would be seen as partisan. /s

@75: Will have to keep fingers crossed that there is one Republican Senator on the Foreign Relations committee that has some balz. All it takes is that one “no” vote from any one of them.

@43, I understand your ramblings!

@74, good news!

Hmmmm. Well, his meds definitely need adjusting now.

@80: But I thought he had switched to nasal “meds”?

@81, yes, and the new “med” has provided poor control. Frankly, in my professional opinion, he needs in-patient treatment, stat.

Involuntary commitment, based on risk of (further) danger to others.

A portion of Obama’s comments to NPR on the hacking: (some bolding mine)

“I think there is no doubt that when any foreign government tries to impact the integrity of our elections … we need to take action and we will,” he said according to excerpts of the Thursday interview released by NPR.

“At a time and a place of our own choosing. Some of it may be … explicit and publicized; some of it may not be. … Mr. Putin is well aware of my feelings about this, because I spoke to him directly about it,” Obama said.

This is scary stuff. Sweden has moved Coastal based RBS-15 cruise missile batteries to Gotland for the first time since the Cold War. Gotland is the large island in the Baltic Sea. This was, in part, in response to the Russians moving nuclear missiles to Kaliningrad last month.

Baltic Sea

Here’s an article about some of this.

For a break from the looming apocalypse:

Olympic National Park
December 13 at 4:52pm ·

I went looking for spawning salmon and found a fishing bobcat. Standing on the bridge watching the fish struggle upstream, I just happened to catch this Hoh inhabitant catching breakfast. You never know what you might come across even on a quiet snowy morning. Ranger Lee.

I don’t know how to post the video here, so you’ll have to click the link. Well worth a view.

Ah! It worked!

@85: Wow that bobcat was fast!

@86: I wasn’t sure the facebook video would embed but that’s good to know for future uses.

@88, a serendipitously good result!

@84, scary.

Speaking of Gotland, a bit of trivia is that Gotland sheep provided the strong and lustrous grey wool which was made into the elvencloaks work in Jackson’s LOTR films. 🙂

“worn” not “work” argh. My brain needs some sleep, without nightmares.

@82: Oh I missed that comment.

Here’s another thought: tRump seems to love him some KFC. There have been a couple of photos of him eating KFC on the 757. Coincidentally he’s also taking a statin. We should send him buckets and buckets of the Colonel’s finest product. 😝

Loved the bobcat vid, thanks Luna! We had a bobcat prowling our hill one summer, years ago, and he jumped over our 6′ fence trying to catch a feral cat that I would feed. It was 6 in the morning, hubs & I looked out our window, the bobcat looked us in the face and snarled at us, hubs shouted at it to get the hell out and it leaped over the fence like a gazelle. I’ll never forget that.

@90, ahh, that’s interesting!

@92, haha! I would chip in for that! Lets get him extra greasy! Oops, I meant extra crispy!

@93: We can send him a bucket of both original recipe and the extra crispy. And gravy…lots of gravy.

Randy Rainbow interviews Trump – Part the Third. I have no idea where Parts the First or Second are.

Trump is up early on Twitter this morning. Does anyone know if his Rape case hearing is being heard today?

For anyone who says HRC talked more about identity politics than jobs – a chart that proves otherwise:

Krugman has no time for idiots:

contrask@96: Randy gives us some entertainment at least and he cuts right to the chase; no b.s. with him. LOL

@97: Did they settle that one? Honestly, he’s had more suits against him and I can’t keep track.

@99: I saw that early this a.m. It’s devastating, in my opinion. And Comey looks like a snarling dog there in that pic.

LOL, the FBI is now agreeing with the CIA that Russia was helping Trump. I can’t!

@104: And really who gives a shit what the F.B.I. does or thinks now. They are a damaged organization and have no credibility.

Don’t know how much credibility to give this but here it is.

So did Obama say anything during his much-touted press conference? I didn’t see it. But it sounds like all he did was tell Putin: “Now you stop it!” And that was it.

