THE FINAL DEBATE WAS LAST NIGHT

Posted on: October 23, 2012

So is this sh!t over with yet?  I mean, I have completely had it.  This has worked on my last nerve.  I’m up to here with it.  I’m trying to think of any other trite little phrases to add in here.

In my opinion there has been nothing to get excited about in this election.  It just seems to be a choice between:  a) the one we know and b) the one we don’t even want to know.  I suppose you could call it excitement when you see how bat-shit crazy Mitt is with his super-secret 5 point plan to do whatever it is it’s supposed to do.  Is that super-secret 5 point plan similar to his super-secret tax returns, i.e. nothing we should be concerned about? And then Eddie Munster Jr. chimes in with how hard it is to explain that darned math to all of us and so we should just not worry about any details until later.  The problem is little Eddie, we’ve already seen some of your handiwork in your budget plan you created and most of us don’t care for it one little bit.

So then there’s the other side, the one with the President.  If I don’t like Mitt, then I guess I have to like Barack, right?  Uh…no.  He’s done a number of things I don’t like such as the continuation and further eroding of our civil liberties, worsening the situation from what Dubya had done all in the name of protecting us from terror.

Then there’s the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare.  Now I think most of my fellow Widdershins know I was able to obtain health insurance through a part of the Affordable Care Act which created an insurance program for those folks like me who have pre-existing conditions that made it difficult to otherwise get health insurance.  Now, I’m about to find out how good this thing really is since my doctor wants me to have some sessions with Physical Therapy for my neck/arm problem and (good luck here!) they are going to try to get an okay for an M.R.I. of  my neck.  There is a deductible to meet and then an 80/20 share after that is met.  (Oops, I went off on a tangent there-sorry)  So this isn’t bad for me now, but, we coulda had a V8 uh, Medicare for All or at least single payer.  But, Obama caved um settled for less and we have what we have.  Now I know that working with Democrats who run the gamut from our most liberal friends to those of the Blue Dog persuasion is not an easy task and that’s when the Dems had a majority in the House and Senate.

There have been other issues that have made me not so thrilled with him but it becomes a choice of the devil I know versus the one I don’t know but I know what that other devil wants to do.  And, I still have not made up my mind completely that I will vote for Obama.  After all, I am registered in Louisiana and the state is now about as red as they come.  Looking over the ballot and candidates for President I was amazed at the choices I have.  On the Louisiana ballot for Presidential candidates I have a choice of:

  • Barack Obama,, Democrat
  • Jill Stein, Green Party
  • Gary Johnson, Libertarian
  • Mitt Romney, Republican
  • Virgil Goode, Constitution Party
  • Ross Anderson, Justice Party
  • Jack Fellure, Prohibition Party 😆
  • Jerry White, Socialist Equality Party
  • James Harris, Socialist Workers Party
  • Sheila Tittle, We the People Party
  • Peta Linday Socialism and Liberation

The Socialist Equality Party and the Socialist Workers Party intrigue me, but the Prohibition Party-not so much -just by the name.  I wonder:  Do the We The People Party…like to party?

Okay, I need to stop now since my arm is doing its little thing and it is time for some Aleve.  I have little notes all over my calendar:  Next Aleve: 2:30 pm, Next Tylenol 5:30 am Next tramadol 4:30.  I line through one dosage time and put the next one for 6 hours or 12 or what have you.

So how do you all feel?  Are you glad the debates are over?  WAS there a winner in these things in your opinion?  Did they make a difference in your choice?

Not so fast, Fredster!

I can predict that one day after the election the next cycle of “wannabes” will be lined up and ready to go for the next 4 years.

Rubio, Christie, etc., will be featured alone with speculation regarding Hillary’s chances in 2016 so whatever the outcome the next group is waiting in the wings to begin this never ending crapola all over again.

The media is unable to resist filling the void so hang on, it won’t be long before we are once again thrust into another long campaign season that starts from the moment the last one has finished.

All the polls show Indiana going for Romney this year but I think it will come down to who manages to get out the vote. We may yet be a swing state. So I voted early for Obama and the down-ticket Democrats. I know what’s at stake for people like my mother and me in this election – our lives. And that’s no bull. We don’t have the luxury of waiting out 4 to 8 years of a radical Romney-Ryan Tea-Party-backed administration and hoping for the best. People who do have that luxury – well, I say best of luck to you. You may find you are just a job lay-off or major illness away from being one of the unlucky ones. Then you’re on your own, my friend.

@2 – I agree that Indiana might just be a swing state. I don’t think that the polls are really all that accurate. It is one thing to gerrymander the Tea Party whackos into being re-elected – it’s quite another to try to gerrymander a national election, although I don’t put anything past the Republicans at this point.

At least that Voter ID law was stopped for now.

@3: Indiana has had a strict state-issued voter ID law since 2005. The Supreme Court upheld the law in 2008. It is still in place.

Beata said: People who do have that luxury – well, I say best of luck to you.

Beata, if I voted for Obama it would not make a bit of difference in La because Romney will still carry La and those electoral votes will go in his column.

