Activist Monday: Dear Republicans, Please Keep Talking

Posted on: May 18, 2015

Good Monday, all! The Republicans likely to run for President were in rare form this weekend. The American election cycle is clearly too long for them; it allows their limited brainpower and unlimited egos multiple opportunities to open mouths, insert feet.

Witness what happens when unpopular union-busting Governor Scott Walker attempts to make an argument for why Americans should elect him President of the United States.

After noting that Walker had recently visited Israel, a trip partially paid for by billionaire Sheldon Adelson, Schieffer wondered what made the Wisconsin governor qualified to lead the county’s foreign policy.

“As a governor, I’ve been, just recently in Germany, in Spain and France,” Walker explained. “Earlier in the year, it was the United Kingdom on trade related missions. A few years back in China and Japan. So, that’s probably the most of any governor of either party has is that experience in terms of trade relations.”

Well, uh….I do appreciate the weasel words about “governors” of either Party, but…does Scott Walker really think that people are going to forget Hillary Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State, and be impressed by his measly six trips on “trade-related missions,” whatever those were? (Another notable set of weasel-words, Scottie boy).

But Walker’s pathetic posing wasn’t nearly as embarrassing as Marco Rubio’s evasions on the topic of the invasion of Iraq. Even Der Jebinator, after a rough week on the trail, has stated that he wouldn’t have invaded Iraq if he knew that Saddam Hussein had no WMD. Apparently, the word is out: it is now okay for Republicans to admit that Bush made a mistake…but Rubio doesn’t appear to have gotten the memo from the RNC.

“The world is a better place because Saddam Hussein is not there,” the Florida Republican argued. “But I don’t understand the question you’re asking… A president cannot make a decision knowing what someone might know in the future.”

“That’s what I’m asking you,” Wallace tried again. “Was it a mistake.”

According to Rubio, President George W. Bush “wasn’t dealing with a Nobel Peace Prize winner, he was dealing with Saddam Hussein. And he made the right decision based on the information he had at that time.”

“We’ve learned subsequently that information was wrong,” Rubio added. “My answer was, well, at the time, if it had been apparent that the intelligence was wrong, I don’t think George Bush would have moved forward on the invasion.”

But what viewers of Fox News Sunday never learned was the answer to Wallace’s question: Does Rubio think the invasion of Iraq a “mistake”?

True – but they did learn his opinion of what George Bush would have done (which actually, I disagree with – I am pretty sure Bush knew all along that Hussein had no WMD…but I digress). So, as long as we assume that Rubio identifies with George Bush’s foreign policy, then…oooopsie!

Ah, yes, keep talking, boys, just keep talking. Who knows what other nuggets of wisdom will drop from the mouths of these morons as Memorial Day approaches?

Perhaps it will sound a little something like this!

This is an open thread.

Marco must have clean forgotten that Obama is (yes, improbably) a Nobel laureate?

In order to “save the Party”, I predict that Mitt will eventually grab control of the wheel in the GOP Clown Car and strap his primary opponents to the roof. Then he will lose to Hillary in the general election.

The End.

@2: That’s Laura Ingraham’s plan. Oh, except for the “lose to Hillary” part.

OMG, Laura Ingraham is also joining the fun?

I guess she’s in need of a ratings boost. 😃

Beats, I agree. Mitt actually won all the traditional Republican voters in 2012. Problem for him was, there weren’t enough of them…and there will be even fewer on 2016, as many will be siphoned off bt Hillary. Nonetheless, he is a better choice than any of the other clowns.

I just hope The Glove doesn’t try to put Hillary in a binder!!!111!!!

@4: With all the other women?

@5 – Exactly, chat!

I just don’t see any of these men or women as serious Preznitial contenders. I think the days when an Obama (no experience) or a Bush (no brain) can be elected are over. All of the Republicans seem to either be brainless, or inexperienced.

Well lil booby has announced he’s created an “exploratory committee” to “help him decide” whether to run for the nomination or not.

Also, Huckleberry J Butchmeup announced he’s going to announce on June 1st. I liked what one of the nola commenters said:

It sure will scare ISIS when they hear a US president who sounds like Scarlett O’Hara when he speaks.

This is the only thing Lindsey needs to keep in mind for himself:

No, Lindsey. This is America. We’re not going to crown a Queen here.

Gagal@8: Hahahahahaaaa!!

@7: The announcement of Lady Lindsey’s announcement calls for some classic ABBA:

Beata@10: Get the fainting couches ready!!

Lady Lindsey wishes his bitchy resting face looked that good!! (So do I!)

