Lazy Sunday Music: Nice Day For a Drive

Posted on: July 15, 2012

I’m in the Nashville area at a convention, and I’ll need some good driving songs for the trip back home.  It’s been quite awhile since we did this, and we definitely need a lift after five solid weeks of the grief process, so reach into the annals and give us some suggestions, as we’ll need 927 miles of automotive inspiration.  I’ve listed my favorites in chronologic order, but well need many more to go the distance.  The songs don’t necessarily have to be about cars, they just need a suitable beat.

(1) Little Deuce Coupe – The Beach Boys, 1963

(2) Born to be Wild – Steppenwolf, 1968

(3) Me and Bobby McGee – Janice Joplin, 1971

(4) Stuck In the Middle With You – Stealers Wheels, 1973

(5) Six Days On the Road – Sawyer Brown, 1993

This is an open thread.

Get back safely!

Us old guys still have what it takes.
Bachman Turner Overdrive – Roll on down the highway.

I like driving to this song:

here is one of my favorites by a handsome country singer Zack Brown…

Hers a Zack Brown for Madamab soon to be home from her Aruba Paradise…

Might as well go in style:

Chuck! How nice to see you again! :-)

Goin’ to surf city.

Kinda, sorta…

I like to dance and drive to this one:

I advise against this:

chuck: dancing whle driving is not a good thing to do. Safety, ya know.

@15: Chuck has to do what Chuck has to do, Fredster. That’s what Chuck is all about. Chuck realizes he has issues..that’s why Chuck speaks in the third person about himself. ;-)

Deal with it.

Hmmm…chuck seems to have an attitude. Perhaps some corrective action is called for.

Okay chuck. I’m glad you added that last bit to your comment. LOL!!

Hmmm, dancing while driving – and my family doesn’t understand why I won’t go on a highway anymore. I know I’m going to die but why hurry the inevitable.
For fun chat

My thoughts exactly!

See chuck…this is when you know you have issues..you start sounding like Jimmy and George Costanza. Just sayin’…

Siegfried’s Rhine Journey from “Gotterdammerung.”

The Ride of the Valkyries from “Die Walkure.”

Hey D!! Excellent choices. I knew you’d bring the opera links!

Wow, DYB, what an eclectic collection!

DYB- That makes me so wistful for Sophie’s wonderful Hillary video. It was so uplifting and optimistic- it makes me want to cry and scream at the same time.

Great listening DYB, thanks. Now that you’ve opened the Judy Garland pandora’s box:

Woody, from “The Asch Recordings” :

Excellent choices as usual, DYB. Chuck really enjoys them.

So Chuck, are you really Bob?

I’m glad ya’ll enjoyed my selections!
