Lazy Weekend Music: High Times and Weed Whackers

Posted on: February 27, 2015

Happy weekend, Widdershins.  It’s time to extract what’s left of our psyche from the primordial goo of the previous week, and chill out.  This weekend, we’ll take chill to a whole new level.

As you may have heard, the District of Columbia has voted to legalize marijuana.  The House of Representatives (basically Jason Chaffitz) begs to differ.  Indeed, Congress does have oversight of the District, but I am personally rather amused that virtually all resistance to D.C.”s plan comes from the far-right wing of the Republican Party.

The Republican Party made its bones on the strenuous assertion of “Washington interference”.  Yessir, there should be more rights given to the individual, and laws should be written to lessen their impact upon ordinary citizens, leaving decisions to be made more so at the local and state levels.  Absolutely, except for the really important stuff, such as women’s health care and marijuana.  Those particular burning issues require scrupulous oversight.  Rep. Chaffitz advised residents of the District that they should move if they were bothered by this.

At any rate, D.C. passed the law, and they plan to go full speed ahead ignoring Congress.  This should be wildly entertaining, and I propose that we give them a playlist of pot-appropriate music.  Some explicitly refer to marijuana, and many are more nuanced.  Anything relevant will be welcomed, as usual.  Roll on, D.C.

This is an otherwise open thread.

Great story, chat. Go DC!

Did you guys notice that the Bill OReilly scandal keeps growing and growing. Love it…karma!

Guys, I am going on vacation for the next 9 days, so don’t worry when you don’t hear from me. I doubt if I’ll have internet access, and am not taking my laptop. Anyway, take care, and I’ll be back around the 9th.

Have a great vacay annie! It goes without saying that we’ll miss ya!!

Ooh, more great tunes. I’ll you too, Fredster! {{Hugs}}

@8: I loved the Cab Calloway piece but man! what a tempo!! I’d have been worn out halfway through that piece. LOL!!

Same time next week? The House finally squeaked out a vote to fund DHS for a week.

@10: Wonder who they’ll want to blame for the failure of the vote the first time around?

Need you ask? The damn Democrats, of course, because they do not love America.

@12: Hahahahaaaa! Of course!!

Of course I know the answer to this, but I think it needs to be thrown out there — if, when asked about national security, Nancy Pelosi had blown little kisses at a reporter, don’t you think Fox News would have imploded upon itself. Just for the benefit of knowing, I repeatedly turned on Fox last night — not a whimper, not a word, about the Republicans being unable to pass their own bill. And not so much as a peep about Boehner blowing kisses — go figure.

@14: I loved this headline from the A.P.:

GOP leaders in House, Senate struggling to demonstrate control over Congress

@15: The dog has finally caught the car.

Just as an aside, lil booby jindal came in 12th in the straw poll at CPAC. Keep diggin’ booby…there has to be a pony in there somewhere! 😆

@chat: Just saw a clip about all the rain and street flooding y’all had down there. What a mess!

Socal, enjoy your vacation! Chat, this story is great. Like same-sex marriage, I think this is going to be a trend that will spread across the country. Eventually the federal government will have to give in.

Fredster….more snow here again. We just can’t get a break.

Thanks. I am eternally amazed that the Repubs want to legislate personal decisions.

@mb: Ack!

And we have a chance for an “icy” event on Thurs. Of course the wx guys say a lot can change with the models between now and then. Sorta like our “snowpocalypse” that was forecast and here we got maybe 1/2 – 1 ” of snow but 30 miles further up I-65 they got 10-11 inches of snow. Go figure!

Hey Widdershins, if you have a chance, skip over to Uppity’s place. She has an update on her health issues.

@22: I hope that they’ll figure this out soon.

Here’s one of the reasons I get so pissed off at Politico.

Tom Aswell of Louisiana Voice threw out a few interesting new terms coined from the WaPo “annual Mensa Invitational in which readers are invited to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting or changing one letter to supply a new word and definition.”. Here a few of the better ones.

Ignoranuses: candidates who are both stupid and a–holes

Bozone (n.)—the substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The Bozone layer showed no signs of breaking down at CPAC.

Dopeler Effect (n.)—The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly (see any Gov. Bobby speech).

Glibido (n.)—All talk and no action.

Those are wonderful.

Barbara Mikulsky to retire. This is a real loss.

@27: Yep, she was a good ‘un.
