Can we finally stop pretending that Sarah Palin has something to offer the American public?

If nothing else, “Game Change”, both the book and movie, has exposed even more the utter lack of intelligence and self awareness this woman exhibits as she continues to grasp the hot spotlight she enjoyed as an unworthy choice for vice president in 2008.

As the McCain consultants, the press, and finally the public began to appreciate that Sarah Palin lacked the gravitas to assume that role, a feeling of “superiority” began to take shape in her own mind that she was the central figure in that race and has yet to let go.

Her limitations are evident yet she continues to insert herself into the dialogue by offering nothing more than a constant drumbeat against Barack Obama which delights her followers but offers nothing by way of substance, vision or innovation. Empty rhetoric offered up by an empty head.

Read for yourself the latest contribution cited on a recent appearance with Sean Hannity. Most of it is incomprehensible but worthwhile when judging how close this moron came to the red codes:

“He (President Obama) is bringing us back Sean, to days..uh..you can harken back to days before the Civil War! When unfortunately too many Americans mistakenly believed that not all men are created equal. And it was the Civil War that began the codification of the truth, that here in America yes we are equal and we all have EQUAL opportunities. Not based on the color of your skin. You have equal opportunity to work hard and to succeed, and to embrace the opportunities, God given opportunities, to develop resources and work extremely hard, and as I say, to succeed. Now it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, that took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War really had to start changing America, What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes, based on income, based on color of skin. Why are we allowing our country to move backwards, instead of moving forward with that understanding, that as our charters of liberty spell out for us, WE..ARE..ALL..CREATED..EQUALLY”.

What in hell is this woman talking about?  That the first black president of the US is seeking to return us to a dark time in history when men and women were sold into slavery? This is his objective?  Is she serious?  Delusional?  Insane?  Try to digest whatever the hell she is yammering about and try to find “meaning” behind the incoherency.   It’s impossible.

If nothing else her rise to prominence is an illustration of the celebration of sheer ignorance that has infected the political landscape we live with today.  Troubling enough that she was unequipped to begin to understand the complexities facing the world in 2008, she had yet to master the basics of American history that should serve as a foundation for any politician running as a candidate in any level of public service.   You would expect as much.

John McCain and his consultants failed the public with this questionable choice of a running mate.  Had they won she would have been just “one heartbeat away” from the presidency itself.  This is the road we find ourselves traveling when “celebrity” trumps qualifications.

There may be those who “sympathize” that Sarah Palin, plucked from obscurity, found herself in over her head.  That the scrutiny and pressure may have exposed her weaknesses and unqualifications unfairly. I would disagree.

She was aware of how grossly inadequate she was for this job but rather than walk away from the spotlight she continued on a course that suggested her intentions to inflict her ignorance once again on the electorate as a future nominee for POTUS.  That is unforgivable.

You can no more put “lipstick on a pig” than you can cram facts and knowledge into a head that is unable to process the information.  This is Sarah Palin in a nutshell.  A rank opportunist without a clue.

We managed to “dodge the bullet” in 2008 but there is no guarantee that it won’t happen again.

This is the legacy of John McCain and the operatives who almost made it happen.

Applauding this woman for her ignorance, offering her a forum to validate as much, and covering her every word as though it deserves attention is reason enough to understand why the “dumbing down of America” continues its backward slide.

We simply cannot afford to pretend otherwise.  Simple minded rhetoric combined with a total lack of fundamental knowledge has set a low enough bar in this day and age that almost anyone can be considered worthy of leadership.     Sarah Palin is the prime example of that acceptance.

The fact that she “came this close” supports the argument.
