Lazy Sunday Music: Stop, The Music

Posted on: February 17, 2013

Good Sunday, Widdershins.

So, here we are again, back in the Land of the Giant Filibuster.  As tribute to out latest Republican obstacle course, I propose that we address those songs that pay tribute to the word “stop:.

There are more of them that you think.  There are beaucoup tunes with the word “stop” in the title, and a blue million more with “stop” in the lyrics.  Any number of genre are included in the sounds of stop, so just dive right in here with me.

In other words, if you can;t stop them, join them in stopping.  There is an outside chance that using the word “stop” repetitively may finally get someone’s attention.   I know – but stop with the negativity.

This is an otherwise open thread.

(1) Stop in the Name of Love - The Supremes, 1965

(2) I Can’t Stop Loving You - Ray Charles, 1962

(3) Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow - Fleetwood Mac, 1977

(4) Who’ll Stop the Rain? - Creedence Clearwater Revival, 1970

(5) Don’t Stop - Gloria Estefan, 1998

Have a great day.

When I said that the topic was “stop”. I did not mean for y;all to stop commenting.

Either we are being boycotted OR Prolix’s posts have the candle that none of us can hold a whatever to as the old saying goes.

I checked the spam and nothing in there except the typical…spam.

I’m trying to find “stop” stuff.

I’m reaching here:

Hey chat, we did our best.

There does seem to be something going on in Rome………………..

Sorry, late to the party. So many things going on right now, none of them good.
Here’s one I liked back in 06. Not sure if they even still perform, but she’s got a very interesting voice.

And here’s one – not a song, but it does have Stop in it, and really who can resist Bob Newhart? As I spent an hour on long distance saying this to one of my best buddies today – not about claustrophia but her family issues, it rings true to me, and he did it much more quickly and effectively that I did.

Chuck!!! Gracias for the music post!! ;-)

And another one – this one from my youth. I’m sure you’ll all remember it. It’s still as applicable as it was back then, but people have forgotten or ignored history – recent or otherwise.

There was a musical Stop the World I Want To Get Off, but I don’t think this is from that show.

Awright Chuck @18!

And my last (I think). This is one from my early marriage years. I painted the interior of my townhouse to this and other tunes from Quebec artistes. Gino was a huge hit back in the 60′s/70′s. Today he’s a jazz man. BTW if anyone is interested Quebec has a flourishing artistic scene – not just music but international film, but their fan base is in Canada, Europe, Scandanavia and the Far East.

Anyone, my early crush (despite the hair, but he’s Italian Quebecois eh) Gino Vanelli.

Good one HT.

Where is our resident opera genius DYB? I’m sure he would find an aria or two with “stop” in them.

BTW, that should be “Anyhow” not anyone, and the hair is his version of the mullet – ugh.

Okay, my last one.

Chuck thinks standing still is close enough to a stop.

Okay this has nothing to do with the topic at hand. However, last night or early a.m. I was channel surfing and came across one of those paid infomercials about this product. I watched it and thought “Yes! It’s like painting your car or truck!!”

Chuck is wise, and Fredster is as usual hilarious.
Okay I lied. One more – I forgot about this until I checked my e-mail and found my spam filter overflowing.

Damn – wrong clip.

Sorry Fredster @3, but this is how it’s done:

Hey Sophie, right on! I still remember the night singing this song and We are the Champions at 2AM in the midst of ambassador’s row in Washington D.C. so Queen is obviously the best because not one person reported us to the police for noise violations. Of course we had too much to drink, we were relatively young, had previously gone out of our way to connect to the neighbours beforehand ….however I think it was Queen that eased our way. Freddie Mercury truly was universal.

P.S. I’m amazed that the friend (legate) that we were staying with was not recalled, and I”m still a bit embarrassed that we might have caused that to occur ruining his career. However it all turned out well, he went on to greater heights, no one complained and we had a great fun week of memory making.

Great tunes, all. Thanks for “stopping by”.

Sophie@32: Hey I was just searching on the “stop” thing and was grabbing them as fast as I could. My bad. :-(

NP Fredster. Been there, done that.
