The Widdershins

Archive for January 19th, 2014

Good Sunday, Widdershins.

In honor of this week’s MLK Day of Service holiday, I thought that we might consider some of the wonderful music that has come from protest movements of various kinds throughout the ages.  I also must wonder why there isn;t more being generated, especially when you consider that we have devolved to the point where all of the signs carried in the 1963 March on Washington hold true today.

I admit that my ethnicity, gender, age, and union affiliation give me quite a knowledge base of this genre, but there are many put there, and it shouldn’t be too difficult to find several to post.   When you listen to this music, please remember what those who came before managed to accomplish, and how they did so.

Otherwise, this is an open thread.

(1) Ohio – Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young

(2) A Change Is Gonna Come – Sam Cooke’

(3) Fortunate Son – Creedence Clearwater Revival

(4) Foggy Dew – Sinead O’Conor and The Chieftans

(5) I Am Woman – Helen Reddy

(6) Joe Hill – Joan Baez
