The Widdershins

Fredster is late today with a post mainly because he’s been just sort of rolled up into a fetal ball the last few days.  The only thing I can think of that may be responsible for it is that I got my flu shot Wednesday and started feeling bleh Thursday.  It’s as good an excuse as any I suppose.  We are going to be down into the 20s again tonigh – brrrr- so Fred will have a good excuse for curling up into that ball this evening.

If you don’t like your neighbors:  get a cannon

It seems that Brian Malta of Kiantone New York was having some type of unspecified problems with some of his neighbors.  His solution?  Take his reproduction civil war cannon and fire it at their houses.  Now thank goodness Brian was only firing it with wadding and a powder charge, but still…sheesh!

Malta was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of harassment and three counts of menacing. He was released from the county jail after posting $2,500 bail.

It couldn’t immediately be determined if Malta had a lawyer.

Let’s hope that he did have a lawyer.  And here’s a pic of his little toy:

Kanye West (who?) has an issue with Zappos

Apparently Mr. West is a clothes designer in addition to being a hip hop artist?  Beats me, I dunno, I don’t listen to his music.  The only thing I know about his is that he ruined Taylor Swift’s VMA award a couple of years ago.

It seems though that West has something against Zappos and the company’s owner (I’ve bought shoes from them, they’re good shoes!)

In a podcast with Bret Easton Ellis earlier today, Kanye West sounded off on the web retailer Zappos and its CEO Tony Hsieh. West complained that Hsieh had told West to focus on music, rather than his fashion pursuits, “meanwhile, he sells all this shit product to everybody, his whole thing is based off of selling shit product.” Presumably this is a reference to the poor quality of shoes found on Zappos, in contrast to the haute couture brands favored by West. “My focus is on humanity,” West clarified.

Zappos, having a strange sense of humor for a corporation, decided to advertise their great sh-t products here:

and they even have a video of said products which you can see here.    Oh my.

In keeping with the bugs in fruit theme from last week

If you’ve never been to an Aldi’s store, you should check them out.  They are sort of a discount grocery with a select list of what’s available depending, I guess, on what they could buy in mass quantities.  When you go there, if you want to use a cart, you put a quarter in the thing and to get your quarter back you bring the cart back to the location and get your quarter back.   So anyway…this woman was shopping at an Aldi’s in Milwaukee and found, quell surprise!, a black widow spider in the package of grapes she picked up!  😯

Yvonne Duckhorn of Milwaukee told the newspaper that she was shopping Thursday afternoon at the Aldi store at 12120 W. Burleigh St. with her 4-year-old daughter when she picked up a clear container of red grapes that was on sale.

She flipped the container over to check for mold and eyeballed the grapes to look for soft ones. Then she flipped the container right side up and noticed the top was popped open a little.

That’s when she spotted something moving inside.

“I saw the legs moving frantically,” Duckhorn recalled. “I’ve seen bugs on fruit before, and I thought, ‘That is a very big spider.’ Nothing I’d ever seen before.”

Duckhorn said she became especially concerned when she noticed red on the black spider. She looked around for an employee, and when she didn’t immediately find one, grabbed a clear plastic produce bag and dumped the container of grapes inside it. She didn’t want to leave the spider for someone else to find, she said.

Duckhorn tried to hand the bag of grapes to a cashier, but when she told the cashier there was a large spider in it, the cashier called another employee, who took the bag away.

Aldi said in its statement that it immediately pulled grapes from Milwaukee-area stores “out of an abundance of caution,” and that the company was implementing additional inspection procedures at all warehouses and stores. The company also reiterated its guarantee of a refund to any customer not 100% satisfied with a food product.  ( Hmmm…spiders in the grapes would be ≠ 100% satisfaction in my book!)

Black widow spiders, which build webs in grape vineyards to capture insects, have occasionally been found in supermarket grapes since the mid-1990s. That’s when growers came under pressure to cut back on insecticide use because of high levels of pesticide residue on grapes. Black widows that accidentally get picked with the grapes can slip past inspectors. ( I did not know this!)

A couple of Youtubes

What can we say about the mayor of Toronto?  He’s the gift that keeps on giving!  😆

I love my doxies, but y’all knew that already.

Chloe was never this excited about baths!

Okay, put your comments below.  LSU is getting ready to play the Aggies of Texas A&M and all I can say is that I have my fingers crossed!

Allons les Tigres!   pray

Psychosis can be fun.

@3: There were days (or daze) when working in Ops Control, wearing one of those headsets that I truly did think it would be helpful to be about half nuts…to match the callers.

Entertaining post Fredster, as always. Loved the cute doxies. and the zappos things was a hoot.

Congrats to you and Chat. Hubbie and laker were watching the Tigers (laker is home, mildly sick) and texted me the news. I think Trojans won also.

socal@5: I was trying to find the score on the USC game and was going to watch if it was on here locally. The Tigers defense players finally learned a key to victory: listen to your coach. Seriously, they said they listened to everything “Chief” told them in practice and voila, it worked! They basically had Manziel stuffed; he couldn’t do anything.

Loved the cute doxies

(sigh) Those long haired doxies are beginning to grow on me…big time.

I’m a scottie girl myself.
