MW: Action Wednesday!
Posted on: October 28, 2009
As usual, there are lots of things going on across the country if you feel inclined to call, fax or get your feet in the street! Check it all out!
Health Care Reform - Ur Doing It Rong!
Mobilizing For Health Care is sponsoring more country-wide sit-ins at insurance companies starting today, October 28th. Please check their site for dates and times – there’s bound to be one near you.
The Aggressive Progressives at Democrats.com won’t give any money to any of the Democrats in Congress or the Democratic National Organizations if they don’t get health care reform right. Do you agree? Then sign their petition and join their donor strike against the DINOs who won’t let real health care reform go through. (Wonder of wonders, they actually point the finger at President Obama too!)
LGBT Rights
Election Day is next week – and Equal Marriage in Maine is in jeopardy, with the bigoted Proposition 1 (like Proposition 8 in California) coming to a vote. If you’d like to help out by phone banking or donating, you can go here or here.
Restoring the Constitution
Join the ACLU in demanding that Congress re-examine and reform the Patriot Act, three key provisions of which expire on December 31, 2009.
Making Public Policy For Women – With Madame Secretary and Senator Barney “Dining Room Table” Frank
No Limits has its first Public Policy Conference next week, on November 6th. If you have bucks to spare, you can buy tickets here.
And Last but Certainly Not Least…
As always, check our Resources For Women Page for more about the ERA and other woman-supporting actions!
This is an open thread.

DYB -
On the Record with Greta Van Susteren at 1.9 million total viewers and 533,000 A25-54.
That’s a lot higher than Rachel Maddow, and yet I heard she was being cancelled? Am I mistaken there?
That seems nuts!
I am on a pundit-free diet since mid-2008, but I like how Greta highlights and supports women. She was one of the only ones to talk about sexism at all last year.
Holy crap!
A car bomb in the main city in Pakistan’s troubled northwest has killed at least 80 people and wounded some 100 others.
Witnesses said the afternoon explosion ripped through a crowded market in Peshawar Wednesday afternoon, killing mostly women. (MB: Of course.)
(snip)
The blast occurred a short time after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, for three days of talks with senior officials.
The story says no group has taken responsibility, but that Peshawar is a gateway into the Taliban-infested area between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Jon Stewart reciewed Cheney’s dithering speech last night. In it, the former veep said that despite Obama’s allegations, the Bush admin did indeed review the Afghanistan plan, in September of 2008. Like 7 years after you invade, you review it? Sheesh.

What kind of “ANIMAL” would do this sort of thing?
I’m sorry but this is what happens when religion is taken to it’s extreme!
….And….
When you have a bunch of “unwashed, sexually repressed, bad breath, unshaven, no fashion sense, angry men trying to burn off some of that Testosterone they are carrying around in their shriveled up nut sacks!
Sorry….had to go there!
LOL RD62! I love you!
You are right – I am sure it was the Taliban. The fact that mostly women were attacked and that it coincided with the visit of Madam Secretary – points right at their M.O.
Chatblu – Um, who cares if the Bushies reviewed it or not? The war in Afghanistan was a massive fail, and that’s squarely on their shoulders. It is their fault that the Taliban has re-surged in Afghanistan. That happened long before Obama was inaugurated.
Like I said, if I were Obama, I would have come into office, declared victory, and gotten the f*ck out. Why he chose to take ownership of that clusterf*ck, I have no clue!
Indeed. I was just wildly amused that Cheney got so indignant that he admitted that it took them seven years to get around to it.
Hee! Cheney accidentally told the truth!
First time for everything, I guess.

I’m deeply disappointed in Greta. She’s toeing the company line on everything from health care (it’s a bad idea) straight down the line. And if she has Stephen Moore from the WSJ or Newt on any more than she has now, I’m gonna hurl. The only thing I really watch on Fox anymore is Redeye which comes on at 2:00 a.m central time. Those folks are bizarre!
Very good article over at Suburban Guerrilla on health care.