@109: They have been a right wing group for some time.

They pulled some nonsense stuff on Kerry back in the 2004 election.

Prolix, Rachel just reported that the Chinese stole a commercially available, unarmed Navy drone sub, live fire tested their aircraft carrier and placed antiaircraft guns on man made islands in the South China Sea. Is it starting already?????

@111: Shoot Cats3 I missed that. I’ll have to try to catch it on the replay.

Rude Pundit has a good piece up over at his site.

In a twist right out of Shakespeare, President Obama’s fatal flaw is the very thing that launched him into the presidency in the first place: his belief in the basic decency of people. It has failed him time and again, yet so often when dealing with his political opposition, he has treated them with respect and dignity that they did not deserve and that they refused him. It failed him when he tried to get Mitch McConnell to release a joint statement on the hack before the election. McConnell said he wouldn’t do it and, if the Democrats did, he would just call it political games and discredit it. So, being decent, Obama backed down. Everyone in that situation should be ashamed.

@113: I liked his last comment in the piece also:

One last thing for President Obama: Fire the fuck out of James Comey. Shit, arrest that motherfucker.

@115: I’m not going to put Obama on any pedestal. When McTurtle said he would scream politics if the W.H.. released the info about the hacks, Obama should have replied “Go ahead and I’ll make sure that the people know you put party before country”.

@113, Fredster, please check the rude pundit link. It took me to the Washington post article on Kerry.

@114, BOO-YAH!!!!!

@116, if Obama could only channel you….

@117: Thanks Cats3 for letting me know that. 🙂
It’s fixed now.

@118: Well hell he should have done something! ! I mean, he’s practically walking out the door so he could have done or said just about anything he wanted.

In case you missed it, the review of the Trump Grill(e) is ingenuous in the frontiers of describing rancid food. One of the best is describing the center of a frozen cake, that wasn’t supposed to be frozen, as tasting like Tums. Another sampling:

And indeed, it was slop: as soon as I got home, I brushed my teeth twice and curled up in bed until the nausea passed.

Yeah I agree. Obama really dropped the ball on releasing that info. He didn’t want to politicize the info? Is he nuts??? How is that info not political! After all this time, he still has no idea what awful people he’s dealing with in the Republican party. How many times do they have to wipe his nose in sh*t before he smells it? Ugh. Thanks Obama!

@111, Cats, my guess, and I am only qualified to guess, is this: The Chinese are, if nothing else, deliberate. Knowing that Obama would be in charge of any response, they know him to be calm and also deliberate. Their signal to us is sent, no chance of escalation by Obama, and perhaps Trump will get the idea. All of their interests would have then been served without any chance of things getting out of hand.

I’m going to write about this Monday, but Trump’s response will always be over the top and exaggerated. It’s just who he is and how he’s wired. Think of the opposite of Obama. Then put that on steroids. Then drive about 100 miles. From there, with a good set of binoculars, you might see what Trump’s responses might look like.

Here is an article that discusses the relationship between us and Jina, I mean China.

@121: And he, tRump, was very unhappy with that review too. Had to send out a nasty tweet about it. As he would say “Sad”.

@ everyone’s comments on Obama, too damn true. FF’sS, We Told You So! He was Not Ready. Still isn’t. He could at least use the Presidential bully pulpit. Instead of hinting to the electors, he could damn well say: You cannot, cannot, cannot vote for someone who will qualify for impeachment the moment he takes office. (Emoluments clause).

The very fact that the Russians fked our election over to make the Orange Usurper to win makes him unqualified.

@111, saw that, somewhere amongst all the political blogs, tweets, and articles today …. Not good. At least the uncontrolled ADHD/bipolar Orange Usurper isn’t in office yet.

@126: Luna Obama could have gone public with the Repubs responses and they would have howled but they couldn’t have done a thing.

The thread is getting too long and I’m going to call it a night. I’ll have a new post for Saturday.

@125, that’s a shame, but if they want to be really informed, they could find this stuff on the internet.