Pat: Hopefully we get a respite for a while before all of the pundits start speculating full time.

Beata: I thought it was a foregone conclusioin that IN was going to Romney. Is it close in the polls there?

In the International Olympics of Contortion, the Mali judge gave Romney all 10s — first, for mentioning Mali twice in the first ten minutes of the debate and second, for Romney, with a straight-faced smirk being able to say, “I agree with Obama about everything, but he’s doing it wrong.”

Now, the one person for whom I feel sorry today — the housekeeper of John Bolton — I’m sure there was a mess to clean up after last night’s double backflipping repudiation of just about everything Romney has Tea Party spewed for the last six years. If there was a video camera available to record John Bolton, I’m sure it looked like a scene from the old movie “Scanners” where heads were exploding between every bite of popcorn — come to think of it, the heads were exploding just like popcorn without the benefit of butter.

On a serious note, what does it say about our politics when the two candidates for President revel in and brag about the number of people we can kill on the other side of the world with the toggle of a joystick? Sad, just deplorably sad.

@7: It ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings! Lots of early voting here and those votes are apparently favoring Obama, not Romney. The Senate race is very close.

Prolix, you mean this one? I was trying to find a gif that would explode but can’t right now

Yes Prolix! There is no measure that either of them would not take to enforce the U.S. will on the rest of the world, however Obama did come off as a bit more thoughtful and measured.
Scanners – I thought I was the only one who remembered that movie (shudder), but just checked youtube and there are a lot of vids of the exploding heads.

Beata@7: That would be interesting if IN did flip to Obama. I’ve read and seen on the tube that the early voting was going toward Obama and also something about how the early voters were skewing the polls in some ways.

When I was watching the debaste last night between parts of MNF, I was thinking back to the Dem primary debates where Obama would just sorta say “what Hillary said”. LOL!!

One thing that’s on the ballot for La is a state constitutional amendment which reads:

Do you support an amendment to prohibit monies in the Medicaid Trust Fund for the Elderly from being used or appropriated for other purposes when adjustments are made to eliminate a state deficit? (Adds Article VII, Section 10(F)(4)(g))

I’m putting a big, fat YES on that one. Anythiing that would keep lil Booby’s hands off of it!

@15: MB, Indiana was one of the first states to have a voter ID law. Yeah, we’re “progressive” that way.

@9 Beata, I hope your thoughts about the Senate race in IN are right — Mourdock would be a scary addition to the Tea Party/Rubio Kindergarten Caucus.

@10 and 11, yeppers, that’s “Scanners” all right — I’ve sat in laborious meetings with ninnies whose incessant yapping voices were their substitute for Cialis and often tried to pull a sneak “Scanners” attack upon them. To date, I’ve been unsuccessful, but hope springs eternal since they couldn’t have made a movie about it unless it was true.

since they couldn’t have made a movie about it unless it was true.

Yep, that’s right, just like they can’t put anything on the internet unless it’s true.

@19: Hey, I met that French model over the Internet and dated him, too! The two-timer!

@19 That commercial was exactly what I was thinking about when I wrote that — now that’s a great commercial.

chuck@20: Just can’t trust anyone these days, can you?

Prolix: It’s a great commercial, but will it be considered sexist, i.e. the dumb blonde? 😉

@22, Yes, you are right — I take back my “great commercial” endorsement.

@22 & 23 – i couldn’t help noticing that the dummy in the commercial was a blonde female. 😆 D*mn that feminist brain of mine, it just doesn’t turn off.

I was telling my friend’s daughter this weekend that when she is allowed to read “Twilight” (she is 11), she should keep in mind that Bella is not exactly a feminist role model. I also told her that when she starts dating, she will definitely have better choices than a vampire and a werewolf. 🙂

prolix@23 and mb@24: Yeah, but I have to say it’s still a funny commercial. I can’t help but laugh at it, so does that make me a sexist pig? 😉

@25: It does make you a sexist pig, Fredster, but we’re giving you a pass because you’re heavily medicated and not getting much sleep. 🙂

Beata@26: Thank you. I appreciate the pass. A momentary lapse, I assure you Beata. 😉

Beata!!!!! Y’all cannot let this asshole get elected! 😯

http://tinyurl.com/9cxowua

Oh my gawd, Fredster. I am speechless! What a whacko!

mb@29: In addition to a bummed up arm and shoulder, now I’ve probably got jaw damage or something because my jaw dropped to the edge of the desk!

@28: I’ve already voted straight Democratic and so have most of my friends. What more can I do? I’m not well enough to volunteer to defeat this cretin and I don’t have money to donate. I can only hope Richard Mourdock has dug his political grave with these insane statements.

I’m really scared about what is happening politically in my state. It’s always been conservative here but now it’s becoming so extreme. Mike Pence is sure to win the Governor’s race. He is just as crazy as Mourdock.

Beata@31: Oh Beata, it was just sort of an exclamatory thing with me. I know you have limits to what you can do. Maybe when cr@p like this goes nationally it will shut him down. 👿