I love Karen what’s her name the spokeswoman for the health insurance companies. When facing a question directly blow smoke up your questioner’s ass. Great way to do it.
Oh this is truly disgusting and the health ins. companies wonder why we want them out of business.
Ah, Fredster, I will bow to your Greta expertise! I’ve only seen bits and pieces of her show, and not recently.
@14:
Don’t you love it that no matter how much we donate, politicians say they can’t support the netroots agenda “because you’re not in my district”, yet are so very sympathetic to the millions of dollars poured into their states from giant industries like insurance? Looks like our bribes contributions just aren’t big enough.
See, that’s why we should all sign the Democrats.com petition I linked above! No more $$$ till they do what WE want!
I mean, I stopped my donations a long time ago. But it was for that exact reason – DINO policies and bad excuses.
MB: she was my last hope for Fox as far as opinion shows go. Now I still like to watch Shepard Smith (eye candy kindof) and Cavuto sometimes. I’ll flip to Hannity just to see how crazy the bastard is but that’s it.
I just can’t believe what happened to that woman and she works for the health insurance industry!!!
I wonder if her Scientology has something to do with it.
Chat: who her?
Chatblu – I saw a delicious story earlier about the Church of Scientology being convicted of fraud in France and fined 600,000 Euro (about $900,000).
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091027/ap_on_re_eu/eu_france_scientology
Gotta love the French!
Fredster: Sorry for the faulty pronoun reference. Her=Greta.
Hey all – Obama did something good today…he signed the Matthew Shepard Act into law.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/10/28/hate.crimes/
Caveat time: Signing the law was the very least a Democratic President should be expected to do. And most of the credit goes to Congress for passing it.
Still – some very good news for us all.
I’ll take almost anything in the good political news department at this point.
Exactly, chatblu. We need some!
Speaking of the “Church of Scientology”
There is a series of these expose, these people are wacko!
Here’s something I found on Uppity Woman’s site and wrote a little something on it on my site…..
This is what we have to look forward to with these Health Insurance Providers!
BASTARDS!
Sorry…it didn’t embed. lets me try again.
GRRRRRRR….here’s the link….LOL
http://us.cnn.com/video/?/video/bestoftv/2009/10/26/ac360.christina.turner.int.cnn
Scientology scary very Scary….personally they are a business in my view and should be taxed as one just as I believe most religions are today with their radio and tv stations bookstores coffee houses etc…
I wonder if they will start spying on me? LOL
Oh and they dont like gay people either they are big purveyors of repairitive therapy…funny since they dont like head shrinking?
I had a colleague who converted to Scientology and told my other colleague all about it. Honestly, I don’t think it’s any crazier than Mormonism. LOL
Funny…If they don’t like gay people, then why is Ton Cruise a member?
(OOps…did I say that out loud? ) LOL
OMG RD62 – I was thinking it too!!!!
LOLOLOLOL
Looks like the “public options” -whoops, “consumer option” will be a wateren down version of negitiated rates with private companies. Whoopee.
Did you see the story of Paul Haggis (director of “Crash”) quitting Scientology because they are homophobic? He wrote them a letter (which was leaked) resigning and citing their homophobia as the reason. The Church said that it was all just a big misunderstanding.
DYB – Paul Haggis was in Scientology?
Lord have mercy!
From what I’ve heard about that belief system, homophobia is the least of its problems. We are all infested with aliens from the planet Xenu, or something like that, and they cause all of our problems in life. But you too can be cleansed of your space demons for the low low price of…um…whatever’s in your bank account, and IRA, and 401(k), and mattress…
It seems like it’s nothing but a cult aimed at stealing money from gullible people.
Alas, the Yanks are getting spanked by the Phillies tonight. Can’t stay up any longer but there’s no way they’re going to catch up.
Night-night!
morning all….have a great day ck out the new post at lunch time Daylight times ends on all Hallows Eve….actually at 3 am on All Saints Day but who cares?

Some interesting ratings info about news networks and specific shows as compiled by the Cynopsis Newsletter.