You know what all these Repubs need? Someone whispering is their collective ears, saying “Remember, Caesar, thou art mortal.” 😅

MB@12: Hey, don’t we all!

I’ve had that pic for awhile and I have hesitated to use it but when I saw that comment about Scarlett on nola.com I figured what the hell.

Good one about Caesar!

Here’s my bet, eighteen months from now we will awake from our sleep realizing this whole field of Repubs was nothing more than a nightmare and that Pam Ewing also dreamed. Both events signified a robust example of “jumping the shark.”

@12, the grumpy cat was an entirely pleasant looking feline until it accidentally saw Lady Lindsey.

Wow. Someone on Media Matters posted this 2006 video of Bill Clinton and Chris Wallace on FOX. This is part 2 of 3 about Bill’s “failure” to get bin Laden. Think about this every time Wallace talks about the Clintons. Now I’m going back to watch 1 and 2. Go Bill!

Looks like part 3 of 3 is actually 2. Don’t bother.

Prolix@14: That’s gonna be a helluva nightmare.

@16, ah, that’s why I love the Big Dawg! He made Wallace look like a little worm. I bought and read Richard Clarke’s book when it first came out, and it is very interesting. Makes Bush and his ilk look very bad indeed.

Great post, Prolix. The dog in the header is adorable. Walker and Rubio are such weasles, you pegged them perfectly. Whenever laker hears Rubio’s name or sees his face, he does this insane, loud laugh. Rubio isn’t impressing the young, I guess. As for Walker, I did six countries in one long trip myself, and had some fun adventures in a couple of them. His little visits as governor don’t make him a foreign policy expert.

i love the Scarlett O’Hara pic, Fredster! You guys are a hoot!

i love the Scarlett O’Hara pic, Fredster

I’ve got a few of those tucked away for special occasions. 😉

@21, heh, heh! I’ll bet you do! 😉

@20, oops, meant to say MB!

MB, huffpo’s headline is now a story similar to yours:

“Original Iraq War Skeptics Find The Rekindled Debate Maddening”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/18/iraq-war-2016_n_7310006.html

“For those lawmakers who actually voted against the war, and those journalists who reported skeptically before the attack, this is misleading at best and self-serving at worst. Watching the revisionist story take hold 13 years after they opposed the invasion is reviving the frustration and marginalization they felt back then.”

annie@23: Maddow talked about this revisionist thing tonight. I may try to watch the replay of it in a little bit.

Oh Lordy, Rude Pundit has some thoughts on Scarlett uh Lindsey Graham running for Prez.

Hey Annie, no worries. I am flattered to be confused with Prolix! 😊

I am with Huffpo on this one. Some of us knew the war was wrong 13 years ago…

Welp, a committee in the La. House exercised some common sense and sent the La version of the “hate the gays” bill back to the calendar which basically killed it.

BUT, lil booby in an effort to remain relevant in the Prez race (at least in his own mind) has decided he will issue an Executive Order essentially doing the same thing as the House bill. So much for the threats of IBM, Dow Chemical, and the rest of the corporate world. LOUISIANA: THIRD WORLD AND PROUD OF IT!

@27: B-b-but aren’t Executive Orders now thought to be a bad thing?

Wow. So Beyonce has publicly endorsed plus raised 1M for Hillary. Maybe that will get the Millenials to the polls.

Oh Bobby Jindal…is there no end to your pathetic attempts to court the right wing whackos?! Give it up dude!!

Chat – that is incredible news. I’m very happy that Beyoncé is putting her gazillions to good use! 😊

Katy Perry has offered this as a campaign song:

chat@28: I believe that’s called flip-flopping. 😉

I saw that Beyonce’ and Jay Z just bought a house in the garden district in nola. It’s been listed several times and it’s a strange looking place but supposedly good acoustics.

The setup that’s on the roof of the house is what slays me. I just wonder how it’s supported for the weight of it. (Last pic)

Fredster, I have a NOLA question for you. I recently bought an old photograph for $1.00 at a garage sale. It’s of the “Patio Royal”, hand-colored and signed by Eugene Delcroix, a New Orleans photographer. The photograph looks like it’s from the 1920’s. Have you ever heard of the “Patio Royal”? Does it still exist?

@35: Hey, Google is my friend ( sometimes! ). I found out that the “Patio Royal” was built in 1795 as a private residence. At some point, it became part of Tulane but is now a restaurant called “Brennan’s”. It’s supposed to be haunted. Ooh, scary!

beata@35: Oh yeah, Brennans! That restaurant was held by one part of the family for years and then changed hands last year. It was a staple of nola fine dining.

http://www.brennansneworleans.com/

Does the patio look anything like this? (set up for a wedding)

http://www.brennansneworleans.com/gallery/a/3/

or maybe this?

Brennan’s Banana Foster! Yum!

@37: Thanks for the info! My photo is of an interior iron staircase with a tile floor and an arched iron gate to the side that opens out to a garden or patio. Maybe that arched window on the right of your photo was once an iron gate? My photo is dark and medieval-looking. A little bit eerie. Definitely not taken recently. I’m guessing it’s from the 1920’s or 30’s. I love it! I’m going to put it in an old frame that I inherited from my grandmother.

@38: Now I’m hungry! Have you been to Brennan’s, Chat?

Oh boy, those menus look good. I’ll have a bit of everything, please!

Oh, yes. And to ANtoine’s, Commander’s Palace, the Court of the Two Sisters, and Cafe du Monde. (I had a sorority sister from NOLA, plus several trips and a number of conventions.). But for my money, the best place to eat in NOLA is Dookey Chase now that Petunia’s has closed up.

Beata@39: It sounds like that picture was of the property before it became the restaurant. And that could be that the case with that arched window.

I’ve been to Brennans and Commanders, but not to Antoines or the Sisters.

But chat, you forgot the Pontchartrain, the Caribbean Room and their mile high pie.

I did indeed. The Sister’s Sunday Jazz Brunch is great.

@44: Oh, that looks like it’s to die for and you’ll go happily, I’m sure.

Beata, oh Lordy but it was good! The Pontchartrain has new owners who are hoping to bring it back including the Caribbean Room and the Bayou Bar.

Is it me, or is that mile high pie somewhat…suggestive?

@49: It’s you, MB. The rest of us are total innocents.

Looks like the gofundme guy with the failing eye sight has had a change of heart now that a bunch of liberals donated to him. He now blames both sides and SCOTUS.

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2015/05/19/3660701/luis-lang-obamacare/

madamab asked,
“trade-related missions,” whatever those were?

Going to the mall.

I got this link from SDs. A week or so ago I was talking here about the Vagina Voters article from the dudebro. This is about that and the comments are hilarious.

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/05/whiny-libertarian-dude-bros-are-terrified-of-vagina-voters-heres-why/comments/#disqus

That mile-high-pie looks like Baked Alaska to me. I always wanted to eat at Brennan’s and Antoine’s, but haven’t made it to NOLA yet. My parents and oldest sis have eaten there, more than once. i remember my Dad brought home a giant menu from Brennan’s back in the 70s. My parents loved good food. (Fortunately, they loved to walk and exercise also)

Beata, your photo looks wonderful. Hubbies advises: don’t cut it or glue it when you frame it, so it doesn’t lose its value.

I think its great that Beyonce and Katie are supporting Hillary.

From GAgals link about the gofundme dude:

“In an interview with ThinkProgress, Lang joked that he might be the most hated Republican in the country right now. But he also said that, thanks in part to a flood of media attention that led him to learn more about health care policy, he doesn’t identify with the GOP anymore.

“Now that I’m looking at what each party represents, my wife and I are both saying — hey, we’re not Republicans!” Lang said. He added that, though he’s not a political person by nature and has never voted solely along party lines, he wants to rip up his voter registration card on national television so Americans will have proof that he’s making the switch.”

That is quite a switch. The libs that donated to him really got to him. He also said he’s mad at the 5 Horsemen for ruling that the states could choose whether or not to implement the medicare expansion of the ACA, and he thinks it should have been mandatory, which I agree with.

@52 LOL!

Beata@43: Oops I missed your comment. Your picture looks, with the arch looks very similar to the one I added but looking from the inside. The arch is just very similar looking.

annie@56: Those deathbed conversions do wonders, don’t they? 😉

From the TP article about the fundme guy:

Like many Americans, Lang struggled to navigate the website last year and was frustrated by long wait times and technological glitches

Which is why just about every state I can think of had “navigators” to assist people. But, you had to go visit them to get their assistance.

Watching the repay of Maddow and she whomped on lil booby pretty good!

I really like her (Maddow). A brilliant and fearless woman.

LA Times pokes holes in article about Seattle businesses closing due to increased min. wages:

http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-83073216/

annie@62: Oh definitely on Rachel.

I’ll check the la times piece in a bit.

@54: Thanks, Annie. No, I won’t cut or glue the photograph. It already has a mat and that fits perfectly into the antique frame I inherited from my grandmother.

Sounds great!
